Everything existing in the universe is the fruit of chance and necessity.

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

I agree, it was a good movie, hopefully it does not get destroyed with sequels

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

absolutely, xrdp and remmina, what’s the problem with remote desktop?!?

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

this is what I’m doing too, so at least it’s not compiled and better than a /* */ as you can keep all the code intact in your 0

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

to reduce usage of the mouse?

a keyboard?

I can confirm, I am born in 1970 and I am 33 years old (even if I always say 29 to everybody, every year is my 29yo again)

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

I remember learning Caml in (French) university in 1996, it was brand new and from INRIA guys, I understood about nothing about it :)

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

I love MX Linux, I’m using it for years! Xfce is super nice and fast, everything is super up to date and use debian native, no snap/flatpak. From old 32bits netbook to super new AMD system, it’s MX here.

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

Arch (BTW I’m using Arch)

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

Not a lot, and this is why to speedup thing on some architecture, when working with (unsigned)integer you multiply by 355 then divide by 113 (it’s like 3.14159292035)

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

you have to remember 11 33 55 and put the bar in the middle. It is mainly small MCU like ATMEGA and co. lacking FPU, and yes old stuff like Z80 ,6502, etc.

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

Spawn as a daemon, and be sure to kill the child before

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

What do you define as nuclear power? Because something like Pioneer 10 which is in space since 1972, is using a nuclear reactor to provide its power, and it is still working.

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

Never used them, maybe I’m old, but I only use app from the mx/debian repo. Everything is here and up-to-date. I prefer raw native.

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

Perfectly legal, they wrote the laws for themselves, there’s nothing you can do.

Facebook Puts a Price on Privacy in EU, EEA and Switzerland: It’s 9.99€ a Month + 6€ for Each Extra Account (www.wired.com)

Ad free Facebook and Instagram is officially on. I’m trying to stay open minded but honestly it’s too expensive especially with this sneaky account center rule unless you’re in an unfortunate position where you need to spend a lot of time on these platforms....

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

Absolutely, the $10/month is just to disable ads, like if you are running a free uBlock. Meta will still collect all your data from every cookies/sites and sell all your info to 3rd party for $$$.

    Sync, that’s it. I’ve had an android phone for 10+ years and I only bought Sync, twice, one for reddit, one for lemmy.

    Magister,
    @Magister@lemmy.world avatar

    It’s not 100£, you don’t need the full pro version whatever, just buy the ads free one for I don’t know 15£ or something

    Magister,
    @Magister@lemmy.world avatar

    An EV would be perfect for me, I live in QC where power is super cheap, I do 6000 miles per year, most round trip are way less than 100 miles, I’d have no problem charging it cheaply and never had a problem with range.

    My only problem is the price, in Canada I’d pay what? $60k+ ? no way.

    Magister,
    @Magister@lemmy.world avatar

    Absolutely, it all depends on your car usage. I spent maybe 75$/month on gas, and I change oil (synthetic) once a year only, so it’s not worth it for me.

    Magister,
    @Magister@lemmy.world avatar

    It does on mine, sometimes, so I clear cache, update uBlock, restart Firefox. In general it blocks them again

    I still have my HP Mini311, 11.6", 1366x768 screen, I put 3GB of DDR3 ram, 120GB SSD, overclocked it to 2GHz, put a 2.4/5GHz wifi card, installed MX (Xfce) linux on it, still works fine. Best thing is that this netbook has a discrete nvidia GPU that can decode 1080P in hardware, and a HDMI plug so you can even plug it on a TV. In 2009 it was incredible to do this with a small form factor like this!

    It came with Windows XP, For fun I installed Win10Pro 32bits on it, oh god… it’s so slow it’s incredible.

    Are phone notification LEDs still a thing?

    Looking at all the features that older phones uses to have compared to newer ones, I never hear anyone talk about the removal of the notification LED. I personally really liked that feature, being able to see if I got an email, a text or missed a call without turning on my phone was awesome. My Samsung note 8 had this feature,...

