ech,

While my first thought too, state demographics means the vast majority of random drivers would be white.

That’s the thing about systemic racism - it’s not random.

ech,

Sigh “You could’ve just opened the curtains, Dave.”

But honestly, good piece. I always enjoy semi-surreal paintings.

ech,

a change in the substrate on which it takes place also has no profound significance.

It does to the person being “deleted”.

ech,

Literally my first thought was wondering how much of that is excrement, considering their toilet situation.

ech,

trench mouth

Good lord, that’s foul.

ech,

I’d probably be pretty pissy, too, if my parents named me “Sour Prince”.

ech,

To be clear “CRT” when used by alt-right reactionaries is not the Critical Race Theory college level courses most people would expect. It is used as a bully word for the Right to rally around and push actual historical knowledge out of grade-school education (and it’s worked very well for them).

ech,

This makes no sense. No one’s telling you to publish your rules for WotCs benefit. They’re saying you don’t need to feel beholden to rules you don’t agree with. You’re not working for WotC, you’re “working” for yourself.

ech,

SMASH “Click on one…” SMASH “And we got it open”

ech, (edited )

Yup. There’s a lot of dumb moaning about how it “went woke” and that it changed too much, but having played it, it’s biggest flaw (imo) was that it didn’t change enough. It tried to integrate humor and story that peaked in the late 2000s and mash it together with a “modern” setting and cast. And it didn’t help that the gameplay felt as aged as the humor. All in all, it was too medium for it’s own good, taking too few risks and not changing enough for a franchise that made it’s mark pushing the envelope.

ech,

If Embracer Group wasn’t frantically trying to right the ship, Volition would’ve been left alone. This is on the gratuitously large capitalist conglomerate that’s bought up every studio it could.

ech,

Could you not though? Images taking up most of my screen real estate isn’t exactly enjoyable.

ech,

That would be preferred, personally. Or a setting on Lemmy to automatically collapse the images. This was a setting on RES for Reddit, but it’s probably not a pressing issue for the Lemmy devs right now.

ech,

Good thing they announced it so early. Wouldn’t want to be caught off guard over a decade later with a launch announcement.

ech,

I’m not “impatient”. I just think it’s dumb to have announced it so early. No one needs to know about development of such a far off project. It’s pointless.

ech,

wtf are you talking about?

ech,

Don’t blame the generation, it just makes you sound like an old man yelling “get off my lawn”.

I’m assuming that they are also Gen Z, with the whole college roommates thing.

ech,

I went to college at 29.

Did you also have just-out-of-highschool roommates though?

Also, fair on the rest of your point. Don’t have to be old to act old.

More dog owners are questioning vaccines like rabies after COVID (www.pressherald.com)

More than half of U.S. dog owners expressed concerns about vaccinating their dogs, including against rabies, according to a new study published Saturday in the journal Vaccine. The study comes as anti-vaccine sentiments among humans have exploded in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic....

ech,

There’s also a lot of disagreement on if the Milwaukee Protocol works or if it’s something else entirely that we’re just starting to figure out, and if it’s worth the risks of things like lock-in syndrome if it won’t do anything helpful for most people. Radiolab has a pretty interesting episode about it all

ech,

More like 99.99999999999999999999999999999…well, you get the point. In all of human history, there have only been a handful of confirmed survivors of rabies. It’s the most lethal disease known to man.

ech,

It’s a bit old at 2020 though so there are probably a few more.

Well the average is 1 survivor every 167 years, so I’d say that’s charitable.

ech,

Sure as hell do. Shoe-in for frisbee throwing champs.

ech,

30 survivors in 5000 years = 1/167. Apparently it’s about 4000 years, so 1/133. My bad.

ech,

You’re taking this way more seriously than it was intended. It was an off the cuff comment. I just took the known history of rabies and divided it by known survivors.

What film, show or game that is not necessarily 'underated' didn't have the level of social impact it deserved.

What’s the antithesis of Arrested Development, Firefly or The Big Lebowski? Those may never have ‘found their audience’ but over time seemed to recognised by everyone. What are the deep cuts that you liked but it feels like everyone has completely forgotten they even existed.

ech,

The Good Place might just be my favorite TV show. It’s just so well done on every level and is one of few sitcoms where the main characters aren’t just terrible people. They’re not perfect or anything, but it’s just nice to see characters earnestly carrying for others and trying to be better people.

Parks and Rec is another show like that (also by Michael Schur) that I just love.

ech,

Such a good movie and a great showcase of Steve Carrell’s (and the rest of the cast’s) range, managing to be heartbreaking and laugh out loud funny throughout the movie.

ech,

Just swap the first vowel in each name and you’ve got a great parody account

ech,

FIFA and RFEF are different, aren’t they?

I just realized how incredible it is that we don't have toes growing out of our ears.

AFAIK it all boils down to the fact that during embryonal development our cells, which at that point were just a blob of undifferentiated autonomous chemical machines, somehow managed to unanimously agree upon the cardinal directions (up-down, left-right, front-back) for future development - and thanks to this, we don’t have...

ech,

I mean, that’s what dna is for. These machines aren’t operating blindly (or even “cooperating” or agreeing on anything, really). They’re following the code that makes up who we are.

ech,

They don’t so much know where they are as much as they’re just interacting with what’s there in the way they were made to, which was all put there due to the DNA to function as a whole.

And to be clear, it’s all still amazing, just in a different way. Here’s Kurzgesagt video that helps explain how these cells “communicate” to do things like put a body together in the right order.

ech,

Does Jeopardy have writers

They’re literally quoted in the body of the post.

ech,

It’s certainly pretty conspicuous timing, but the guy is also almost 70, and been doing the job for over 30 years. It’d definitely make sense for him to just figure it’s time to pull back.

ech,

You realize adults can be pressured to say and do things they don’t want to do…right?

ech,

And their quote is from the first Avatar series.

ech,

Did you mean $365,000,000? Or did you get confused by the “.”? Cause that’s used as a comma for numbers in a lot of European countries, so it’s $100k per day, not $100.

Also, it’d be exactly 10 cents per day, since $365k per year would be $1k per day, which 100 is 10% of.

ech,

So assuming things haven’t changed too much for them, this is about 1%. Barely noticeable.

ech,

Ah, my mistake.

ech,

Not sure if the nsfw tag was a mistake or what, but I just thought of this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9aM_dT5VMI

ech,

All I can think of is those old PSAs. “It’s 8:55 AM. Do you know where your files are?”

ech,

That’s actually an entirely different site. Lots of leather.

ech,

Normal people not wanted to put themselves in legal jeopardy doesn’t make them a “corpo”.

ech,

He was pretty cool, but then just became a jobber because Dragon Ball is “Power Creep the Series”.

ech,

I’d say “The Failled” still works.

ech,

Guess we shouldn’t have any laws about anything, then.

ech,

If your single point is “trying to stop people only makes them do it more”, than no, it’s not a “leap”. That invalidates the very idea of having laws in the first place.

And fwiw, I’m not arguing in favor of this law, just against the idea you replied with.

ech,

I’m not arguing against extremes, I’m arguing against a bad argument. And I’m not drunk, I only wish I were.

ech,

We said it’s true of teenagers and porn. Duh.

I don’t see any such qualifiers. Do you?

ech,

I wasn’t responding to them, so how does that matter?
