I really wanted to like Eastward.

It was very pretty, and initially intriguing. But in the end I found it to be one of the slowest and most boring games I have ever played. I had to force myself to get through it because it was such a slog.

I like the Totallee cases. They are super thin and you can get clear ones so you aren’t covering up the phone’s look.

I have a 12Pro as well, and, honestly, I think the cameras on this thing are kinda trash. I like the phone and it still works well, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t intrigued with the new phone.

As someone with a 4K OLED, it’s awesome. I always watch it.

The sound, however, could use some work in my opinion.

For anyone that’s curious of day to day trends, this account makes a post every hour for new signups per hour/day/week. It’s pretty neat.

Seems to hover around 20,000 new signups per week, and I’ve seen it hit 50,000 during these times when Twitter kicks itself in the nuts.

I had to replace my original sticks this year because they finally started to drift after five years or so.

I now have some Hall Effect sticks in each side, and I haven’t had any problems in the last six months with them. I really hope they go this route for the switch 2. It makes a lot of sense for them to, as well. They wouldn’t have to deal with fixing as many, and consumers would get a better product. Could be a rare win for both parties when I’m sure there’s some bean counters going “but if the controllers break more often we can sell more controllers!”

I hope they announce they are working on it, and it becomes a launch title for Switch 2 — along with WaveRace, baybeee. We need to be racin’ them waves.

I’m about halfway through FF5 (Pixel Remaster).

Once this game is done, I’ll have finished all the main line games except for 11. I’m planning on just doin the main quest line until where ever that ends in the base game (I already have a level 20 something character from the trial). I’ve been playing 14 for ten years so I’ve already counted that one.

Just has been a personal goal of mine to complete all of them, and I’m finally close. It’s just funny it’s taken this long. I finished 4 back when it came out in the 90s as 2 here. I still have my ff2 and ff3 SNES carts in the other room here.

6 is my favorite of the entire series so I might be too partial to it, but I do really feel like 6 is the their first big step into a somewhat modern/more mature storytelling. 4 also has a good story, but it’s still kinda tied into this idea of the main characters dealing with crystals and whatnot, and that never really resonated with me that much.

6, on the other hand, has a narrative beyond that. You don’t worry about silly crystals at all, and instead of some vague evil plaguing the world because the crystals got broken or out of alignment or whatever, you have real threats from a nation that’s using magitek technology, then later on even worse threats (and the best main antagonist of the series). I also think 6 has the most interesting characters, and even though there are a lot, almost all of them have interesting back stories you can explore. And many of those stories are tragic. You may have heard about suplexing the ghost train, but the story around the ghost train is heartbreaking. This is the first of the series where I cared about all these characters because they are written well.

It’s just a game that feels whole. Things that happen feel correct for the setting they have set up. 6 and Chrono Trigger are the absolute apex of 2D RPGs before the world jumped to 3D. And another big plus is that these games still look gorgeous because the sprites never get old unlike the boxy, ugly humanoid figures of 7.

As for the others, 1-5. They are alright. 4 is the most important of that group. It’s got a good story, though it’s not my favorite. I think the Pixel Remaster versions are pretty nice because you can set the xp gains to 4x, cutting out a TON of grinding in the older ones. And you can turn off random battles if you just want to get through a dungeon. I’ve played 2, 3, and now 5 this way. I think it’s neat to see how the series has evolved, but if you aren’t too worried about playing them yourself you could surely get by by watching some video synopses online. That said, with the 4x bump, I got through 2 and 3 each in about 10 hours. So not bad at all.

Or lightning was available first before usbc, and apple went with that and just has been stubborn to change.

Looks like lightning in 2012 and usbc in 2014.

garretble,
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

That’s a fair point. Apple has been known to do that in the past with FireWire.

But I guess on the issue of whether or not — at the time, two years before usb-c was readily available — apple should have used usb-c or lightning (the thing they helped make), you would assume they would go with lightning over waiting until an unknown amount of time for another plug to be available.

When I say they were stubborn to change from that, they were/are simply stubborn to change from that. I wish they would have pulled the bandaid off when they switched to usb-c on iPad.

