Rodeo,

The RCMP plans to launch a direct recruitment stream for people who want to work in federal policing, one that would send them through a specialized training program and skip the 26 weeks’ instruction at the depot.

So our cops are going to get even less training now?

It takes EIGHT YEARS of training just argue about the law in a court room, but six short months and you can go out and enforce the law with deadly weaponry.

Nouveau_Burnswick,

It’s only for the Federal side, “which investigates terrorism and other threats to national security, along with high-level organized crime and cybercrime”

These are computer detectives, not uniforms with a gun.

adespoton,

I remember the last time this happened, around 2008. Back then of course, Surrey, BC was RCMP, and nobody wanted to be stationed there.

Just another old white dude trying to fix dumb shit instead of focusing on the real problems within.

frostbiker,

Just another old white dude inexperienced colored girl rying to fix dumb shit instead of focusing on the real problems within.

Do you see how toxic it sounds now? Gross.

corsicanguppy,

Mounties require far more training, earn less, work more broadly, need more security checks, and have less support than metro cops.

It’s baffling how they want to recruit people when cities are gaga about getting pricy metro cops to soak in the lo¢al connections.

Let’s conscribe their work function to only federal only major crimes, then, because having a direct progressive route from rookie to federal investigator that leverages experience is … dumb?
