do you all like to play the GOG version of games over the Steam version?

With the use of Heroic game launcher, I’m wondering if you all preferred to play your GOG version of games over the Steam version. I can go either way but sometimes I pause and think, having two copies of the same game, one on steam and one on GOG, which one would give me a better gaming experience. For example, I may choose...

dwindling7373,

What made you choose not to care any less about achievements?

dwindling7373,

And that’s why I set my elders up with uBlock.

dwindling7373,

Is that in theory or tried and true? I never seriously attempted it because I was afraid one of the two sides (mostly Windows) would just go crazy and fuck everything up.

dwindling7373,

Those lines are taken from recordings of Giambruno’s conversations with colleagues in between takes of the show he used to host.

The conversation was far from being what one would consider consensual and he is now been suspended and investigated for sexual harassment.

dwindling7373,

Who is upvoting this? Russell’s Paradox is about groups containing all the members that don’t belong to said group.

Not the Onion hosting an article about the effect of The Onion is humorously close to that.

dwindling7373,

It’s one of my biggest criticism. The premise push you toward minimizing the rest, and so does the gameplay (because it would be silly to just heal for free al the time, right?).

Turns out, I slept too little and I have so little development that required me to sleep to have them happen :(

dwindling7373,

Since when are such kind of product placement moves valid argument about the reality of a company?

By the way this isn’t even a PR move, this is Branding as in actions meant to change the sentiment associated with the brand Riot Games.

dwindling7373,

I have RetroPi that can run Kodi inside of it.

Ask Lemmy: Traditional vs natural mouse scrolling; which do you use?

Despite being a heavy cell phone user for more than 25 years, it only recently occurred to me that vertical navigation on most phones is inverted when compared to traditional computers. You swipe down to navigate upward, and up to navigate downward. I recently spent time using a MacBook, which apparently defaults to this...

dwindling7373,

That’s literally the same principle. And yes, before you ask, it’s dumb for both axes.

Up is up, down is down.

dwindling7373,

It is, if you consider the motion about the bottom part of the stick, when you push forward, that part moves backward. The same can be said about pushing right, and having the bottom going left.

Why would you want that? No idea, since even on planes the x axes are not inverted like that…

dwindling7373,

At that point she’s is not his daughter in the script itself. And he is not absurdly powerful as portrayed later by fans and prequels.

He’s an angry evil space monk.

dwindling7373,

Wait since when a monopoly is preferable to a duopoly? As far as I’m concerned if I can’t have 0 companies to spy on me I’d rather have them all fight each others in the data space…

dwindling7373,

I stll hate hard games, luckily Hades is not among them.

dwindling7373,

It’s 2023: if we get along as long as I know their name or have any common friend, I just look them up and add them.

dwindling7373,

I don’t think so, in a world where strangers add you all the time, possibly to harass you, a familiar face adding you is a very welcomed occurrence, as far as I know. Personally I never got any “rejection” on that front, but I’m sure it may change wildly from one demographic to the next.

has your YouTube consumption decreased after implementing the "no history, no recommendations" feature?

I noticed my consumption has decased quite a bit. I would visit regularly to watch content from few channels. I would probably still visit every so often to watch the new videos. But the experience has become more deliberate and conscious. I go to YouTube because I want to go and watch something specific. Mindlessly browsing and...

dwindling7373,

Not really, I like what I like because I like it. I no longer binge mindlessly, I just binge mindfully. I’m using Freetube for many years now.

dwindling7373,

Aren’t bridges meant to prevent that?

dwindling7373,

This is not lateral thinking.

Personal Justifications for different phone life cycles (kbin.social)

Yesterday, I was reading a thread that asked what's the point of buying a new phone as often as as people do. In the comments there were a variety of answers, but what interested me is that there were a wide variety of answers for how long each person liked to go before upgrading. So I've attempted to come up with justifications...

dwindling7373,

It sounds exceptionally not scientific.

dwindling7373,

He never claimed to be looking for rhetorical efficacy.

Speaking or rhetoric, yours is dumb. The implicit consumerism underlying such practices obviously extends beyond phones and in all fields of consumerism.

What's a good ratio of socialization with a long distance relationship suddenly closing up?

