Rodeo,

actual individuality

Man if you think buying a product is what makes individuality, you’ve got bigger problems than a lack of colorful electronics.

Rodeo,

And look at how much harm this medium has done to the world in addition to all the good.

It is very bittersweet.

Rodeo,

Tech companies … goal isn’t just to recreate something from a sci-fi novel for the sake of it; rather, they are motivated by solving real-world problems.

This is so naively wrong it’s laughable. Ever heard of profit motive?

Rodeo,

That’s always such an ego trip, and the ones to ego trip like that always have bad reputations.

There’s some special irony in a guy being so proud of his name that he plasters it everywhere, all the while oblivious to what his name actually means to people.

Rodeo,

Too bad the regulations to support competition and disband oligarchies is so pathetically weak.

Incidentally, why is it that every gas station in town can fix their prices together? Isn’t price fixing supposed to be illegal?

There is not sufficient regulation to support the hypothesis of competition.

Rodeo,

Actually the term was coined all the way back in the 70s, by Richard Dawkins in his book The Selfish Gene.

It means a cultural gene. It’s a piece of culture that is so pervasive it can be said to be a part of the genetic code of the society. Examples are the smiley face, tic tac toe or other simple common games, that S thing we all drew as kids, etc.

Not all jokes are memes, and not all memes are jokes.

Rodeo,

These are really bad. Please stop.

Rodeo,

Where is the call to move_and_collide? There’s no code here that will translate the position.

Rodeo,

Oh my bad I mistook you for op.

Rodeo, (edited )

I think you need to learn about world transforms and local transforms. My guess is you’re translating along the world Z or the Z of the level instead of the local Z of the plane scene.

Different coordinates spaces: docs.godotengine.org/…/matrices_and_transforms.ht…

Rodeo,

Wow a screenshot and everything.

Donating feels great and all, but showing off that you’ve donated feels 100x better, doesn’t it

Rodeo,

Why do they limit that to non-state actors? Are they giving governments a free pass?

Rodeo,

The RCMP plans to launch a direct recruitment stream for people who want to work in federal policing, one that would send them through a specialized training program and skip the 26 weeks’ instruction at the depot.

So our cops are going to get even less training now?

It takes EIGHT YEARS of training just argue about the law in a court room, but six short months and you can go out and enforce the law with deadly weaponry.

Rodeo,

Any thing is gross if you describe well enough.

Vegetables are the fruiting body of the plant. They arise from the interaction of the sexual parts of the plant. The function of a fruiting body is protect the seeds and provide nourishment, much like the womb and placenta do for a zygote.

Hope you enjoy your plant utereses with unborn babies inside.

Rodeo,

I’m sure you can invent some allegory to body parts for each of those.

Food is only as gross as we make it out to be.

Rodeo,

It doesn’t work on my phone. Also they’re not making it easy to find. It should be a giant link right at the top of every article, instead it’s regular size text buried in the middle of the article.

Rodeo,

Godot has built in CSG that you might use instead of importing primitives from blender.

Do media aggregators have a duty to provide links to public news sources in emergencies? (www.cbc.ca)

The NWT government and city of Yellowknife are describing in tweets, Instagram messages etc. how to search key evacuation information on CPAC and CBC. The broadcast carriers have a duty to carry emergency information, but Meta and X are blocking links....

Rodeo,

There have been court cases and orders in Canada where both Meta and Google have refused to comply with judicial decisions on the grounds that only California and US federal courts have jurisdiction over them.

Got any links for that? That’s pretty juicy.

Rodeo,

This is one thing that just boggles my mind about 3d printers.

How the fuck has no printer maker figured out that four points don’t always make a flat surface? This shits like one of the most basic concepts of mechanical engineering, and yet it appears to be completely absent from 3d printing. Apparently no one in the industry has ever heard even of it.

Rodeo,

This has been a problem since forever with Godot. They like to backport major new features from the development branch to a new minor version of the previous branch. This means the API in the previous branch (3.x right now) is supposedly stable in that it is only extended and not modified. However there are two problems with this:

  1. If you use the new extended API is makes the project bound to that version and you lost backward compatibility. So it becomes the responsibility of the user to keep track of which feature are available in which versions and be conscious of backwards compatibility, instead of just sticking with a major version like you can with basically every other software in existence.
  2. It’s not even true. They modify the existing API and break projects all the time. The movement functions of the kinematic body classes have been changed at least three times during the 3.x cycle.

So you’re right, the API is not stable, but you won’t get far with criticism from a professional software standpoint in the community (have a look at the demographics listed in the recent community poll for some insight as to why).

Ultimately because of the relative instability of the API, I think this tool will be useful.

Rodeo,

From the community info:

3DPrinting is a place where makers of all skill levels and walks of life can learn about and discuss 3D printing and development of 3D printed parts and devices.

