And Dan Olson (Folding Ideas)

Interestingly I’ve wondered if this is regional, as a fellow Aussie I learned the same as you but it seems in other places they learn the other way

Jiffy is already an abstract measurement of time though

Genshin Impact has been my comfort game the last 2 years

It’s the same in Aussie English

What are your thoughts on a user-driven, officially unofficial radio station for Lemmy?

For the past few weeks I’ve been working on creating my own public radio station (it’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid). Well now it’s up and running but I don’t know what to do with it. So I thought I’d see what Lemmy thinks about the concept, before I go all in and start investing in licensing fees, better...

There’s already radio free fedi for the entire fediverse

Ice Cubes is what I use after trying g pretty much all of them, such a beautiful but simple app

No show had a bigger impact on me than Neon Genesis

If you have a VPN just set your location to a place they don’t run ads

Why wasn't NYC's Central Park concept copied by other cities?

I’m talking about a massive park in the absolute heart of the city. Located such that is naturally surrounded by city high rises. *People are giving examples of parks that are way off in the boonies. I’m trying to say located centrally, heart of the city, you know where the high rises are. Yes I understand nyc has more, the...

Any idea what Google are doing? Is this because I dont use Chrome (use Firefox)? I've no adblockers. (lemmy.world)

So this started coming up today. On every video. I can (so far) click the “x” and remove it to watch (still see 2 ads before the video, and one after 4 minutes - ruins music on YT), but did click the “Report issue” only for the dialogue box not to work....

@Nihilore@lemmy.world avatar

You need a certain amount of watch time over the previous year. I have 2k subs and can’t even get half of the required watch time, my videos show ads I cannot turn off

Nihilore,
@Nihilore@lemmy.world avatar

I have a note in the description of every video that say “seeing ads on my videos? Use ublock origin!”

Nihilore,
@Nihilore@lemmy.world avatar

I tried to switch to DDG as my default search on iOS but my adblocker doesn’t block ads on it but it does on google, so I switched back

Just play Grim Dawn instead

Nihilore,
@Nihilore@lemmy.world avatar

Fuck no, commercial radio is a fucking cancer

Same with narwhal on iOS, just announced the exact same thing

Dan makes some of the best content on YouTube

Nihilore,
@Nihilore@lemmy.world avatar

Avelon for a very simple reason, it’s compact mode is slightly more compact than the others I’ve tried

Nihilore,
@Nihilore@lemmy.world avatar

Really? I’ve watched it a few times, top 5 horror movies for me

Films and shows which tell the story of how they themselves were produced

In The Office (US version) it is revealed that the mockumentary the viewer watches does in fact exist inside the universe. Dunder-Mifflin crew is even interviewed as stars of the show and Pam has a thing for the boom mic operator who worked on the set....

Adaptation was my first thought, one of my favourite movie

Nihilore,

Yes! This movie is brilliant

Once a day after work, weekends in the morning

Circle of protection: white

Seriously, though. How often do you think of the Roman Empire?

I know this is a joke/meme, but I sincerely think of the Roman Empire a surprising amount of times. I find myself obsessing over how Roman citizens were living just as complex lives as we are today, or about Marcus Aurelius’ life and philosophy, or about how the Republic fell and became a totalitarian state.

Nihilore,
@Nihilore@lemmy.world avatar

Only every time this gets asked

Nihilore,
@Nihilore@lemmy.world avatar

Yeh this site has nothing on some of the insane ai creators on pixiv

Nihilore,
@Nihilore@lemmy.world avatar

Avelon is my favourite for the very simple reason that it’s compact mode is the most compact of any I’ve tried.

People having to self censor on the internet to appease advertisers is just another part of enshittification

What games had easy soft locks that prevented you from either progressing or getting a true ending?

The thought came to mind after reading a recent post about Baldurs Gate 3 here but it reminded me of the Japense only PSX game Mizzurna Falls where if you don’t perform a certain action early in the game you are prevented from getting a true ending. While this might not be a traditional soft lock because you can still progress...

Takeshi’s challenge I think it was called. Notoriously bullshit game on the famicon

Nihilore,

Tried them all and Avelon is my favourite

Nihilore,

It’s $120 in Australia, even at 50% off it’s still more than I’d ever spend on a game. Just gonna keep waiting

Does anyone else act more 'human' when solving captchas?

Whenever I have to do a captcha where you must select all tiles with bicycles, I know I can just click through super fast, but I feel like that might make the website suspicious, so I purposefully slow down like “Geez, this is a melon-scratcher!” or click and then unclick a tile like “whoops, silly me, thats an umbrella...

What film, show or game that is not necessarily 'underated' didn't have the level of social impact it deserved.

What’s the antithesis of Arrested Development, Firefly or The Big Lebowski? Those may never have ‘found their audience’ but over time seemed to recognised by everyone. What are the deep cuts that you liked but it feels like everyone has completely forgotten they even existed.

When it comes to invisible VFX I always think of this video. Fincher is a practical guy but who uses VFX in way most people don’t even realise
