Please do not suggest people to use Manjaro.

Manjaro’s maintainers have repeatedly:

  • Let SSL certs expire, asking end users to turn back their system clock until they fixed it.
  • Told users to make partial updates which often causes packages to break, including mandatory rollbacks on critical packages such as systemd
  • Held back packages for ~1-2 weeks to improve stablity, but does not do this for all packages, including the AUR, which causes dependency hell and breakage.
  • Rolled out an edit to a AUR package that repeatedly sent requests to aur.archlinux.org which made the servers experience a DDOS attack, impacting all users.

I am not saying this to hate on Manjaro, but to inform OP and others. If they want a stable yet fresher distro, they should choose something more like Fedora or Ubuntu. If they want something rolling, Arch includes an installer in its iso that is really simple to understand.

androgyne is a kind of presentation like feminine and masculine, an androgynous presenting person can’t be clearly read as male or female by binary thinking folks.

bigender is when you have two genders.

Also reminder that gender and presentation dont have to overlap (there are trans masc femboys).

Suggestions for an iOS News app (or way) that doesn't track (much) data ?

Hi there, I’m quite new to this digital hygiene thing. I try to avoid apps on my phone that tracks useless data for their initial purpose. How do you guys read news ? Would love a “respectful” app that doesn’t track too much data, but I’m open to any solution. Would like to browse international and french news.

Where to get Minecraft for Arch Linux from?

Arrrr my fellow pirates. Since I’m very unexperienced with the seas I ask for you guys, where can I get Minecraft from for Arch Linux. It’s not because I’m not willing to pay 20€ but because Microsoft is a giant bitch and I’m not willing to put money in their mouth(especially after they changed their privacy policy).

GitHub is the most mainstream, Gitlab has the most features and is selfhostable, Gitea has fewer features, but is more lightweight for selfhosting. Both Gitlab and Gitea are also working on federation.

I don’t know about the others.

I had a dream about windows and have decided to setup Linux on my laptop. What distro should I use?

I used Ubuntu once a few years ago but had compatability issues so I went back to windows. Not a great programmer but I’d like to learn. I’m not looking to do much gaming beyond DOOM2 and factorio. Mostly looking for privacy and a way to get back into programming (I have this pipe dream of learning Assembly). I’m not to...

Ubuntu is a good starting point.

You can follow the general idea of: “Are you new to Linux? If yes, use something you know other people know too. If no, use whatever the fuck you want, heck, make your own distro if you want”.

I’d say try whatever looks good to you, you can always install something else if you don’t like it, as long as it isn’t Manjaro. (backup your data before you install something new)

Some distros that I think are a pretty good choice for starters (no particular order):

  • Pop!_OS
  • Ubuntu
  • Fedora
  • Endeavour OS
  • Linux Mint
  • openSUSE Tumbleweed

You can also use Distrochooser to maybe help you make a decision.

Not a great programmer but I’d like to learn.

That’s alright, you don’t have to be a programmer to use Linux. You don’t even have to use the command line if you don’t want to (tho I recommend it, getting good at it feels pretty great).

Versatile and convenient YT client?

I’m on Linux mint, and I’ve been wanting to reorganize and clean out my online footprint for a while now, starting with Youtube. I was saying that there are many Arch-based distros that are essentially Arch (down to the repos sometimes), but with a (graphical) installer and rice, and that Spiral Linux seems like exactly that but replace Arch with Debian.

KDE Neon / Pipewire issues when gaming

Hi guys! So I seem to have audio issues. Audio will mute for like 5 seconds every 20 seconds or so. It’s very annoying, as it can make you miss whole parts of dialog. It only happens on linux, and only on gaming, so I guess it means the amp/surround system is ok. I use the TV HDMI output for audio, as it gets redirected to the...

You might be able to get an AUX extension cord for cheap at your local tech store. Would be suboptimal, but for anything better, you might need to rearrange your setup.
