You999,

S3RL is a pedophile. If you ever get a chance ask jole what DNA Lounge has to do with being forced to stop doing live shows.

You999,

Doing that in the states would be illegal. Our payload and towing capacity are calculated differently which vastly drops the ammount you are legally allowed to carry. For example a jeep wrangler in Europe has a towing capacity of 5000Lb (2300Kg) but the same exact jeep in the states can only tow 3500Lb (1600kg)

You999,

Speeds are a per state basis however a good chunk of them do in fact have separate speed limits for vehicles with trailers. For example, California limits vehicles with three or more axles to 55 MPH (88kph).

You999,

Maybe for those audio engineerings who end up on the mastering side of things but those who go down the live sound systems engineer path definitely deserves the same level of respect as any other engineering profession.

Why didn't anyone remind me the dual booting exists?

I was talking to my dad yesterday and he talked about how he dual booted windows and Linux in his college days. I immediately left to download Ubuntu, I feel so dumb for forgetting it’s an option. I literally only use windows so I can play Fortnite with friends. PSA: you can have both Linux and Windows, or you can use a vm in...

You999,

Proper vGPU would be so much better if nvidia weren’t twats. Anyways if you use proxmox you can unlock vGPU support for most consumers GPUs using this script

You999,

It is useful to have lots of stupid laws. It makes people feel powerless and frustrated. It means the police can always find excuses to persecute you.

How many laws does the US have again?

You999,

Mixx is alright if you are a bedroom dj but it’s still a long way from the completion

You999,

ZFS will do block level deduplication but requires a large table be stored in ram. The issue arises that the cost to increase your ram to keep up with that table size usually ends up being a lot more than just adding more storage.

I do believe most games have an inflated size due to uncompressed assets being included which a file system level compression could help with so long as you have the CPU to spare.

You999,

And that is why VLANs are amazing. Can’t phone home if it can’t connect to the internet.

You999,

UV-c lights are actually much cheaper than UV black lights as they don’t require the phosphor coating required to block the harmful frequencies. On top of that there was a flood of UV-c bulbs onto the market from the pandemic.

What really should have tipped them off that they are using bulbs is that UV-c bulbs emit a more blue color whereas black lights emit a purple color. Or the wierd smell emitting from the ozone coming off the bulbs.

You999,

We have flying cars, they are called airplanes or more specifically civil utility aircraft. You know, like the Cessna 172.

Flying vehicles aren’t more mainstream because of the cost. A new plane can cost over half a million dollars while a used plane can easily be over a hundred thousand dollars. And that’s just the cost of the plane.

The other reason is because the rules are more strict and are actually enforced. If a pilot flew their plane like the average person drives their car they would be sitting in jail await trail for attempt murder.

You999,

The Webster dictionary defines a car as a vehicle that moves on wheels which airplanes definitely are.

You can have your airplane in your driveway (or more commonly your grage). They are called fly-in communities and are more common than you think.

You999,

Which is exactly why you should use your 3D printer as a 2D plotter to print things.

You999,

Right now RISc-V has the same problem that ARM has in that anything that is affordable is pretty much only single board computers. Luckily for RISc-V someone made a list of all the SBCs krimsky.net/articles/riscvsbc.html

You999,

Kenya give me a hint on what the joke is?

You999,

You won’t but I will

Switch: mikrotik CRS504-4XQ-IN ($799.99) Cabling: QSFP28 to 4 x 25G SFP28 DAC ($63.00 per cable) NICs: Intel XXV710 25GB ($349.0)

I don’t know how many machines you have so for two machine it’s cost you $1562.97 and maxing out the switch would cost you $6651.83 but do you really have sixteen machines that need or can even physically saturate a 25GB line?

I think it’s more reasonable to get something similar to ubiquiti’s USW-Pro-Aggregation and have three machines capable of the full speed and 28 machines capable of half rate speeds (at a much lower cost per machine)

You999,

Both switches mentioned are L3 switches meaning they are a routers too.

You999,

Well this is getting into the weeds a bit but TLDR it depends on the L3 switch.

For the mikrotik switch I mentioned, it runs the same RouterOS v7 as their actual routers. Anything you can do on a single purpose router you can do on the switch albeit at a slower speed for applications as the CPU in the switch isn’t as good.

