ech,

If no one answers, they’re not spending minutes, are they?

ech, (edited )

As far as I can tell it’s comments made within the last 510(?) minutes or so.

ech,

Ah, that makes some sense. Would still like more control over if it appears at all, but I’m glad to know it’s at least not intentionally that glaring.

ech,

If it’s optional, whatever, but if it’s a forced game “feature”, that would suck. I am perfectly capable of choosing the difficulty of the game I’m playing. Sometimes I want a good challenge, sometimes I don’t, but I never need the game to decide for me that I’m taking too long or going too fast. Screw all of that.

ech, (edited )

Huh, I didn’t know about that mechanic in that series. I never really did end up liking L4D much, and thinking back on it, probably my biggest issue with the game was a feeling that I never really improved. No matter what I did, every time I played felt like I couldn’t catch up, and it wasn’t an enjoyable, “challenging” feeling. It was just frustrating.

ech,

Ok? I’m not saying it didn’t exist, just that I wasn’t aware of it.

ech,

Gotcha. I got the jist of it, but thanks for the additional info.

ech,

I’m not going to assume your position here, but this really comes off as some “all lives matter” style counter protesting.

ech,

I definitely see that angle, hence the not assuming, but "um actually"ing a social progress motto isn’t a great look, especially with the existence of “*all lives matter” hanging around.

Also, the whole motto is “Trans Rights are human rights”, so that’s quite literally already laid out.

ech,

You get how unhelpful this is, right? Like, do you go to abortion rights protests and preach the same bs? Or gay rights marches? You’re not helping anyone with this “actually, everyone deserves these rights” garbage. “Everyone” doesn’t face the same problems, so just let people advocate for their rights as they see fit instead of trying to kneecap them for the sake of “equality”.

ech,

Like I started my first comment with, I’m not assuming that’s what they meant with their “correction”. I’m just pointing out the poor optics with a comment like that. And as I said to the other user, the whole slogan is “Trans rights are human rights”. There’s no need to “correct” it - it’s already there.

ech,

Anything to fuel their persecution/hero complex, eh? Can’t just do some good (however they might define that). It’s gotta be a war.

ech,

Me with Speedrunners. Got hooked on it for a little while and got pretty good, but put it down for a few years and don’t stand a chance against anyone still playing it, especially with any custom map.

ech,

What are you even talking about? As far as I can tell, the vast majority of the games provided are complete, and also a lot of them a frankly great.

ech,

Well, for one, Gamepass isn’t GaaS, it’s a subscription service. And most of the games in their collection are also not GaaS games, to be clear. Second, that wasn’t your initial, hyperbolic point, which was that “shame pass” is a ripoff because it only provides incomplete games (which is also not true).

If you don’t like it, you do you, but don’t make shit up about something just because.

ech,

This has nothing to do with what “value” either of us see in the product. What you said is simply wrong and I’ve already explained why. That you refuse to accept that really just points to your desire to promote misinformation. However, I don’t need to convince you of anything and I’m not going waste my time repeating myself endlessly.

ech,

“Gary Oldman thanks Batman, Harry Potter for ‘saving’ his family life”.

Accurate, informative, and shorter than the given title.

ech,

Use more of your hand to grab more of the towel, and pull with a steady pressure instead of one hard yank.

ech,

That’s true, but the more surface area you’re interacting with, the less that part will matter. Unless it’s super jammed up, it should come out.

ech,

Eccleston was 40 by this time, a seasoned professional, and a socially conscientious one too. According to the same rumours, he was furious with the conditions of the first block shoot and went to management — which would be Davies, Tranter, Collinson and Gardner, the same foursome that are running the show again now. Whatever he demanded of them, whatever their response was, we don’t know for sure — but it appears that wass the straw that broke the camel’s back for him.

As he says in the panel recording, there were genuine highlights later in the production but apparently they couldn’t outweigh the damage that was done to his working relationship with the showrunner and producers.

That’s interesting. From this it sort of sounds like it’s mutual bad blood between them, not just Eccleston. Regardless, it’s a shame that all this happened. Though I don’t judge him for being soured on the work environment, he really was great.

Add to all the above that it has since come to light how John Barrowman made it a running joke to get naked on set and come up behind others to put his penis on them. As a prank, sure, but it probably riled up an actor like Eccleston, who has gone on to deny working with “that prick” again.

More seriously Noel Clarke has been accused of sexual harrasment by a score of female crew and colleagues — actions that have taken place on productions such as Doctor who. I’m pretty sure that and Barrowman’s nude pranks is what Eccleston refers to when he talks about “pre MeToo” lawlessness on the production.

Big YIKES. I had no idea about all of that. And while John’s “antics” are maybe not surprising, I do feel it’s a discredit to everyone else to dismiss those actions as simple pranks. Sexual freedom is all well and good, but it still requires consent, which was clearly not given here. Without that, it’s sexual harassment. Period.

ech,

Understood.

ech,

TJ Miller had the best delivery. Shame he turned out to be so unbalanced.

ech,

If you’re referring to the overhead style showerhead, personally I’ve seen them in the UK (no idea if it’s the norm, but it’s what I had access to) and a few times in the US, though it’s definitely not the norm there.

ech,

Most showerheads, in my experience, spray water at an angle from closer to the wall (like this), or are a more mobile version that usually sits in a similar position, but can also be used handheld (like this). A showerhead that sprays water from directly overhead is unusual.

ech,

You seem insistent on overcomplicating things that have explanation easily at hand. Hurt isn’t counted because the character relinquished the title for the period of time that he existed. Tennant is only 10th and 14th. The metacrisis Doctor was not the Doctor, they weren’t even Timelord. And Gatwa isn’t “sharing” the current generation. The bi-generation is best explained as time loop - 14 will continue to live and emotionally heal, and at some point will regenerate into 15, who pops up where they’re introduced in the show (ie “doing rehab out of order”). And to your last point, Jo Martin’s Doctor pre-dates the current cycle, which is pretty plainly established by Chibnall themselves, so I’m pretty sure they understand it.

