DudePluto,

Maybe you shouldn’t even have had your account on the largest server to begin with?

Some of us made our accounts on lemmy.world within a week(?) of its creation when it was tiny (June 5 for me). Doesn’t stop it from belonging on mildly infuriating

DudePluto,

lemmy.world rule 1:

No illegal content, including sharing copyrighted material

c/[email protected] rule 3:

Don’t request or link to specific pirated titles

So c/[email protected] doesn’t even break that rule. It’s for discussion. Unless you take a very broad reading of not allowing the sharing of resources that could be used to pirate copyrighted material, but that’s not an issue anywhere else

DudePluto,

If you try to access one of the blocked communities from lemmy.world you’ll see it’s blocked, dude

DudePluto,

It all depends on context, imo. People should generally leave other people’s private property alone. But if it’s an ugly cinderblock wall downtown, some kind of drab piece of infrastructure, and the graffiti artist is actually making an effort to make it look good - it can be public art

DudePluto,

If you’re going to break it down that far, why stop? Your “self” is not your central nervous system, but a portion of it - and not a very large one. It’s your consciousness. Most of what your nervous system does is not conscious.

Your self (and mine) are but a small portion of a single organ in a large network of organs and tissues and cells and bacteria. We developed because it was advantageous for our bodies - which predate our consciousness - to have pilots. We are periphery. We are a single part of an ecosystem. And definitely not the center of it

DudePluto,

How is this fire related to climate change? Genuine question because I don’t understand the connection

DudePluto,

Thank you for the detailed explanation!

DudePluto,

If everyone were a gardener no one would need a warrior

DudePluto,

He forgot to mention that the theory is that it happened on accident. Thus he fell forward, causing him to misfire

DudePluto,

Seriously what are the stories on those? Surely they were submitted by children or something?

DudePluto,

I have a huge problem with the Americans and Brits for this, they marginalise the fuck out if our dialect, make fun of it for being unitelligible

I mean I know you’re talking about the wider world and not just this thread, but you started the conversation by being disingenuous about Americans and their dialects. It’s kind of hard for people to take “I have a legitimate dialect” seriously when you just got done trashing half a continent’s worth of dialects

Maybe if we all broach the topic with a little more understanding, you and everyone will feel better about it. For example Appalachian English and Northern Ireland English are both dialects with their own rules of pronunciation and grammar. They’re both legitimate. But it’s not surprising they’d have trouble understanding each other because they have so little interaction. But with patience and mutual respect it can happen

DudePluto,

It’s hilarious that you’re downvoted because asking them to move has never failed in my experience. Given I’m in the Midwest and there’s the whole “Midwestern sensibility” stereotype, but I don’t think anyone here is different from anywhere else.

Most people who do this either don’t think about the fact they’re blocking the whole aisle or they don’t realize you want through. A simple excuse me will let them know

DudePluto,

Yes to making housing more affordable but also, for your consideration: have more orgies. You’ll feel a lot closer to your fellow community members

DudePluto,

Usually a polite ‘excuse me’ does the trick but some people actively pick a fight upon hearing that phrase.

Win-win situation. Either they step aside and apologize (only ever had this one happen), or they get rude and I get to unload all my pent up rage on some unsuspecting civilian without feeling bad about it. Like free therapy

DudePluto,

Seriously what the hell is going on in this thread. Think everyone should take a deep breath and realize that we all make mistakes and inconvenience each other sometimes, but most of us will also correct our mistake if it’s brought to our attention

DudePluto,

It was a joke dude

DudePluto,

At least lemmy has lots of mirrored communities so if one starts to suck you can go to a smaller one with the same topic

DudePluto,

Change your sort options. Your lemmy experience will change drastically depending on whether you’re sorting by hot, active, top, etc.

DudePluto,

Are these femboy cardiobunnies at gyms even in the midwest? Asking for anon

What is a good hobby for a depressed person?

So i still have depression and im constantly bored, i feel like a loser who cant do anything right. I want to let my creativeness out, make something i can share with the world or family, but im probably dreaming too big. I cant stand being depressed and bored, it stinks, everyone tells me to work out but i lack the motivation...

