Seems like the feeds are more active and I’m not hitting things with 3 upvotes 20 minutes into my scroll. Did Connect change something, did Lemmy or are we just seeing some population increase from Boost?
There’s also sort by Top (with various time filters), Hot, Active, and Most/New Comments, all of which are very much algorithms. What it doesn’t have is sorting based on user activity, which also isn’t what’s coming in 0.19. What’s being added is basically the same as ‘Hot’, but takes into consideration the activity on the sub, so as to let smaller subs in a user’s feed not be drowned out by more active subs.
Honestly, this doesn’t seem all that far-fetched. It could very well just be the art department being extra diligent with accuracy to the event start date, but the VI does suggest more to it. I suppose everyone will find out next month.

“Get ready to not freak out. On Wednesday, October 4 at 2:20 p.m. ET, every TV, radio and cellphone in the United States should blare out the distinctive, jarring electronic warning tone of an emergency alert.”
Well I didn’t make the post, so no, I couldn’t have. Also, if you have a problem with the rules, take it up with the mods instead of harassing the posters about it. Thirdly, nothing about the post suggested “us-defaultism”. Nobody assumed anything, they just posted the article. That you can’t be bothered to read the article or even look at the source before lashing out suggests you need to look into a mirror before calling others idiots.
For me it’s not the speed, but the quantity. Docking? Loading screen. Launching off planet? Loading screen. Changing planet? Loading screen. Landing on the same planet? Loading screen. The only solution is to fast travel everywhere in an “immersive” space sim RPG. NMS and Elite:Dangerous have solved this issue. Bethesda needs to get with the times already.

“I do think, though”, he concedes, “we have stumbled, and it feels like stumbling on a mechanic that has never been seen in a game before.”
“And a lot of this is very mystical because I’m trying to avoid to tell you what it’s like. But it’s going to be a lot more like a kind of Fable - Black and White - Dungeon Keeper kind of experience”
It could, sure, but I’m positive the only reason he’s making it is because of blockchain. I seriously doubt Pete was rolling around a game idea for online real estate separately and just threw blockchain in as a way to get funding.
Think about it. Isn’t light+eyes and ears+sound just the same in terms of their “influence at a distance”? We don’t feel that as abnormal or magic - simply because we’ve sensors for them and are used to it. But physically speaking light and magnetism are based on electromagnetic forces.
Why in the world would they themselves describe that as just a “wedgie”? With the assumption that the latter description is accurate and can be corroborated with a medical professional, that’s a massive misnomer that seriously misrepresents what happened.
The McGuinness’ suit categorizes the experience as a “painful wedgie,” and alleges that she “suffered severe and permanent bodily injury including severe vaginal lacerations, a full thickness laceration causing Plaintiff’s bowel to protrude through her abdominal wall, and damage to her internal organs.”

The solution is the dissolution of the private corporations deciding how the main (read: only) two parties in our country operate. Dianne only won because she was the Democratic candidate, and she got that because the DNC made it so. If there were more rigorous competition, I’m quite sure she would’ve been replaced a long time ago.
I was honestly pretty surprised that they don’t want to try anyone else considering how much everyone else hates Trump
In their eyes, that’s one of his best features. The Republican party’s singular common goal these days is to be as contrarian as possible, and the angrier everyone else is with them, the better they figure they’re doing.
In those workers’ defense, the delivery companies spent hundreds of millions of dollars on a disinformation campaign to trick the public into thinking that voting for 22 was in their own interest.
Probably the single easiest proof that the companies see the proposed changes as a threat to their bottom line. They’re not spending that much money for their workers, they believe it’ll cost less to sway opinion than it would to change policy. That people still buy into the bs is really disheartening.
Fwiw, you have to add another break between each line if you want them to be separated. Or you could add a dash or numbers and a period before each line to make a list.
President Joe Biden on Tuesday joined a picket line with striking autoworkers in Michigan, supporting their call for a 40% pay raise and saying they deserve a “lot more” than they are getting....
In what way? You get 2 Designated Love Interests depending on your chosen gender - 1 for gay, 1 for not, and I suppose both for bi. And 1 non-relationship “fling” that I can remember. Seems pretty mild imo for a game that hypes up it’s own “hypersexuality” so much.
Also, side point, did anyone else find it super weird that the Designated Love Interests act exactly the same regardless of their designated compatability until “the moment” where they shut you down if you try anything? Found it pretty awkward when it felt like River was flirting with me the whole time, and he’s not even into dudes.
It’s certainly more than most games, but I was expecting less rigidity at the very least. It feels so checkboxy and limiting for a setting that’s meant to be so unrestricted.
What a coincidence that he’s got a movie that’s “fighting back” checks watch oh right about now! 🙄
Not only is this ridiculous (and untrue) fearmongering about the death of “real cinema” from an old man scared for his own relevance, it’s such blatant self-promotion it’s sickening. Dude would be better served being silent and maintaining his (admittedly deserved) reputation and prestige in the art form instead of tarnishing it with foolish declarations like this.
First, I never said he was irrelevant. I said he’s scared that he is. Second, past accomplishments don’t negate current or future accountability for dumb statements like his.
Big money has always and will always chase success. That some people don’t like the current trends doesn’t mean it’s the downfall of the industry, and it doesn’t mean things were better or different in the past. And why should we be bothered about trends anyway? Indy film has been killing it for ages now and anybody that’s worth listening to is looking there for innovation, not at profit driven studios.
As many people have pointed out, if all the money gets spent on ironman 72, movies like pulp fiction can’t be funded.
Good things that’s not happening! Again, that you and others aren’t happy with current trends doesn’t mean the industry is dying, or even that it’s objectively worse than it was. Is it really that surprising that the trends today aren’t the same as they were 40 years ago? And in 40 more years, there’ll be entirely different trends. Change is inevitable and fearmongering about it is just pointless. Find the good in it and celebrate the continued success of cinema instead of wallowing in a miserable yearning for something that’s moved on.
Doesn’t matter if it’s not a new thing for trash media to exist, I can still dislike it
Ok? If you read my comments, you might see that my point isn’t that people aren’t allowed to dislike things, though I would recommend against it when it only serves to make them needlessly pessimistic about anything and everything.
Gotcha. Yeah, vertical integration, such as studios owning theaters, has been a longstanding back-and-forth struggle in film. Most dramatically seen back in the “Golden Age” where studios basically owned the whole process, from actors to theaters. Even if we’re swinging back towards studio domination (or are already there), the Internet really changes things to the point I don’t think it’s gonna be the downfall of anything. Distribution is simply too easy to be entirely dominated by established studios like it was before.
In my view, the problem isn’t monetizing an instance, but that ads right now are fundamentally problematic. I don’t know of a way to introduce ads that wouldn’t be intrusive, invade user privacy, introduce bad motives for admins, and just be generally unpleasant. If money is a problem, I think a subscriber model would be better suited for the platform rather than taking any step to normalize ads.