Though, that said, barring speed/power, I do actually think the lightning connector is a superior design. It’s simpler, and there’s nothing to break inside the port on the phone/device. I wish usb-c was physically the same or similar.

Have you done any Last of Us, yet? Both games are excellent.

garretble,
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

I like the second one better than the first.

garretble,
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

I think it’s totally fine that a game may not be someone’s cup of tea, but I recall the second game getting a lot of negativity for…some reason I don’t fully remember.

Outside of the story the gameplay is better, the tech is better, the environments are better. Even today it holds up as a powerhouse in these areas.

But, again, a recall a lot of people trashing the game, and I’m not saying that’s you at all. Don’t get me wrong. I’m just trying to remember why a certain subset of people online were going all apey over it. To me it’s absolute top tier game to this day.

I have this feeling like we’ll get just a hint of Thrawn by the end, and that’ll set up for whatever is the next show and then whatever will be in the movies later on. I can totally see Ahsoka teaming up with Mando and Co to fight Thrawn in a movie.

garretble,
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

That’s been my guess with Ezra and Thrawn, too.

Ahsoka has to deal with Shin, Sabine, Baylon, and the witch in the next four episodes. That’s a lot. And she has the next episode to figure out how to even follow them.

And Chopper hasn’t even murdered anyone in cold blood.

There’s a lot to do!

garretble,
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

💯

We have Sebastian Stan over here looking like Luke already. Just cast the dude. Although he’s already in his 40s so maybe that’s not the best choice.

“I guess we’ll just wait until the people who don’t believe in any of this are back in office so they can gut our funding to try and force us out of jobs. But, hey, it’s just us making decisions that can affect the health of the entirety of our populace and by extension the world, so it’s fine to wait.”

garretble,
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

But then we’d be 2 years behind. Why not try to enact change today, which would get some balls rolling, and IF the bad people get in charge later we can deal with that?

This 4 year election cycle knee-capping important work is ridiculous. It’s like we only have two years immediately after a new president is elected to get anything done, then might as well wait. It’s nuts.

garretble,
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t like the idea that we wait on the whims of the republicans. Screw that.

Make the changes when you have the chance now even if maybe in the future that might change.

garretble,
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

It’s more open than 13, and while you can move about some largish areas at will, the game’s quests push you to certain locations. You don’t do a lot of self exploration, and there aren’t a ton of icons on the map to clear out.

It’s a story first game.

garretble,
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

Different strokes for different folks.

FF15 was big and open (for a while), but to me that was super boring.

@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

I’m curious of they have managed to make the camera feel better in this game versus Fallout or Skyrim when using a controller.

I realize that’s somewhat a vague statement, but I’m not sure how to describe it other than to say the that moving the camera up/down/left/right always felt very linear and it was hard to do precise movements. Like if you try to barely adjust your aim you might overshoot your target. As a comparison, Destiny feels really great to move and jump and aim. And many other games have figured this out. But Bethesda games have always felt very jerky. And, yes, it’s more RPG focused, but that doesn’t mean they also can’t feel good.

Edit: Also, as an aside I want to say I appreciate these big review posts that show up here. I enjoyed those on Reddit so keep it up!

Edit 2: at least in this Digital Foundry video, it’s very briefly mentioned that the combat “feels great” so perhaps they fixed it.

Edit 3: From The Verge review:

I focused a lot on my social skills because, much like Fallout before it, Starfield isn’t the most adept shooter. It may look like one, with a huge range of weapons to collect and the ability to play from a first-person perspective, but this is not Destiny. Aiming feels wonky, and oftentimes, shots that seem to hit an enemy point blank will fail to register. It’d be nice if Starfield had the equivalent of the VATS system from Fallout, giving it pseudo-turn-based combat, but instead, it’s just a passable shooter attached to a very ambitious RPG. That might be the reason I spent so many skill points on my persuasion abilities.

Oof

Maybe an hour?

In its first week, Immortals of Aveum had a peak count of just 751 players on Steam. (steamdb.info)

After 5 years in development and heavily pushing Unreal Engine 5 technologies, Immortals of Aveum was met with a whopping 751 player peak. For reference, Forspoken was considered a flop but still had over 12,000 players peak total. This may be the biggest flop of the year.