For the ubiquiti switch… I’m not actually sure as ubiquiti’s L3 implementation is not exactly ideal (bordering on broken depending on who you ask)

You999,

You999,

Arguable the case for purchasing a brand new vehicle starts to make more sense as BEV become the majority as the batteries are a consumable that degrades with use and time. So long as the increased price is offset by the longer utilization of that battery.

You999,

The problem with replacing individual cells is you’ll end up with cells with different wear levels which means different discharge rates and capacities (max voltage). The battery management system can mitigate some of the problems that arise but can only do that while chargering. While the battery is in use or sits for an extented period of time the cells will try to level out the voltage difference causing loss in capacity and a potential fire risk if the cells are too out of balanced.

Replacing the battery with new better batteries isn’t really an option either as any significant increase in power density would be from a change in battery chemistry and that would also require changing out the on board charging circuit and related systems. There’s also the issue that the majority of charge points providers state in their TOS that the use of any aftermarket parts or modifications to your battery or charger is forbidden so you are essential blacklisted from using any DC fast charger.

You999,

Just get one that is supported by N.U.T and have N.U.T handle your shutdowns.

You999,

There’s some great testimonies from exit node operators out there. Basically it’s only a matter of time before some form of police knock on your door and ask questions but depending on your jurisdiction you won’t be liable for the traffic.

Your IP will be added to most spam block lists which (unjustly) adds the master list of exit nodes so do not use your home internet connection to host an exit node.

You999,

Chicago used to have an underground subway system just for freight www.lib.uchicago.edu/…/chicagos-freight-tunnels/

What new modifications do you expect to see in the EV hot rodding scene?

Specifically ev, and specifically aftermarket modifications. Whether it’s a custom shop offering a package that you could have installed, or a backyard tinkerer coming up with a new trick to make their EV ratrod faster, what do you think will be done in the future that hasn’t been done yet?...

You999,

It really depends on the platform and manufacturer lock downs. Over volting the motors could be an avenue for increased performance at the cost of range.

Motor and battery swaps are entirely possible however are fairly expensive while requiring a pretty good understanding of electrical engineering.

Right now the big thing is to swap electric powertrains into vintage chassis.

You999,

Motors will be more popular to swap as most vehicles use the batteries as part of the sub frame and there’s less of a risk of fire if the BMS or charging circuit does not agree.

Electric motors are also easy to obtain as they are used in applications outside of vehicles meaning the only difficult part are mounting, cooling, and geting the motor talking to the car’s controller (there are aftermarket controllers for tesla motors already available)

You999,

F450s are everywhere you just don’t know they are F450s. Things like dump trucks, tow trucks, ambulances, box trucks, etc are built on top of the F450.

You999,

This is a WAYYYYYY better insensitive for everyone than offering free charging at charge points. It should move people who could charge at home but do not in order to save money back to their home charger freeing up DC fast chargers for those who actually need it.

You999,

The problem with battery trains is that locomotives hardly sit around long enough to charge unless it’s some sort of switcher or in for maintenance. Really the only use case for battery locomotives outside of switchers is passenger service where it’s fairly common for a train to sit for eight plus hours. Amtrak and Siemens are actually doing this with 15 of the new airo trainsets which will run on the empire line. The trainsets will specifically run on battery while within the new York city tunnels where diesel locomotives are only allowed to operate under emergency.

You999,

The duo should had never existed anyways. MS should had kept all the RnD in the neo…

You999,

I’ve tried odoo and while I like it, a lot of the accounting side of things is lock behind a pay wall although there are third party plug ins that accomplish the same tasks.

Once I have more free time I’m going to test out Erpnext as it’s 100% open source with no pay walls if you self host it.

You999,

If you use ESXI as your hypervisor then you could use their virtual machine package to see if you like it. bitnami.com/stack/erpnext/virtual-machine

I do recommend manually installing it yourself if you end up liking it so you can understand how all the gears mesh together if you ever have to troubleshoot.

US broadband grant rules shut out small ISPs and municipalities, advocates say (arstechnica.com)

The biggest Internet service providers will dominate a $42.45 billion broadband grant program unless the Biden administration changes a rule requiring grant recipients to obtain a letter of credit from a bank, according to a joint statement from consumer advocacy groups, local government officials, and advocates for small ISPs....

