How would I get a relative point between a min and max value that could be represented as a float between 0.0 and 1.0?

I have a min and max position of an object and I want to represent an arbitrary point between them as a float between 0.0 and 1.0. This feels relatively basic math, but I can’t quite figure out what I need to do with this. Is there a special name for this sort of thing? Also, are there any built-in methods that would be useful...

MossBear,

I think that may work! Thanks!

MossBear,

Please bring back Overwatch 1 the very next day.

MossBear,

Thanks! This is a big help!

Is is possible to make a material where something appears to be beneath a semi-transparent surface?

I’m not terribly proficient with making materials yet, but I was wondering if something like this is doable and if so, what it might involve. I basically want to make a part of a creature appear beneath the ice in 3d. but I don’t know how to approach it or what I should be looking at.

MossBear,

Just a reminder that if you’re using ai to write your book, your book has less worth than your last dump.

MossBear,

Sorry, but your healthcare is in another castle.

MossBear,

Open-source provides cool things all the time. For example, allowing that some prefer KDE (totally valid preference), I personally feel like Gnome is the greatest desktop environment humanity has ever created and every six months it keeps getting better still.

MossBear,

Never used it!

MossBear,

Would this be an appropriate place for shocked pikachu?

If I have a thin 3D object (like a wall), what's the best way to ensure collisions will be detected properly?

I have a wall in my 3D game which is relatively thin and it can be hit on both sides with objects that may occasionally be moving somewhat fast. Is there a reliable way to ensure that the colliding objects will be stopped on either side of the wall as opposed to simply passing through?

MossBear,

This is a big help and makes a lot of sense! Thanks! :D

MossBear,

To quote Picard, “The line must be drawn here! This far! No further!”

MossBear,

They kneecapped Linux in the early days because they were afraid of what people accepting FOSS as a standard would do to their profits.

MossBear,

Steamdeck 2 is all I need.

MossBear,

It’s not all about business models. People make things out of personal interest too.

MossBear,

If you believe it and keep using Unity for new projects, you’re kind of a sucker.

MossBear,

10:1 wage ratio should be the law. Less if possible.

MossBear,

Don’t let your kids grow up to be Unity developers.

MossBear,

Not normal at all. Linux on the same hardware makes Windows feel a decade older.

Thousands sign up to experience magic mushrooms as Oregon’s novel psilocybin experiment takes off (apnews.com)

Psilocybin tea, wind chimes and a tie-dye mattress await those coming to an office suite in Eugene to trip on magic mushrooms. For roughly six hours, adults over 21 can experience what many users describe as vivid geometric shapes, a loss of identity and a oneness with the universe....

MossBear,

I want to try it but I don’t know how to go about getting it.

MossBear,

Having done cleaning in offices such as these for at least one of the top companies in the world, I fail to see why even this sort of office is all that compelling. Look, a miniature golf statue…

MossBear,

Unless employee owned companies become the norm and CEO driven companies are seen as outdated relic of feudalism.

MossBear,

Three years ago after trying Unity for a month I chose to learn Godot instead. I see now how right that decision was. Well done past self. Have a future cookie.

MossBear,

That’s a good rule. I only accidentally got into open-source, but now that I know what it is and what it’s all about, I am totally sold on it and will almost always choose open-source over proprietary alternatives.

MossBear,

Leave one out overnight and tell your present self that they can have it in the future if they do x before tomorrow. If you succeed, then you get a cookie. If you fail, eat the cookie anyway. At least you tried.

MossBear,

It’s called Godot, and it’s amazing.

MossBear,

So what’s the quick bullet point version of how Matrix works? Are there instance like Lemmy? If so, what are the best ones?

MossBear,

Why stay at all whether they revert it or not? They’re egregiously incompetent and if they’ve done this sort of thing once, they’re going to do it again. Developers should go where their support will help make something better (Godot) and not stick with the crusty old Unity hag that is constantly pawing at their pockets hoping for the jingle of coins.

MossBear,

In this case it sounds like they were talking about their next game rather than a current project.

MossBear,

If Developers were in a relationship with Unity, it’d be the sort where Unity always comes home drunk and is verbally abusive, but they stick around with the belief that Unity will change.

MossBear,

I didn’t click through and was going based on the headline. My mistake.

MossBear,

Yeah, you’re right. I was thinking of it in terms of current project -> next project, but I see that’s not what was meant.

MossBear,

Its music, but the level of skill to make it is low, and therefore of little credit to the one who makes it.

MossBear,

Somewhere out there is a conservative going “they worked hard for what they have and shouldn’t be punished for their success.”

MossBear,

Godot.

MossBear,

It already has. The Godot Developer Fund went up by $4,000 yesterday alone.

MossBear,

Just a reminder that if Unity developers with pro licenses coming to Godot contribute even a small fraction of what they might have paid for those licenses on Unity, Godot can develop even faster.

MossBear,

Unless you have an irrational hatred of open-source, I don’t know why you wouldn’t be using Godot at this point.

MossBear,

Dome Keeper and Cassette Beats are two notable games made made with Godot. As to the second point, making games is a long process, but it doesn’t have to be expensive. That depends entirely on the skills of the developers, and the nature of the game.

MossBear,

I love vanilla gnome. I totally understand how some users prefer the flexibility of KDE, but a clean, minimal interface with easy access to workspaces is just the thing for me.

MossBear,

If it still allowed me to do everything I wanted to in an easy enough way, I wouldn’t be opposed. I would say in short, I don’t know enough about it to know whether I’d like it.

MossBear,

I remember well. It was the ultimate gut punch and marked the turn from a more optimistic and innocent time to the cynical reality we’re still living in. The 90’s were by far not perfect, but for many it was a dream compared to life since 2001.

MossBear,

They’ll generally choose convenience over a better path. This ranges from the people who just leave grocery carts in the parking lot, to people who stay on the platform formerly known as Twitter as opposed to being a part of supporting more ethical alternatives, to people who defend the data harvesting practices of big tech companies, just to name a few examples.
