Medical privacy is a great example.

Consider a situation like Texas right now where abortion went from a normal, legal thing to something that you can be fined and jailed for.

Would such a person be OK with the state having access to their medical records so they could jail or fine them?

People need to understand that much of privacy precautions are “layers” of security against “what if” scenarios that can sometimes be very real.

Players who don't like survival games as a genre: Which survival games are your personal exceptions, which ones have you enjoyed nonetheless and why?

Personally, I really don’t like most of these games due to the tedium and frustration that comes with hunger/thirst mechanics. Most of the exceptions that I do actually like either make up for it through something else that elevates the experience enough - or they either don’t have these mechanics or allow for players to...

Yeah but can they play what ever music they want for the last few hours after the lobby is closed?

Small wins.

I really hope the flying mechanics are more fluid than NMS but they look similarly hokey.

What’s really wild is that it’s so abnormal for men to get positive comments on things that 10 comments in four years is “wild”.

I don’t want to be a downer though, so… nice hat!

Queue up the server side modding scene then!

This is a great move for a games long-term playability and preservation.

How has no on said this yet.

Booting Halo was my go-to for like 10 years as the first three games came out. Literally 10s of thousands of hours.

A pay to win method is using a service like Optery that you pay and they remove you from hundreds of data brokers, sometimes by hand.

navi,
@navi@lemmy.tespia.org avatar

If you believe their privacy policy, nothing.

Optery does not sell or rent personal information to any third parties for any purpose. Optery is not a data broker. Optery does not have any financial relationship with any data broker. Optery is not affiliated with any data broker.

Announcement for an announcement. Neat!

Ways to pirate music as convenient as Spotify?

The reason I gave up on MP3’s and subscribed to Spotify was because Spotify was easy. I’ve been listening “Iron Maiden - Empire of the Clouds” song every day and like a week ago, its removed. This was the last straw for me. Right now I’m trying to find “Stremio” of the music world. Can someone assist?...

Plexamp is a great Plex music front end if you already have a Plex server with music.

That’s why you flash the vacuum with a custom firmware!

github.com/Hypfer/Valetudo

navi,
@navi@lemmy.tespia.org avatar

Doh! My bad.

It isn’t custom firmware but it does install software on top of the existing firmware onboard which is pretty slick.

ABTorrents is one of the good ones. Private though.

navi,
@navi@lemmy.tespia.org avatar

I really hope they keep tuning it to fix the false positives but this is a really amazing feature. Same with fall detection (both amazing and a little false triggering).

navi,
@navi@lemmy.tespia.org avatar

have the tracking when I actually want it.

So never? I agree defaulting it would be great as long as it doesn’t falsely remove anything.

One of the best things I did for my git usage was ditch a gui like SourceTree.

It’s far too easy for it to run an action that is actually running a series of commands under the hood and have git get stuck in the middle somewhere.

I still use gui tools (git extensions) for staging and reverting, but everything else is cli.

Please leave.

I kid! Love what ever game makes you happy!

Sounds like you want to set up DDNS (dynamic DNS). Basically run a little script on your router or server that occasionally updates a domain name with your IP address.

Many free options. DuckDNS, Cloudflare, etc.

You are dumb as fuck if you think SpaceX is not a step function of innovation for mass to orbit launch capabilities.

Here’s a chart from last year illustrating this from last year.

payloadspace.com/spacex-rules-the-ultimate-roost-…

You may hate Starlink for what ever reason and Ol Musky, but SpaceX has completely changed the game for launch capabilities and proved rocket reuse works.

It’s easy for “SpaceX to explode way more” when NASA has launched a single rocket in the last 13 years. Are you referring to Falcon 9? Starship? Falcon 1?

@navi@lemmy.tespia.org avatar

If the words I used were too big for you then you might need to read up more and get an actual opinion on space launch companies 😂.

Kill Decision by Daniel Suarez is a good book on the topic. Very good audio book too!

navi,
@navi@lemmy.tespia.org avatar

Yeah sorry, should have mentioned it’s a near future scifi book, definitely not a scientifically accurate novel 😂.

It does however explore a lot of the moral issues around drones acting on their own to target people.

If your dog hates their crate, the owner fucked up and used it as a punishment. Not crate training your dog is cruelty and irresponsible.

What does someone do when pet sitting your dog? Or when it’s sick and needs to be contained? Or when it’s at the vet for an extended period of time? Or if it escapes and is captured by animal control?

If you don’t prepare a dog to be comfortable in its own space then it’s going to freak the FUCK out which isn’t fare for the dog.

Get some help

navi,
@navi@lemmy.tespia.org avatar

No, for doom spiralling with strangers on the internet over pet advice.

navi,
@navi@lemmy.tespia.org avatar

Every respectable pet professional recommends crate training. Dogs are not human children, they do not behave like them and do not need the same care and resources them. At the end of the day if you don’t crate train a dog, that’s your choice. But crate training is far from cruel and provides dogs with a happy space of their own where they feel safe, secure, and in control.
