Donna is both my least and most favorite character. It’s interesting. I hate the character when she’s being overly critical and hostile for no reason, which she was mostly in the beginning (and still is a bit, here and there), but her character development is the best in the series. She’s one of the most caring and empathetic characters that we’ve seen so far and I love that. And her (previously) final arc was absolutely heart breaking.
It was a bit muddled, in my eyes. Felt like they were trying to go for spooky and whimsical at the same time and neither melded well with the other, and it ended up feeling confused and messy. It got better as the episode went on, though.
Midnight still holds the top “spooky Dr Who episode”, imo, and I don’t expect it to be one upped easily. It’s so good.
Decent enough ep. The tone seemed a bit muddled, as they seemed to be going for a spooky vibe while simultaneously keeping the “lighthearted” mood they were pushing last episode too. Kind of threw me off. I liked the baddies, though, and I appreciate a story where the sonic or TARDIS can’t be used to just magic out a solution (except for the TARDIS Ex Machina at the end, I suppose). Also was very happy to see Wilfred! I was entirely unaware they had gotten scenes with him before he passed and was just expecting references. Overall I enjoyed it and am looking forward to next week!
*One little minor technical nitpick - if there’s literally nothing outside the ship, and the captain wasn’t wearing a helmet, how did they decompose?
What the hell was the Mavity thing about? How could they have known Newton misheard them like that?
They altered time so Newton discovered “Mavity” instead of “Gravity”. How The Doctor still knew it as gravity is interesting, but any human would only know it as mavity.
Because it exists in the context of his behavior over the last few years of becoming increasingly anti-trans and just shitty overall. It’s not so farfetched to see this and believe he’s in on it.
What? Choosing to bash the existence of real people for views isn’t better. It’s legitimately worse than people who earnestly believe these things. At least they’re trying to improve things as they see it, even if it’s still horrible. Anyone promoting hate like this just for clout and money is the lowest of the low.
Never heard that term before, but looking into the original webcomic, it kind of comes off as a defense of bigotry and hate. Like, I get how it sort of relates to what everyone’s attributing it to, but if someone says they hate “those kinds of people”, should they really expect to not be harangued for it?
To be clear, I’m not trying to defend the user “just asking for evidence” here. Just questioning the source of this term, which seems, well, questionable.
Because that’s not the point of my comment? We both know what I’m talking about, and several posts in this very thread go into more detail. If you seriously don’t see the problems with it, I’m not the one who’s going to convince you otherwise.
But I doubt you’re quite so genuine. So go take your “just asking for evidence” trolling elsewhere.
Why is this bullshit being posted and getting tons of traction
I already said - context. If none of the anti-trans stuff happened, nobody would care about this photo. And nobody’s using this as “evidence”. It’s just more shit on the pile.
Ah, yeah, that’s true. I always just kind of attribute that TARDIS design to 12, hah. 11 left it so bare that it looks almost entirely new after the regen.
However, I did not like how her being trans seemed to have been caused by the metacrisis. It felt like it flew in the face of the normalisation.
I get that reading of it, but I think her “I finally feel like me” line after releasing the meta-crisis was more an acknowledgment of finally being able to let go of the 10th doctor’s maleness, not that the meta-crisis made her trans.
How is it “absurd bullshit”? Do you think it’s somehow a different element? At worst, it’s as bullshit as any other vitamin supplement, in that it’s technically helpful, but just far more than your body can make use of.
Tried to think of a “favorite” and just can’t. They all blew my little mind in equivalent ways. Fellowship is such an amazing start to the trilogy. Towers has Helms Deep and everything else. And Return is a mind blowing finale. They’re all so goooood.
The point of the meme is “How dare creators expect any sort of compensation for their work!? No ads! No subscriptions! Give it to us for the ‘exposure’!”
I’m very aware of the problems with weak-effort content on the Internet, and if the first half wasn’t “Cool guy pays to give away content for free”, yeah, that might be it. It’s pretty clearly not OPs intent, though.
The system is far from perfect, but that people can now subsidize their income or replace it entirely with content creation is not a bad thing. People deserve to be compensated for their work, whether that work is for a corporation or for an audience of fans.
My family does this. Even if I have watched it, if it’s a movie worth watching, it’s gonna answer all necessary questions. Just give it some damn time!
Not to say it’s objectively wrong, but if it’s someone like me that you’re watching a movie with, I generally expect quiet. A comment here and there is probably fine in the right context, but constantly breaking into conversation mid-movie is a distraction I don’t really appreciate. Generally, I think it’s important to understand the expectations of everyone involved.
If someone can figure out a reasonable way to legislate against FOMO, then by all means, go for it. I already agreed it’s a problem, but it’s pretty much the base of capitalism - make something, put a price on it, and if someone deems it worth the price, they buy it. So aside from a complete restructuring of what at this point is the main economic system of the world, I’m not really expecting much to be done about expensive cosmetics in video games.
True art has and will survive worse. Honestly, imo, nothing “mainstream” can really be considered an artform in any meaningful sense. Art can sneak through, but anything made with profit as the main motivator just isn’t going to be pushing any envelopes.
Yes, actually. Because there’s nothing different about microtransactions than anything else being sold today, and realistically, microtransactions in video games are just about the least important problem with our economic system. We have much more serious problems that still can’t get regulation. Nobody with an ounce of authority is gonna bother specifically with video game costumes.
So if you actually want government mandated change on this particular problem, the only real way that’s happening is a wholesale revision or rejection of capitalism itself by the government, which, yeah, is pretty far fetched.
Our real options are just…not buying these things. Don’t support it, ever, even for things that appeal to you. Advocate for others to reject it as well. It’s probably not gonna work well or quickly, but it’s gonna be the most effective thing we as consumers can actually do.
It’s never gonna happen. That’s my point. And where did I blame “individual action” here? I’m on your side on this one, bud. I’m just being realistic about it.
That’s not what Fatalism is, pointing out what can realistically be done isn’t “blaming”, and this is a Lemmy comment thread. All there is here is time wasting.
I love Dropout, but consolidating everything under one roof is just not a good idea. Not only are they different teams with different sensibilities, but it’s an unstable industry and if the company with all the “good” content happened to fail, that’d be a disaster.
No shade intended. I was just seeing some art from the new MtG Doctor Who cards and for whatever reason decided to look up what the Menoptra looked like originally and the disparity really cracked me up.
No worries, I’m with you on that! It’s easy to look back and chuckle at the past without context, but I 100% agree that it’s great. The boldness and creativity is impressive and respectable. And without innovations like it, we wouldn’t have the new creations and concepts we have today. The creativity of the past paved the way for the creativity we enjoy today.
