bighi,

I don’t care about bloating. But it would be sending even more of my data to their servers, using AI as an excuse.

What are some productive things to do when you wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep for a few hours?

I’m looking for suggestions that zombie-me could follow through with. The problem is I can barely bring myself to get out of bed, let alone do a useful task. It just wastes typically 2–5 hours of my life as I wait for tiredness to finally (re)take hold.

bighi,

You work to strengthen unions and take down capitalism.

bighi,

Let’s go further. Let’s have worker-owned everything.

Worker-owned factories, stores, restaurants, etc. Worker-owned government!

Let’s cut out the people that do not work, but take 90% of the revenue.

bighi,

Just because CO announced, a few days early, that they were releasing an unoptimized mess, shouldn’t people complain about it being an unoptimized mess?

We should never think it’s okay for companies to release underdeveloped, unfinished games.

bighi,

I don’t think anyone would overlook one of the most mentioned features everywhere for the past three months.

bighi,

My experience is the opposite. While there were bad DLCs, most of them were awesome.

bighi,

To be honest, I’d prefer for them to keep expanding a game I like. That’s what kept me playing SC1 for the past 65 years (or however long it has been since the game has been released).

bighi,

Making games is always complicated. If you “release and forget” people complain. If you keep supporting a game for a decade people complain.

bighi,

They’re the ones that make the games!

If it was me talking about Pikachu games, I could talk about chance. But them? They decide if there will be a new game or not.

Did you find Tear of the Kingdom difficult?

I played BotW a lot, and really loved it. I feel like the beginning of the game was relatively easy compared to TotK, I died a few times trying out things, discovering the game and possibilities ; in TotK I died a lot and still do even with good gear and armour (1*-2* armors, 30-40+ damage weapons). You could say it’s skill...

bighi,

I found it easier than BotW. I died here and there, but I never thought any part was impossible to beat. I’m not a pro player, I’m a middle aged guy with a small family.

But in both games, combat is by far the worst thing in the game.

Maybe you didn’t upgrade your armors enough?

bighi,

If playing a game is fun I’ll have fun. If playing it is not fun, I’ll not have fun.

I don’t take grading systems in consideration. Just like the color of the protagonist’s shirt doesn’t affect my fun.

bighi,

I’ve never seen any social commentary content from them. I haven’t watched everything they do, but can’t be that common if I haven’t seen it yet.

bighi, (edited )
  • interactive widgets
  • widgets on the desktop
  • option to disable mouse acceleration (finally!!)
  • support for hearing aids (I’ve been waiting for this one for years)
  • can now change text size per app
  • other apps can access passwords, so you can finally use your Safari passwords on chrome

And these are only the OS changes that I care about. I’m sure there are more.

bighi,

So our options should be to accept a company that prevents us from using 100% of OUR phones, or choosing the crappy competitor?

That’s a lose-lose scenario. Why would anyone defend it?

bighi,

You’re thinking of technically taking the decisions in the company. But shareholders can do much more. Like influencing the value of stocks by selling too many at once.

bighi,

The amount of ethics of any leader is irrelevant in capitalism. The system itself demands the creation of monopolies and constant growth. If you try to be a good person, some other company will “win the race” and take you out of the competition one way or another.

Expecting or demanding ethics of people is trying to fix the wrong problem, while the solution is toppling the entire system.

bighi,

Non-compete clauses should be illegal (or done like in Denmark, like the example of our fellow commenter here)

bighi,

It’s called knowledge, and it’s not fair to prevent people from using their knowledge.

Apple already have their patents. That’s what patents are for! The startup can’t do exactly what Apple did, or they would be sued. The startup will have to use their knowledge to create NEW tech, and that’s an excellent result.

bighi,

All of that has been predicted by Marx since the 19th century. And he already created a better system.

bighi,

They’re illegal in the country I live in. I mostly meant they should be illegal basically everywhere.

bighi,

If we say “not pro repair” is “anti-repair”, we lose the meaning of what being anti-repair is.

Both are not helping the consumer, but one much more than the other.

bighi,

Because people buy the game anyway. So why stop?

bighi,

I have never even heard my joycons vibrating unless they’re vibrating against a solid surface like a table or the floor.

Unity ...It Just Keeps Get Worse (youtu.be)

To say it’s been a bad week for Unity is the understatement of 2023. First they announced a terrible new Pricing scheme, then their customers revolted, as the week goes on though, it gets worse and worse for Unity, from threats from an employee shutting down their offices, to more studios threatening to leave, to scummy secret...

bighi,

If we don’t get together and destroy capitalism itself, we WILL get another Unity every few years.

bighi,

Animals have rights in almost every country in the world.

bighi,

You’re missing what they said.

bighi,

Why wouldn’t they?

Before this law, I mean.

bighi,

More countries should do that. And should also ban Facebook-owned apps, TikTok, and other spyware on those official phones.

bighi,

Look at it another way.

If they’re keeping their head above water, even barely, it means they are keeping their head above water. Without delivering a product. For YEARS.

They’re earning money by selling empty promises year after year. Not a lot of money. They’ll never become billionaires from this game. But there are lots of people in there (mainly executives and CEO and whatever) earning a decent salary. On empty promises! It’s as close to a scam that it can be without being illegal.

bighi,

And asked for more

bighi,

Their laying people off mean that the honest workers are losing something. But the actual scammers, the people at the top, they’re still there.

They lay people off because they don’t want to reduce their own salaries.

bighi,

Your comment doesn’t make sense. There’s no relation between a grid and standing out in the open. With free movement, if you order the character to finish their movement in the open, they’re going to be out in the open.

And I also don’t see the relation between grids and “sliding”.

bighi,

Exactly. If you can’t afford an expensive lawyer, the US wants you to lose.

Actually, it’s not only that they want you to lose. It wants the entire system to be so expensive that you can’t even afford to go to court and lose. You have to settle, and don’t have a lot of power determining the terms.

bighi,

Isn’t a warning good for that, though?

A warning helps you make an informed decision.

bighi,

If there’s no label, the option to not ignore it isn’t even there.

If you guys are really in favor of adults being able to make their own informed decisions, hiding important warnings is not the way to go. Or maybe you just want to complain, like many other people.

Make up your mind.

bighi, (edited )

Doesn’t that mean that for you the wait is even longer?

You’re not getting it on release date like most people, you’ll get it at least a year later.

bighi,

I don’t know if you’re kidding, but that would be a very weird law.

bighi,

I don’t know if something that oppressive is going to be true in many countries.

Maybe only in oppressive countries like China and the US, and a few others.

bighi,

Late to the party? Wasn’t the game released a few days ago?

bighi,

I have quit from more than 10 companies (i’m old), and I’d say that 100% of the time the reason was shitty managers.

But “A raise in pay” would be the best solution to convince to me stay.

bighi,

It hasn’t been announced yet. Up to this point, everyone is just guessing.

bighi,

People have been talking about the real problem from the beginning of the thread: small character limit on file paths.

bighi,

Only if you go into settings, disable the safety measures and change it. And some apps might break.

No, the default file path limit is 256 characters. And I don’t mean file name. Full file path.

bighi,

I remember I had to change a setting when using Windows. And it even showed me an “Are you sure?” dialog. It wasn’t that long ago. Is that not a thing anymore?