To keep it even more simple, just believe the show runners when they say which iteration is which instead of deciding they’re wrong about the show they are making for reasons that have already been explained.

ech,

I’m not sure I’d describe it as “too 2005”, but I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the new aesthetic. A part of Dr Who that I’ve always loved has been them making it work with what they had. Not to say they were getting by on scraps, particularly in the later seasons, but it was never the flashiness of special effects that drew me in. From running down eerily similar corridors throughout the series, to episodes contained to just one room, Dr Who’s best traits existed beside all of the effects they were able to afford, and the last few specials have felt kind of…“flat” for lack of a better word, while the post-production budget has clearly ballooned. I’m still excited for the next regeneration, but I’m a bit wary if the new season is going to be a lot like the specials have been. Maybe it’s just something I’ll get used to. Who knows.

ech, (edited )

This was my favorite of this series of specials. I was pretty concerned that they had cast NPH as The Master for a bit there (I’m a NuWho Noob, so I had never heard of The Toymaker), but aside from that, it was pretty good! Ended up skipping through the song-and-dance number, though. Just wasn’t for me. Intrigued by the bi-generation twist and the new generation. We got too little of 15 to really develop any sort of insight, but he seems solid enough so far. Looking forward to Christmas!

Also, where the hell did that hand come from at the end? It came from off the edge of the platform. Was it a POV shot? So confusing XD

ech,

15 got the pants, 14 got the trousers. Maybe this is the Doctor that rescues the universe in their drawers.

ech,

Oh wow, yeah. You nailed it. That would’ve been perfect.

ech,

Recommended by 4 out of 5 Tennants.

ech,

(Disclaimer: There was a little explanation in the episodes, but I’m mostly extrapolating here)

He attracted a being of “game play” by playing a trick (ie 'game) on the edge of reality, where the borders are less solid, thus attracting the Toymaker’s attention and giving them an anchor into this universe. Given how powerful they clearly are, it wouldn’t take much to give them enough to make their way in.

ech,

even if they had killed him off.

That’s the fun of shows like this - literally nothing is off the table. It’s like kids playing games at recess, making up rules as they go. There’s a bit more to it than pure “lawlessness”, but the rules can always give way to fun. I love it.

ech,

Definitely a call back, but my question is more so the physicality of it in universe. That was the edge of a platform 50 some stories in the air, and the hand came from off the platform. Was it someone reaching through a hole in reality? An invisible floating entity that still cares about their nails? I’m very curious!

ech,

It can’t be The Master. They were in the tooth because the toymaker beat them.

ech,

Frankly this whole series of specials felt that way to me. I get they had a lot they wanted to accomplish, and I think what they ended up with was fine, but I am hoping this isn’t setting precedent for the next series. It felt so cramped and rushed.

ech, (edited )

Maybe! I do think there’s been a plethora of Timelord big-bads already, so I’m hoping it’s something new, personally.

*(Spoiler-y ahead)Looking back on it, since 11’s timelord-less run, we’ve only had one season where the big bad wasn’t the Master or some other timelord. I think we’re due a change of pace.

ech, (edited )

Mrs. Tennant in several ways.

ech,

Thanks for embedding the image so it interrupts the comments here, too. Very helpful.

ech, (edited )

And this comment is just ads. Great content people.

ech,

Better comparison would’ve been something like “Annoyed with your landlord? Go build a cabin in the woods!”. Like, that’s straight-up appealing to some people, but it’s also not just something anyone and everyone can do.

ech,

If one person is dominating the game that much, that’s not a good thing.

ech, (edited )

10 and 11 are pretty much tied for my favorite iterations, both special in their own ways. One of my favorite things about 10 was his care for “little” things while dealing with universe threatening events. From little shops in hospitals, to old men trapped in a box. The other generations cared about those things in their way too, sure, but he cared about them just as much as the biggest of things he had or would face. And not in a quippy way, where it could be played off as a gag, but genuine care. His run was just great.

*Another characteristic of 10 that I love - his core need/desire to give every foe he faces a chance, at times pleading with them to stop or change, not because he couldn’t stop them, but because he genuinely would rather be friends with them, and would spare them the misery of dealing with what he ends up doing to stop them otherwise.

ech, (edited )

I never exactly warmed up to Twelve, but he had a good number of moments that I loved, and this quote was one of them.

ech, (edited )

Through no fault of anyone, Eccleston being followed by Tennant and then by Smith really overshadowed his wonderful performance and all the credit he deserves for being the Doctor that brought the series back. I’ll always love him for that season. He really was fantastic.

ech,

11 was so menacing sometimes, in the best way.

Madame Kovarian : The anger of a good man is not a problem. Good men have too many rules.

The Doctor : Good men don’t need rules. Today is not the day to find out why I have so many.

ech,

I legitimately think of this bit regularly. It was such a perfect (re)introduction to The Doctor.