You999,

There’s also astound (formally wave) offering gigabit+ in Seattle.

You999,

Mini splits air conditioners (the one on the right) have some major advantages over central air.

With central air there’s one big condenser and evaporator for the whole house and dampers are used to block the chilled/heated air to zones that aren’t requesting for air. Since all the zones share the same air source, the more zones that need heated/cooled the slower it’ll take. This system also prevents one zone from requesting heating while another requests cooling as the system can only do one at a time.

Now with mini splits each zone gets it’s own condenser and evaporator meaning each zone is free to heat/cool to each zones needs and airflow isn’t effected by other zones. The biggest reason why mini splits are better though is because if there is an issue you’ll only lose one zone instead of the entire HVAC as you would with a central unit.

Linux 6.6 To Better Protect Against The Illicit Behavior Of NVIDIA's Proprietary Driver (www.phoronix.com)

Luis Chamberlain sent out the modules changes today for the Linux 6.6 merge window. Most notable with the modules update is a change that better builds up the defenses against NVIDIA’s proprietary kernel driver from using GPL-only symbols. Or in other words, bits that only true open-source drivers should be utilizing and not...

You999,

The Linux community is literally Nvidia’s biggest market. The current Linux market share in data centers is currently estimated to be 77%.

Linux 6.5 Released With AMD P-State EPP Default, USB4 v2, MIDI 2.0 and More Hardware Bits (www.phoronix.com)

Linux 6.5 has many great features from the AMD P-State EPP driver default rather than ACPI CPUFreq for Zen 2 and newer supported AMD Ryzen systems, initial USB4 v2 enablement, initial MIDI 2.0 kernel driver work, more Intel hybrid CPU tuning, and a whole lot more....

You999,

From my understanding, the old acpi only allowed for the kernel to request three levels of voltage/frequency on zen2 based CPUs. The new P-state driver allows for finer grain control of the voltage/frequency which may lead to a lower power draw and faster clocks for a given task.

You999,

I know you are saying Google doesn’t have to worry about redundancy to simplify the math but I think that makes it completely useless.

Redundancy is not just about having another copy incase of data loss but more importantly for enterprises redundancy allows for more throughput. If each video was on a single hard drive the site would not be able to function as even the fastest multi actuator hard drive can only do 524 MB/s in a perfect vacuum.

You999,

I’ve spent the last two weeks on getting a k3s cluster working and I’ve had nothing but problems but it has been a great catalysts for learning new tools like ansible and load balancers. I finally got the cluster working last night. If anyone else is having wierd issues with the cluster timing out ETCD needs fast storage. Moving my VMs from my spinning rust to a cheap SSD fixed all my problems.

American Airlines sues Skiplagged, claiming cheap tickets are ‘classic bait and switch’ (www.dallasnews.com)

“Skiplagging” — or booking a flight with a layover to skip the last leg of travel — is a common hack for travelers who don’t want to pay for a direct flight or who to save money on airfare to a connecting destination. Airlines contend the practice results in lost revenue for seats on planes.

You999,

Yes, even if your aren’t skip lagging it’s really easy to travel without checking a bag. 40L backpacks fit five days of clothes and toiletries while still meeting most airline carry on requirements.

You999,

Coming from someone who very much endorses amtrak and passenger rail, I think someone is abusing our tax dollars to make six figure jobs for their friends or family. Just look how much money is going into repeatedly studying if the stampede pass would be a viable passenger rail line.

2023-2024 $150,000

2020 $250,000

You999,

I’d say replace your current server with a larger one that can pull double duty as a NAS and VM host. There are plenty of SFF nas cases on the market now.

You999,

The classic choice would be fractal design’s node 304 which fits six 3.5" drive in an ITX form factor. There’s also Silverstone’s CS381 which while being larger can fit eight hotswappable 3.5" drives and a micro atx motherboard.

Even if you go ITX you don’t have to feel limited by the lack of PCIe slots. Since m.2 uses the PCIe protocol it’s very easy to adapt it to your needs such as to an additional PCIe 4x slot. There are even m.2 10GBe cards in both intel and Realtek flavors.

Side question, what coral TPU do you have because it was my understanding that they use m.2, mini pcie, or USB and not the full size pcie slot?
