I’m helping a family member build a pc. He wanted to use Windows because “Linux can’t play games” despite me having a perfectly good gaming laptop running Linux that runs all my games, even graphically intensive ones....
I’ve been using both daily, for 25+ years. Windows is not hard to use, but harder to configure now, having multiple paths/ways to configure the same thing like settings, old control panel, command line, regedit, group policy, is sometimes shitty. Everything else works fine in win10 or 11.
Same boat, I like FOSS, using linux for 20+ years yada yada android custom ROM hack stuff what not, but 10 years ago I tested all the reddit app, Sync was far superior so I bought it for like 3$. Now Sync for Lemmy is an impressive experience compared to Jerboa or Connect for instance, so I forked the 20$ for the noads version. Dev looks like a great guy, I have no problem with this.
Well, not small objects per se, but wood furniture, real wood, not laminate shit. I have some real wood furniture for more than 25 years, table, chairs, sideboard/dresser, etc. Some are even antique bought for $25 25 years ago.
I have used a mixed of Netscape/Firebird/Firefox mostly for personal uses, along with at the time IE then Chrome mostly for professional stuff and banking (at the time) and developing. But for ~3 years now it’s FF only, even on my phone. Google started their AMP stuff and all, and this DRM is the shit hitting the fan.
Back in the day - rooting Android phones and installing custom ROMs were such a big part of Android. I remember so well using titanium backup and Greenify and Cyanogenmod and the list goes on....
I did with my old samsung, motorola, asus, nokia. But my last phone, PoCo F3, no, especially because it’s difficult to have a working Google Wallet with unlocked bootloader/root. I did it with my asus zenphone and nokia, but damn it broke every few weeks with a google update, and you needed to patch after patch after faking stuff and magisk addons etc for it to run a couple of weeks and BAM! Google Pay was disabled again… very annoying.
On my F3 I disabled/uninstalled unwanted apps with a debloater and I’m using Firefox for browsing. No need to root yet. When I’ll change phone I’ll root the old one.
It’s also because I used Sync Pro on Reddit for 10 years, and this is the same exact experience with Sync for Lemmy! I bought Pro something like $3 10 years ago and $20 today. The developer is pretty good.

It’s incredible, I remember in the 90s in university, some students were king of Latex and made incredible beautiful paper full of complicated mathematical formula and such
Yup, I saw almost all of them in theater when they were released, except Shawshank I never saw it, yeah I know it’s about the best movie in the world, but I never saw it, go figure. And I have not seen Maverick too.
For context, LDAC is one of the few wireless audio codecs stamped Hi-Res by the Japan Audio Society and its encoder is open source since Android 8, so you can see just how long Windows is sleeping on this. I’m excited about the incoming next gen called LC3plus, my next pair is definitely gonna have that.
For me it all depends on what I connect to, my head unit in the car defaults to AAC, my portable BT speaker is using LDAC, my bookshelf is using AptX-HD.
Thanks Android for supporting all of them automatically!
At first there was so network instability and compatibility problem that I used PWA and Jerboa and Connect and switched between them multiple times a day.
Now I’m using Jerboa almost exclusively as everything seems more stable.
So my wife has a 10 year old low end notbook. 500Gb of storage (HDD), 2GB of GDR3 RAM, and an intel Celeron Processor N2806. It originally came with Win 8, then she “upgraded” to win 10 and after that it was pretty much unusable. I am talking CPU and Ram about 80-90% in idle, opening a browser got everything down to a crawl....
I also got an old notebook, atom N260 32 bits, 3GB of RAM. I put a 128GB SSD, then I installed MX Linux with Xfce (MX21.3_386) and it’s usable for light tasks. Yes browsing heavy sites is slow, but everything else works pretty well.
I tried one called Lemmur that I downloaded off F-Droid, however, it can not find this instance (lemmy.world). I want one that’s open-source, and preferably from F-Droid (because screw Google). Which one do you guys use?
I’m with lemmy.world and I can still see beehaw recent posts and I can interact with them despite us being mutually defederated. How does this actually work?
I’m doing the same, I have Jerboa and Connect, switch between them to try. Last days had a lot of network or html errors, it’s more stable now, I’m still not decided…
What I like from Jerboa is the kind of official app and open source. What I like about Connect is the developer is superactive and sometimes release multiple times a day, bugfix, new features, etc, really impressive.
I’m also waiting for Sync because I am a 10yo SyncPro user.
I also have a PWA shortcut on my screen because in case apps are badly crashing or whatever, the PWA link works pretty well.
It doesn’t even work right, lemmy.ca and beehaw.org are not synchronized even if they federate with each others, certainly the same with multiple instances.
