Maybe the title is misleading. I don’t know any Japanese, but using online translation, this is what you get from the original article:
Internet news sites have been reporting observations of the successor, but President Furukawa pointed out, “Rumors are circulating mainly on the Internet as if they were public information, but they are inaccurate.'”
This doesn’t negate anything, it just says the rumours are inaccurate, which is probably true in most cases. So this is just saying “rumours are just rumours”, it doesn’t mean there’s absolutely no truth in any of them. He then says (again, translated online):
He cited reports that Nintendo provided explanations about next-generation consoles to specific software makers in 2022 and that Nintendo demonstrated a new model at an overseas event in the summer of 2023, denying them as “untrue.”.
In this case I’d say even if these were true, calling them “untrue” doesn’t negate all of it absolutely, just that this is not exactly how it happened or whatever. Also take into account these are online translations so it might be that the sentences are even more vague in Japanese.
The Switch is losing steam, which is expected at its age, so it’ll be a matter of time. It’s obvious Nintendo has been working on their next thing for quite some time, as they always do, but we won’t know exactly what it is until anything official is said.
I was expecting more copies of Tears of the Kingdom to be sold. It sold 18.52 in the first 2 months. But it seems like that was it. Maybe the Christmas consumerism moves a few more millions,
This one’s exciting. I played so much Top Gear on the SNES! And the music is excellent. With so many collections, Switch is my ultimate retro console 😬
I finally finished Pikmin 4 with 99% completion. I know exactly the 1% I’m missing, but I’m not sure when/if I’ll ever go back and finish that. The ending felt quite like a chore, which was a shame.
I am definitely playing more Mario Wonder this weekend and maybe try out Sonic Superstars 1 player mode since I’ve only played co-op so far.
The ending was a chore for me. I don’t want to spoil it, but the last stretch is a bit repetitive. And it’ll be quite some work to finish the missing 1%, so I don’t know if I’ll do it 😬 (I’ll probably want to play Pikmin 4 again in a few months).
Sonic Superstars hasn’t had too much love from with Mario Wonder in the Switch most of the time 😅
Also, from Famitsu sales in Japan: Super Mario Bros. Wonder for Switch was the highest selling new release of the week, opening at 638,634 retail copies sold gematsu.com/…/famitsu-sales-10-16-23-10-22-23
Earlier this year Charles Martinet, who voiced Mario for decades, retired. After weeks of speculation about his replacement, Nintendo revealed the new voice actor with little fanfare. What gives?...
It’s been a while since I played the unpatched version, so take this as a very informal review. It took a while to start when I first booted it, maybe it was still doing some work in the background. But once the logos started appearing it just went on to the intro and stuff. Some things seem to show up faster, but it’s still far from ideal.
There’s one part that might be a bit better than before, say when you press “Local” to just fight one fight against the CPU or another player locally. It still takes a good while until you get to the character selection screen though.
Something that’s still quite bad is the character render while you’re choosing a character. Say you choose Sub-Zero, you wait a few seconds, and Sub-Zero shows up on the screen. When you move your cursor to a different character, Sub-Zero will remain there for quite a few more seconds, until whatever your new character is loaded. So if you’re fast (not even trying to be fast, just tapping your d-pad normally), you’ll go through lots of characters that will not render at all, since it takes them some time.
The other really bad part is once both characters have been chosen, there’s this zoom in where they say something to each other. And this is so awkward, since both models just stay there, staring at each other, while you wait for the fight to load…
Fights do feel like they might be faster. You still get some proper frame drops and once in this fight the camera stayed still while the action happened kind of out of frame to the right.
I haven’t played the new patch that much (maybe this weekend), but I played several fights on the unpatched version locally. It doesn’t feel like a massive improvement, or maybe I just don’t remember it that well and it’s definitely much faster.
It’s still a fun game, I just hope they keep fixing and optimising it. And hopefully they fixed these kind of weird glitches… fatality glitch
I hope they do fix it, it’s good that they’re addressing it. The Switch has such a massive install base these days that developers can’t just treat us as second class citizens anymore 😅. I ordered it at a discount but I haven’t received it yet. Hopefully there’ll be an update soon!
I play Mortal Kombat 11 on the Switch and it’s definitely not as good as the more powerful consoles’ versions, but it’s still fun. If they get this one to work at least as well as MK11, it’s good enough for me. We’ll see…
Ok, yeah… I got the game today and it’s seriously bad. I won’t play it again until there’s an update. Once you’re finally fighting it’s not too bad, but you just need too much patience to get to a fight 😆
Personally, I think Nintendo needs to stop using Star Fox as a tech demo for their new gimmicks like they did with Star Fox Command on the DS and Star Fox Zero on the Wii U. Star Fox: Assault was a great game for the Game Cube and got way more hate than it deserved. The spaceship levels were great, it expanded the story, enemies and characters, and it was a generally fun game.
Yeah, there were complains about the third-person shooter stages and the control scheme. I played it recently and you can tell the controllers didn’t age well in those sections. But it’s not terrible, and the game’s still a lot of fun and has a good story.
Some family stuff kept me busy this week, and I didn’t really play anything. Hopefully things will get sorted this week, will get back to normal routine then....
Still playing Pikmin 4, I think I might be close to finishing. It’s been fun, but I’m starting to feel a bit bored after almost 30 hours…
After yesterday’s Direct I got Horizon Chase 2 which I was expecting on the Switch. It’s a bit buggy (nothing major, just small things here and there), and the frame rate drops in some stages, but it’s still quite fun and the music is amazing. Barry Leitch never disappoints 🙌
I think I’m at the last site of the main campaign. I’ve been playing pretty relaxed and getting 100% in each site. HowLongToBeat says it takes 38½ hours for “Completionists”, so I’m guessing that’ll be how long it takes me at least. But I’m in no rush 😅
Horizon Chase 2 is pretty fun, it’s arcade racing, so pretty accessible for people who don’t play realistic racing games like me (the only other racing game I play is Mario Kart!).
I also played some Smash Ultimate during the weekend and I’m seriously considering getting Nintendo Online again to play online (and also for F-Zero 99…).
The good sign -to me- is if they’re still hyping up major Switch games so late in the game, it probably means whatever comes next will be backwards compatible.
