Mobiuthuselah,

To remember that we’ve spent almost 18 years together and that we’re best friends. That we’ve carried each other and comforted each other through so much.

There was that time I had to climb fifty feet up a tree with hardly any limbs with ropes and a harness to get him when the crows goaded him into climbing higher. The rusty antique farm equipment below would have mangled him had he fallen. I had to lift him with one hand, balanced, hoping he would roll out of my grip, and put him in a cinch top bag with a rope attached to lower him to my wife on the ground. Once he reached her hands, I broke down and sobbed while I made my way to them. I was so scared. I woke up the next day and he was curled up around my hand, holding tightly. He didn’t want to go outside for months.

He pees on me regularly now. Sometimes when I come home with my hands full and can’t give him attention immediately. Sometimes when I’ve been home all day and he didn’t get a snack fast enough. Maybe his kitten baby sister is trying to play with him or he’s stuck on the other side of the door while I’m brushing my teeth. He has hyperthyroidism and kidney disease. We give him everything, do the best we can for his health care, but it’s getting close to the time we say goodbye and it’s breaking my heart.

I just wish he’d remember me the way I remember him.

I lifted him onto my lap yesterday morning, out of the reach of his gentle but playful six month old kitten sister. He peed all down the front of me. I didn’t scold; I just held him until he was done, knowing the last time I hold him isn’t far away.

Mobiuthuselah,

As far as I can guess, stones of shungite estimated to be about two billion years old.

Mobiuthuselah,

That’s when I just let them have the hole they dug. I’d normally at least tip 20% (usa of course.)

I get that the service staff has little to no control over this charge, but I got it earlier tonight on a party of two. No extra service, no check-ins, no waters, nothing other than “here ya go.” They even had a QR code to order and pay with phone number, email, and address requirement even though I’m out of town on a one off drop in.

Mobiuthuselah,

That’s not making sense to me. Would you be willing to find your sources? Larger particles would not spend more time in the air as far as I know. It’s almost like you’re claiming it’s better to sneeze wild straight out everywhere instead of into your elbow, handkerchief, or tissue.

Mobiuthuselah,

Isn’t Japanese read from right to left?

Mobiuthuselah,

Look up books and info on food combining. Some foods interfere with the digestion of other foods while some help, as you probably know.

Mobiuthuselah,

Don’t you think mental health is stigmatized enough without using it to make fun of people you don’t understand?

Mobiuthuselah,

Poor food combinations can give you gas/bloating, indigestion, fatigue. Good food combinations work together and can help with the uptake of certain nutrients.

Mobiuthuselah,

It doesn’t have to be strict. Some people make too big of a deal out of it. Most of us are used to eating in certain combinations anyways and our bodies have adjusted. One small example that you’ve probably heard, turmeric’s beneficial components are more bioavailable when eaten with black pepper. The body digests foods in varying ideal circumstances depending on what it is. Ultimately, you’ll probably be just fine eating a varied diet, but there are combinations that are better or worse for nutrient uptake, gastric comfort, blood sugar spikes, etc.

Mobiuthuselah,

She didn’t get depressed because you didn’t talk to her, and she wasn’t interested in you because you were VP of the science fiction club in high school. It all just sounds so self important even if that’s not your intent.

Mobiuthuselah,

There’s no one answer to your question, but from an ecological standpoint, sexual selection plays the main role in this. There are a lot of variables and the societal pressures are integral. The people you live around, and the multigenerational influences that shape your community steer this selection. But that’s not to say that nature is intentional.

As an example, the people who came to Hawai’i had a tendency towards very large men and very small women. Because of the isolation in the islander cultures and the relatively small population sizes, this could exaggerate selective pressures. I think it’s important to point out for whoever needs to hear it that being small statured should not be confused with subservience, absolutely.

This is one example in a whole world of variables that agree with your observation, but there are many cultures where that sexual selection is completely different. The ideas of who does what in a relationship in order to build a life with another person is influenced by the agreements we’ve been taught in our communities and carried on in a way that expresses itself genetically over time. Like you said, people like what they like, and as such, the idea of beauty (or desirability as a mate, more accurately) continues to change and is not the same in other places. Ultimately, those that reproduce will give rise to certain selections, but the reasons are so varied that it can’t be apparent until looking at long spans of time and generalized pressures.