I have a particular limitation when it comes socially. I perform fantastically in person, but I have absolutely no social sense when it comes online. My best opportunities are a board game night meetup and some chance meetups at an arcade nearby on the weekends. I am neither old, Christian, or a drinker, hence the limited...

dwindling7373,

Why are you living in a place where if you are not old, Christian or a drinker you don’t get to have a normal life?

dl.google.com/…/platform-tools-latest-windows.zip

xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linu…

It’s basically remote command line control for android, from your PC.

You can backup stuff, copy stuff, install stuff…

dwindling7373,

Probably they knew but they tried to save face by putting up a show.

dwindling7373,

In my experience… Every stadium I’ve been to had a very vocal and visible far right presence.

dwindling7373,

What do you mean “not on a human scale”? In your lifetime? Arguably not, on a human scale, absolutely yes.

dwindling7373,

Funnily enough I caught a guy in Pompei touching the frescos. I’m a mild guy but I couldn’t help but think that, as far as mankind is involved, killing that idiot on the spot would have have a net positive impact on the world.

Beginner's guide to AidenLx's Zotero Plugin (moved from Reddit)

I had a really hard time finding any beginner friendly info on AidenLx's Zotero plugin despite it potentially being the end-all zotero plugin, so I have written up a summarized guide to it on github here with all the information I could find distilled into a single page for how to use it and how to start making templates....

dwindling7373,

Sounds cool but you forgot to mention what it does for us humans.

dwindling7373,

Isn't the "proper" way to deal with this just some kind of feature that ties defederation with the appropriate purging of your db?

Even some kind of unfederatable purge feature would work.

Of course the bottom line is malicious admins, but it's just the same as malicious companies. Or anything else really...

dwindling7373,

Silver.

Pretty much made special by the simple fact that I played it as a kid. To be fair I think it has some objective values in the fighting system, the voice acting, the quirkiness of it all, but I'm not sure it's enough to suggest people to go and play it nowadays.

dwindling7373,

This kind of game.

It's an isometric action rpg, I guess? Fantasy setting, evil wizard/emperor, wife kidnapped, you join the rebels, travel the world looking for allies and growing stronger until the final encounter TM.

Speaking of Pokemon, the magic system is pretty cool because just like Pokemon, grass monsters are weak to fire and so on. Also one of the elements is "Time".

I think it's just neat.

dwindling7373,

I think that game is still unmatched in many regards (ok, maybe except for Gothic 2).

dwindling7373,

I forgot the actual answer: Shufflepack Café. It came in a bunch of floppy disk my father brought home from the office alongside a Macintosh.

The game is airhockey, where your mouse is, well, a pad you move to hit the puck but for some weird and very creative reason it was all set as some kind of dystopian nightmare.

In a few frame at startup the game tells you you are lost, it's raining, you enter a bar and it's full of monsters and the bartender is a robot.

As a kid that shit was scary and I never challenged most of the more scary characters out of fear (they were also very strong, each one of them had their playstyle and tricks).

I think I saw some kind of emulation of it floating online once but I didn't save it, if anybody can find it it would be great. I'd 100% play it again.

dwindling7373,

That’s the neat part… he doesn’t.

dwindling7373,

Can hyou point me on some good material to learn about them? I've been reading about those for years but never crossed a guide...

dwindling7373,

Thanks, it's very useful, sadly it looks a bit like the stuff of nightmare prone to breaking at the worst possible moment...

dwindling7373,

It’s called voting. Most people do that.

Tip culture is an obvious moral blackmail. While being against it I tend to go with it in countries that struggle moving past slavery.

To a certain extent if everybody stopped tipping things would change probably faster than by any political mean anyway.

Should the ChrisTitus Ultimate Windows Utility be officially recommended on Privacy Guides? (christitus.com)

Just wanna take a moment to let people know about a very, very good and reputable tool for privacy and windows. I personally think it should be recommended on the main Privacy Guides site if you use windows. This is not a substitute for using Linux, however....

dwindling7373,

I’ve been using this for a while: www.w10privacy.de/english-home/

I’m kinda sure this was recommended on the old PrivacyGuides website.

Are there any RTSes with no scrolling. Just display the entire map really small all at once?

It seems like it could be an interesting format on large screens these days.

dwindling7373,

In Total Commander / Bejond All Reason apparently good players spend most of the match in a very zoomed out tactical map.

In general I think the Total Commander genre is one of the few that allows a somewhat usable total view. Another good candidate would be Homeworld, since there microng is not that important so you can probably play a whole game on the starmap.

Other cheating answer would include… Very small old rts on modern screens. I think a smallsized AoE II map on original resolution would fit on 4k panel…