This doesn’t appear to be discussing “3D printing and development of 3D printed parts and devices”.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with content being curated to fit the community that’s literally the entire point of communities. Just because someone says this should be on a different community doesn’t make them an incel. It’s called content curation, it’s the whole point of having multiple communities.

Rodeo,

I can call people names and if it’s not true then they shouldn’t be offended!

Seriously?

Rodeo,

Oh, looks like I directed that at the wrong person. My bad. Here’s the comment in question:

Rodeo,

Yeah but now you have a smart plug in your house.

Is the smart plug company going to turn it on in the middle of the night? You’ve just moved the problem from one closed, proprietary technology to a different closed, proprietary technology.

Rodeo,

Yeah but the Prusa is made in Europe and the Bambulabs is made in China.

I’d happily spend an extra $100 to support a European country over china. Fuck china.

Rodeo,
  1. With prusa you don’t support the China and all fucked up shit their government does.
Rodeo,

Hmm that’s a good point. Never seen one for sale that I trusted though, and I did have a good look at one point.

Rodeo,

Most towns are already built on flood plains because historically it was good farmland. Look at the Fraser Valley in BC. Nearly two million people all living on one big flood plain.

Look at the towns around you. Are they built in a wide, flat bottom valley? That’s probably a flood plain. Every town I can think of around me is built in the valley bottom first, then only goes up the hills as development grows over time.

Rodeo,

This really highlights just how subjective “paycheck to paycheck” is.

Lot of people out there who can’t afford to pay for their spouse’s school but still wouldn’t call themselves paycheck to paycheck.

Rodeo,

How much time are you people losing to this? It takes me less than a second to find my cursor again.

Rodeo,

I’ve never bothered with private trackers, what benefits do they actually provide?

Rodeo,

Now I absolutely need to see this shoplifting community. Please post a link.

Rodeo,

Hosting is the legal issue. Linking to illegal content that somebody else is hosting is much harder to tackle legally, which is why isohunt was around for so long despite being based in the US. IIRC they shut down not because they lost any lawsuits but because they just couldn’t afford the legal battle.

Rodeo,

Now we need one that does that and is available on FDroid.

Rodeo,

If that keeps the normies out then it’s a win.

Rodeo,

Why don’t you just block the communities yourself?

You have the ability to do that, but instead you’re demanding that the instance admins take the choice away from you?

This is some nanny state shit. It’s like saying “I don’t want to see morally qiestionable things like drag shows, the government should ban them!” Like just block it and don’t fucking go there if you don’t want to see it. Don’t advocate for taking the choice away from everyone.

Rodeo,

Ah, you got me

Rodeo,

So regarding your statement here:

Not to discount renters who are definitely hurting, but they do need to consider the new home owners in this too.

So if your property value decreased you’d still be better off than any renters would be.

If you want to talk about how hard it is, don’t even mention renters because the comparison makes your situation look rosy.

I’d love to have a concrete asset worth hundreds of thousands to back me up, but instead I have to spend 60% of my paycheck on somebody else’s mortgage payments and I don’t even get to own anything for all that money I’m spending.

Rodeo,

I don’t see the point of a comparison of who’s got it worse, the answer is always people without the ability to save.

Saying the liberals are in a tough spot because they have to choose between helping renters who have no assets and owners who have hundreds of thousands is obviously going to raise a comparison.

It doesn’t seem like a tough choice from where I’m standing. People like you will recover over time. But people who don’t own homes have nothing to recover. So it’s pretty obvious who needs the help.

Rodeo,

Then we’ll all be happier if you dump your emotions on someone else.

I find complaining to be toxic. Which is why this thread sucks so much. We’re all just whining about each other.

Rodeo,

Hey at least you didn’t try to call me broken.

Rodeo,

So you’re not disputing her point at all then? If you’ve nothing to dispute, then how is expertise even relevant?

Rodeo,

And yet the veracity of such a statement is completely independent of anyone’s expertise.

Rodeo,

That’s the foundation of ad hominem. It doesn’t matter whether a two year who knows nothing or an expert with a life of experience says “climate change is happening”, because the expertise of the person making the statement has no bearing on the truth of the statement itself. The two year old who can barely think is still right, even though he’s not an expert, and if you want to debate it then you have to debate whether climate change is happening, not whether the two year old knows anything.

Rodeo,

No. A statement has the same validity regardless of who says it.

Rodeo,

Well if we’re talking about trust, then we are talking about belief, and if you’re moving into the realm of belief then there is no point in any further discussion of reason.

Rodeo,

Almost everyone who has been around the project for a long time has had problems with Juan. I was an early contributor in 2015/2016, but after reading some of the responses he made on Reddit I stopped contributing. I’m happy to keep using his engine for free, but I decided he’s not the kind of person that deserves my contributions.

Rodeo,

What are the rules around “longevity and spirit of the community”?

How long do we have to be around before our longevity is proven? How does one define “spiriti of the community”, and how can we quantify whether we’re meeting expectations?

Did they give you any metrics on this?