All that to say, nature is not choosing or steering anything. Natural selection is backward-looking. It is an adaptation to pressures that existed, not an ideal or purpose for the future. It’s accidental, and stumbling, and pure chance in a lot of instances.

Mobiuthuselah,

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves

Mobiuthuselah,

I just told my wife Mint was shutting down and she gasped, frozen in shock. I was thinking she was taking it really hard. Took me a minute before I realized she thought I was talking about our favorite Indian restaurant.

Mobiuthuselah,

I’m not in favor of the voucher programs, but you’re diluting the opposition to them by claiming some incredibly misinformed bullshit. Just seems funny that we’re talking about education systems, and yours seems to have failed you.

Mobiuthuselah,

This feels like you’re a bit defensive about your understanding of the subject. Somehow you’ve been led to believe that this affects every kid not in public school. That’s demonstrably false.

Mobiuthuselah,

Don’t let movies do your thinking for you. This is an effective eradication method that has been used successfully for many years.

Mobiuthuselah,

My wife found one huddled in the middle of the road earlier this year, probably only five or six weeks old. Our attempts at fostering have failed spectacularly. She loves it here.

Mobiuthuselah,

Oh man, I can’t imagine. I live in the south. Learned to drive in Atlanta. I can’t even imagine

Mobiuthuselah,

And they were still bullshitting us at that price. They hit negative numbers. Were paying oil barrel buyers to store it. Negative prices.

Mid to late 90’s in Georgia (US) when I heard OPEC would start limiting barrel sales. We were at $0.63/gallon. Knew I’d never see that again. The days of pocket/couch change road trips.

Mobiuthuselah,

Wait, no prize for a full card? WTH, you sure?

Mobiuthuselah,

Shhh, the IT guys are trying to have a moment

Mobiuthuselah,

Appalachian Mountain Brewery.

They paved the way for new breweries in a little mountain town in western North Carolina. They consistently gave significant percentages to charities, often local. They built a recognized brand and then sold to Anheuser Busch InBev. AB InBev helped them reach new craft beer drinkers with a huge corporate backing. The business ran the same as far as a local consumer could tell. They got a lot of new insight and opportunities.

And then two of the original founders bought it back from AB InBev. First time that’s ever happened. Really great guys too. Very happy to continue to see their journey.

Mobiuthuselah,

Pun aside, this I’ve done. I could even hear the worms chewing during especially quiet moments. We put cherry slabs under clear plastic in the sun, then peeled the bark and smashed the larva with mallets. Not sure why my boss didn’t want to use borax.

Mobiuthuselah,

Likely what you’d imagine. They were larvae, small, fat worms with little short “beaks” for chewing wood, just like a grub. It was a very very faint rhythmic grinding, crunching sound that I just happened to notice one day. Almost thought I was imagining it.

Mobiuthuselah,

Is it really? I haven’t played since ice age came out; I don’t really know. I still remember having a bunch of those though

Mobiuthuselah,

That’s pretty much been the popular attitude anyways

Mobiuthuselah,

Geez, who invited this wet blanket?

Mobiuthuselah,

Nope, that’s not how any of that works

Mobiuthuselah,

The invasion of Afghanistan saw a (iirc) 900% increase in poppy production. This was after reports of how they would work with farmers to reduce production.

Drug control isn’t about suppression; it’s about control. The opium wars emphasize that. Look at the countries that banned it, but then turned around and produced/bought and sold it to other countries for profit and societal destabilization.

Mobiuthuselah,

My condolences for your father.

Are fentanyl and stimulants used together in medicine that you’re aware of?

Mobiuthuselah,

I’ve never been asked if about prior drug use in connection with buying a firearm. Is it normal to ask that? Or is it something that isn’t asked about and happens to be obscurely illegal?

Mobiuthuselah,

Hugs to you. We’ll never get long enough, but the time we get makes it worth it. The love you’ve given them has meant the whole world.

