This! I use Linux on my laptop but also have a desktop that runs Windows 10. Some people here act like windows is completely unusable when in reality it’s much more user friendly than Linux.
The amount of people that like to shit on the U.S. constantly… Like damn I get it, we definitely have problems, but people here would have you think it’s like the wild wild west over here… I promise I’m not fearing for my life every time I go out.
The extreme left views (I’m liberal myself but some of the things people say here really have me scratching my head sometimes)
The amount of Windows bad, Linux good posts.
The amount of people that immediately shit on Apple because of privacy, but use an Android device that accesses the Google Play store (yes I know you can install custom privacy roms, but let’s be real, how many casual users are doing this?)
I was taught American exceptionalism and said the national anthem every school day of my childhood, K-12.
I was too and did the same, but I was taught to break away from the mold and usual thinking as a young adult pretty early on (thank you parents and to some of my teachers). I’m sorry to hear that those people in your life lied to you and never thought to help you break out of that mold.
The states is so vast that what you’re saying doesn’t always apply to another person. It’s funny because you mention being born in Seattle and growing up in LA. Well I was born in Georgia and most people would have you believe living in the south is shit (which to be fair, some places are), but I can say my life experience has been completely different than yours.
As I mentioned before the states has its problems for sure but it’s not all bad and your experience can vastly differ from another.
That’s great! I’m glad you found something that works for you. Like I said, my laptop is running Linux (Arch btw) and I’ve had fun learning a new OS and I do enjoy the lack of bloatware.
I guess what I meant to say is that people act like windows is unusable, as in, they can’t figure out how to use the OS like it’s something very complex.
I’m starting to realize this also. At first, Lemmy seemed great with conversations, but it’s starting to shift waaay too far left and I’m a liberal myself.
Honestly considering going back to Reddit… just sucks because the only mobile option is their shitty app.
It’s like I get the point of this war but at the same time it’s just something about the music playing in the background like it’s some kind of call of duty montage that makes me feel uneasy about it.
I was in the military too and there are often times where I didn’t agree with certain things but it’s part of the mission.
Idk, it’s just sad and unfortunate all around.
These people have friends and family that I’m sure care about them…
I just want to put it out there that even though I get your intent, it’s not necessarily something that will be taken without criticism. I’d rather people not get in trouble for stealing, no matter if you think it’s justified or not.
For people that are in need of food assistance and located in the U.S. you can visit here www.fns.usda.gov/snap/state-directory and select the state you’re living in. That should get you started in receiving food assistance and necessities from the government.
Oh I’ve actually been told by fat people that there’s no way that I actually enjoy working out and that I’m forcing myself to go to the gym while not enjoying it.
Guess it’s weird I like improving my physique and enjoying seeing how I can reach new goals ¯_(ツ)_/¯
To me, it seems objectively easier to pull into a parking space forward and then back out of the space when you are ready to leave. You don’t have to line up with the lines while driving backwards, and it’s easier to keep from hitting other cars as well. So why back in? To me, the only advantage I can think of is that you...
This literally happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I even honked the horn and they just ignored it and kept talking like they were the only ones on the road. Some people are just so oblivious.
I’m helping a family member build a pc. He wanted to use Windows because “Linux can’t play games” despite me having a perfectly good gaming laptop running Linux that runs all my games, even graphically intensive ones....
I have Linux on my laptop but I have a Windows gaming PC and I’m honestly trying to figure out how could you not get steam to start? Never had an issue with that before…
Seriously, I honestly feel like this is a bad look for Lemmy right now. Like who cares how people enjoy Lemmy? Also, why do people care so much about how others spend their money?
Some of these people don’t even realize they are using a closed source app (connect) and have no problem with it, but when price is introduced all of a sudden people are up in arms.
Don’t like the price? Continue to use Sync(with ads) or use the other plethora of FOSS alternatives.
I honestly don’t see what the problem is. If you prefer FOSS use FOSS apps.
I’ve tried every single Lemmy app for iOS and Android, but I can honestly say nothing comes close to how smooth and native Sync feels.
I wasn’t even a Sync user on Reddit so I didn’t understand the hype, but I get it now. On my Pixel 6 Pro all of the other Lemmy apps had some kind of issues, whether that be random crashes or frame rate issues. But Sync is just so smooth and feature rich.