DudePluto,

Yes! I struggle to motivate myself to stick with hobbies. I love photography, making art, writing - but often the motivation is just lacking. But cooking? I’m biologically motivated to cook (most days) so it’s easy to keep up with. All I have to do is save recipes and plan ahead just a little

DudePluto,

Is there a community for this?

DudePluto,

Idk if I’d go that far by Crystal Skull was definitely the answer I was thinking of. Had a few parts that really strained the audience, sure, but overall a descent film imo

DudePluto,

I feel like it has to be due to people not liking the religion twist and Mila Kunis, right? I feel like it was easily 60% or up

DudePluto,

Definitely never realized those were rated badly, huh

DudePluto,

There wasn’t enough time spent on character backstory! Use your glowing rectangle.

I agree that backstory is non-essential, but are critics criticizing the lack of backstory or the lack of fully fleshed out characters? Because imo one of the reasons the first Suicide Squad was bad was because it didn’t have adequately fleshed out characters. Any movie that relies on outside material to fill in essential blanks is not doing one of the major things a movie is supposed to do: tell a full story with its characters. Or at least it’s not doing it well

DudePluto,

You would think that wouldn’t you, Margot Robbie?

DudePluto,

I always look at it as:

Critics judge craftsmanship. Audiences judge enjoyment.

DudePluto,

That scene at Medieval Times when Carrey does that great rendition of the fight music from Star Trek.

It’s always been interesting to me how relevant movies from the 90s and early 2000s make Star Trek seem at that time. Cable Guy and Wayne’s World both come to mind as movies that make multiple, occasionally obscure Trek references. I was born in 96 and watch a fair amount of Trek but it just doesn’t feel as relevant in my generation :/

DudePluto,

Individuals and small companies would never be able to compete with the resources of someone like Amazon

DudePluto,

I don’t think you realize how incredibly short 10 years is in terms of investment recuperation. That’s not realistic unless you’re talking about abandoning capitalism all together, at which point the particulars of IP law are irrelevant

DudePluto,

Yeah look at how every single conversation about supporting small businesses went on reddit. Users would rage day and night about the ills of megacorporations. But if you got them talking about supporting small business they’d come out of the woodwork to tell you they’re not paying a higher price. And with things being as tight as they are right now, that’s a logical conclusion. But it just goes to show that even if you sit someone down and explain to them that X thing they say they support absolutely cannot compete with the price of Y thing they say they hate - they will still side with their pocketbook 9/10 times

DudePluto, (edited )

Give them a break, they had no other accepted way to explore their sexuality

/s but also not /s

DudePluto, (edited )

Absolutely, there’s a long history of the “in-group” co-opting culture from the “out-group” because it’s seen as exotic and transgressive. Was it hypocritical for such a homophobic generation to idolize queer icons, only so long as they were cool and made good music? On a cultural level, yeah. On an individual level, depends on the individual and their specific beliefs and actions

Edit: Also my favorite Bowie album will always be Ziggy Stardust. Maybe a little basic but it just hits all the right campy, flamboyant, and always-incredible notes

DudePluto,

But everyone was so much thinner back then. The average person was so much hotter.

Because they inherited an economy with actual food and replaced it with “food” filled with industrial inventions like corn syrup

DudePluto,

What’s also fun is the few times I’ve been back to reddit to look at something. Each time I ended up seeing people in the comments with just terrible attitudes. And I thought to myself, “I’m weirdly glad reddit is still around because it gives people like you a place to congregate that I can avoid.”

DudePluto,

Thought about rooting my s10e. Providing someone knows how to follow directions, what are the chances of bricking my phone?

DudePluto,

I live because the mountains do not laugh and the worms do not sing.

DudePluto,

It’s pretty awesome! I’m only like a third through it but it’s so relatable already

DudePluto,

Economic liberalism is the economic theory of both American parties. Idk how it came to be applied to only the democratic party but that’s incorrect. OP is presumably critiquing economic liberalism from a leftist perspective, of which the Democrats are not