    Magister,
    @Magister@lemmy.world avatar

    True, OLED have the always on screen, but a lot of phones (mainly low/middle range) don’t have OLED and have no LED notification :-/ I remember I found this very useful on my old zenfone/nokia (my latest cell is OLED)

    The worst crossover I saw is the Ford Ecosport. It is basically a Ford Fiesta with higher suspension. It has nothing to do with a SUV, it is small, has 0 towing capacity, is 3000lbs, has a 3 cylinders engine, cost 30’000$ (in canada). The most useless and expensive thing. A Fiesta was half the price for essentially the same frame/car.

    I followed some young people doing the van life and it’s mostly walmart parking lots, gym parking lots, truck stop parking lots, and even sometimes (especially if van is in garage/repair) 1 or 2 hotel room in the month for proper showering and relax.

    Putain vous avez quel âge? La génération X connait très bien Prince et Purple Rain etc.

    C’était un as de la guitare! Un peu bizarre comme gars aussi

    I’m waiting for one with Funko Pops… but a lot deal in the 3 digits already and some 4 digits too. Try to find the whole collection of Futurama or Firefly in mint boxes!

    Magister,
    @Magister@lemmy.world avatar

    As a lot of people I saw the first one in 3D IMAX surrounds DTS whatever. Once. Never watched it again. Never saw the second one.

    Magister,
    @Magister@lemmy.world avatar

    No, it’s disgusting, taste like socks’ water

    “rapporterait”, c’est juste une hypothèse, ça n’arrivera pas

    Is there any way I can stop seeing sports posts?

    I don’t know if this was asked before and I don’t know how to look for that so I’m sorry if this is a repeat but, I keep seeing American football posts which I couldn’t care less about and I keep blocking the communities but they’re like thousands of millions of communities that never end. And no, I don’t wanna stick...

    Magister,
    @Magister@lemmy.world avatar

    Almost nothing you can do, viewing local will show you every communities/posts especially made by bots… Just use “Subscribed” instead.

    Gatineau -> Natashquan, 1500km (~940 miles), you’re still in the same province… For Europeans, in 1500km you can cross 4 or 5 countries.

    Even better, Radisson -> Natashquan, 2200km lol, still in Québec

    Magister,
    @Magister@lemmy.world avatar

    ?!? I’m not sure to understand this post? I will only install stuff that are .deb, not big image or snap or whatever?!?

    What’s the problem with deb when you are using debian based distro? Else you can easily extract the content and cp it in place

    Magister,
    @Magister@lemmy.world avatar

    It mostly fits me, except the split keyboard and “super hacker”. I started with un*x in the 80s and looks more like a 50s yo bearded guy 😂

    Magister,

    Damn, I’m using the “tape archiver” (this is what tar means) since I installed HPUX8 in the 90s, from tape, yes…

    Magister,
    @Magister@lemmy.world avatar

    Damn I’m 52 and have nothing at all “yet” but I know the countdown is started for all kinds of stuff 😑

    Embedded software designer, so a lot of stuff I worked on in my life might stop functioning for whatever reason, small stuff like Nest thermostat you can replace with mechanical ones, etc. Aerotech stuffs might be more problematic… but planes and helis were flying in the 50s without software

    Don’t forget adventist, pentecostalism, lutheranism, etc. There’s dozens of christians religions in the USA that may hate each others. This doesn’t make much sense.

    I don’t know, I’m an X, we don’t really exist anywhere, we are transparent and ignored in societies.

    Magister,

    Shit, it hurts bad, since COVID I took “birdnet” and check all birds, it’s so cool!

    Magister,
    @Magister@lemmy.world avatar

    I’m close to YUL and often check flightradar24 ☺️

    Magister,
    @Magister@lemmy.world avatar

    This is what birdnet is doing, you record a bird and it tells you what it is :)