I’ve also joined the sync discord and the developer is very clear on what type of data he collects (He doesn’t, but Google may).
Also with the pricing, if you don’t agree with the price that’s your opinion, but the amount of complaining is ridiculous. He made the app so whatever he wants to charge is his decision. You can also still freely use the app (with ads) so no one is forcing you to buy.
That’s fine. In my opinion, I think that would be more of a valid point if there were no alternatives, but as the original post shows there are plenty of FOSS apps available for those that want that.
I just feel like the developer has took a lot of his time and effort to make this for the community, but instead, some of the community decides to bash him for it due to the pricing model and it not being FOSS.
We’re supposed to be building Lemmy as a community but here we are fighting against ourselves internally when there’s plenty of options for everyone to use.
Funny enough, I’m getting ready to board a plan soon and I’m using sync 😂
Have you tried Memmy for iOS?
Yes I have! Memmy is a great app and it was the first one to reach the Apple store. The development team consistently pushed out updates pretty much daily and was able to provide the most features of any Lemmy app currently on iOS, at least in my opinion.
My main phone is also an iPhone, but it’s just something about sync. Like it’s seriously so fluid and it just feels “right” I would highly suggest giving it a try if you have an Android device laying around that can support it.

I’m not sure why your being downvoted, but it’s true. Allied countries of the U.S. do not have to put much towards their military budget do to being able to rely on the U.S.
The U.S. has a strong military presence in the Indo-pacific region and if they didn’t, surely some adversaries would have already been having their way.
It’s unfortunate it comes to this but that’s just the facts.
So true. These people damn near cause accidents just to rush to the next red light. I just don’t understand the amount of aggressive drivers on the road.
You’ll wish you would have taken your time once you find yourself in an accident and hopefully it didn’t cause the life of another person.
You’re right and I get it. When I was younger I use to think I needed to switch multiple lanes to pass cars to get to my destination faster.
I didn’t drive aggressively and cut people off, but I noticed most of the time you maybe only save a minute or two on your trip, so honestly it’s not even worth it.
Now I’m just fine with cruising, going the speed limit, and reaching my destination safely. It’s much more relaxing.
Sigh I miss using the train when I lived in Japan.
Yes! Got stopped by mine one day at the end of my shift going out the main entrance and he just kept talking for about 15 minutes. I was making it pretty obvious I’m off and trying to leave by even putting my foot in the door, but he just would not stop talking.
Now if I see him I just make a quick detour and use the other exit.

I work remote twice a week, which is nice, but I seriously wonder why I even have to go to the office the other three days.
Most of who I communicate with to do my job is not even in my location, so I’m regularly using Microsoft teams and WebEx. Also all the programs are accessible on my work laptop from home.
This right here! My commute is rather long. I spend about 2 hrs total of my day commuting to and from work. I could save so much time and money on gas if I was full time remote.
I can imagine people having fun getting lost in the flow of playing a competitive sport. I’ve also heard some people experience a post-workout high. But does anyone actually feel pleasure in the moment while lifting weights, jogging, cycling, etc?...
Depends on the exercise. My favorites are heavy squat and deadlifts. It’s just a good feeling increasing the weight every week and hitting new maxes while getting stronger.
I suck at bench so I’m never looking forward to that, but I’ve set goals to hit by the end of the year so I’m sticking to it.
Honestly now, I feel terrible when I don’t workout and it really affects my mental state.
Ok CNN. I’ll follow your lead and start using public transportation.
That just involves me leaving my house at 4am and driving 9 minutes to the local bus stop, then take a bus ride for 37 min, transfer from there to another bus for another 19 min ride, transfer to another bus and ride for an hour, then either call an Uber for a 3 min ride or I can walk for 30 minutes to reach my workplace.
Or… I can just drive and reach my workplace in 40min.
I would love to use public transportation, and when I lived in Japan that’s all I ever used, which I much preferred to a car.
America first needs to get serious about establishing actual reliable and accessible transportation in order for more people to use it.
Oh I know exactly what you mean. When I was in my government position I would write paragraphs of information as a response to what some may think was a simple question, but you’re right, in those types of positions you have to over explain because it saves a lot of headache going back and forth.
I believe most people just want more content than anything, but with opening it up to all of those other social media platforms, you get all of the junk that comes with it.
I personally left those platforms to get away from all of the social media drama, and I don’t mind less content as long as it quality.