Mobiuthuselah,

I’d talk to my oldest. Talk about the times that we both remember fondest. Tell him I’m going to do everything to make him happy and keep him comfortable. As much as I want to say that I want to work out a signal for when he’s ready, that’s not how it works. That’s not compassion.

Today is the fourth anniversary of my dad’s passing. I was blessed to have the time that hospice gave us, to spend last moments, to say goodbye. The grief afterwards has taught me that grief is grief. There’s no measuring between types of grief or between people. It hits in unexpected ways and it hurts. The grief of Dad hasn’t gone away, it’s just gotten easier to carry. The waves of it still crash on my shores, but most days it’s more of a tidal wash. I know I’m going to go through another storm when it’s time for my oldest, but I know that it will make me a better person to embrace it and work through why it hurts so much, why and how much I love him. Sharing that vulnerability has brought me closer to my friends. Sharing it with others has been (however counterintuitively) self empowering.

Mobiuthuselah,

This is similar to what I thought in response when I read the question, “I created my own job. Perks!” I don’t have to come in early and found I really enjoy working in the middle of the night. All kinds of freedoms, but also all the responsibility. I also found I’m not that great at wearing all of the hats, but that’s just part of personal growth.

Mobiuthuselah,

To back up your point but also clarify, the woman with the McDonald’s coffee initially offered to settled for 20k, but McDonald’s wouldn’t offer more than $800. The jury awarded her $3mil. It was later reduced but then settled confidentially. McDonald’s did (as you point out) produce a major smear campaign against her and completely downplayed her injuries. iirc, her the injuries included third degree burns, fusion of labia to her thigh, and multiple skin grafts. The more you learn about it, the worse it gets. We were all brainwashed into thinking it was poster child for frivolous lawsuits. www.caoc.org/?pg=facts

Mobiuthuselah,

Skilled work often is an art.

Fatal shooting of University of South Carolina student who tried to enter wrong home 'justifiable,' police say (www.nbcnews.com)

The homeowner who fatally shot a 20-year-old University of South Carolina student who tried to enter the wrong home on the street he lived on Saturday morning will not face charges because the incident was deemed “a justifiable homicide” under state law, Columbia police announced Wednesday....

Mobiuthuselah,

Probably a good idea if you tend to drunkenly break into homes in the middle of the night

Mobiuthuselah,

No one does. There’s some relevant context here that you seem to be ignoring.

Mobiuthuselah,

::gasp:: Actual drug dealers??

Mobiuthuselah,

You’re missing punctuation after the word think.

Mobiuthuselah,

You consider that “the most hateful kind”? Internet responses, really? Toughen up buttercup. Other people can run their mouth just as much as you. Don’t be so fragile.

Mobiuthuselah,

Fifty years ago, they already knew this

Mobiuthuselah,

I knew someone back in college that tried to outline the sweet tea line. They found there’s a zone of ambiguity where it will vary from restaurant to restaurant.

I thought a good follow up would be to ask different individuals how to make sweet tea. Those who know, know you can’t just put sugar into iced tea.

Mobiuthuselah,

Nothing recent, but they’ve controlled these for a long time.

I know what you mean by capitalists, but respectfully, I think you dilute your argument to phrase it that way. Many people start their own small businesses and find success, personal freedom, fulfillment (I mean they also find challenges, anxiety, and struggles, sure.) Isn’t it capitalism that allows them to decide what they want to do, start something from scratch, determine their own prices?

Actually, now that I think about it, maybe you or someone else can tell me, how does starting a business in a capitalistic society differ from starting one in a more socialistic society? I’m wondering what freedoms and restrictions there are. I started out going one way with this comment but realized there’s probably a lot I could learn to broaden my perspective. I really only know what it feels like to start my own business in a capitalistic society.

Mobiuthuselah,

Right?! They didn’t end it in “Good Luck” to instill any kind of encouragement

Mobiuthuselah,

Had I known about this group before… I saw a what looked like a 15ft tall yellow transformer made out of car parts in someone’s front yard in a small community in western North Carolina today. What a missed opportunity!

Mobiuthuselah,

If you’re getting bailed out right away, there’s no point in booking you into general population and providing you with clothes. There’s no double standard here; they are just getting processed and released.
