ImpossibilityBox,

I manag d to pick up almost every single game from this amazing series from GOG. Cool to see it coming to steam with the same treatment that Myst got.

ImpossibilityBox,

Hijacking this with my mini rant: GOOGLE if you provide me with three possible routes to my destination and I specifically select one… DON’T FUCKING CHANGE IT MID-DRIVE GODDAMMIT!

ImpossibilityBox,

The update works fine for me. No real complaints at all.

ImpossibilityBox,

Can we get a term like this for AI. I’m so goddam sick and tired of everything being called AI that clearly and obviously isn’t.

We developed a system that looks for red and when it sees red it KNoOOoOAwwWWss that it is seeing red and does stuff. It’s a super effective, ground breaking, world shaping, paradigm changing AI system. Give us money please.

ImpossibilityBox,

I play Hades, but I cheat.

It’s super fun to see what kind of ridiculous combinations of powers and weapons you can create when you aren’t worried about money or resources in any way shape or form.

I had a Hermes Build for Max speed that did bonus damage based on speed bonuses, Ares for Blade rift when dodging, and some Athena for some invulnerability.

Sprinting around the levels like the flash and absolutely nuking everybody with blade rifts is just too much fun.

ImpossibilityBox,

Just. Don’t. Play. Kacky.

You will lose your cool and hate existence. Even if you like kacky it will happen at some point.

ImpossibilityBox,

My sister uses it for both anxiety and sleep. It works wonders for her. I have tried every type of CBD supplement, oil, edible, shampoo, clothes, etc I’ve been able to get my hands on and have seen ZERO effect on me. Your mileage may vary.

ImpossibilityBox,

Almost annoying as all the media outlets and people calling machine learning AI. It’s genuinely tiring.

ImpossibilityBox,

From what I’ve read in different papers and talks on the subject the most concise definition for what a real AI would be is as follows.

The system must be self aware, understand it’s place in an environment, and be able to Reason, Adapt, and work towards internal goals.

If you ever want a good example of a failure of adaptability try playing chess with Chat GPT. Chat GPT is INCREDIBLE at what it does and is like nothing else we have ever seen.sometimes it seems downright spooky how good it can be at responding to normal requests and conversations. However It knows what chess is because it’s been trained on text that has the rules and the names of all the pieces. But because it is just a LLM which is effectively a word probability generator it can’t REASON what the game actually is or remember what pieces have been played or removed.

It’s like asking the deep blue chess computer to hold a conversation with you. It’s not happening.

Right now (to the best of my knowledge) there are no actual AI systems. Everything that is being called AI is just complex programs that are following EXACTLY what the programming has set in stone with no deviations.

The YouTube algorithm interestingly might be the one exception. If the rumors are to be. Believed it has grown so complex that YouTube itself doesn’t actually know how it works.

ImpossibilityBox,

LLM’s are a rather fascinating subject with lots of high level stuff that can be very daunting to understand. My laymans understanding is that generative systems such as Chat GPT are almost entirely probability based.

If I gave a LLM the following prompt: “in 2023 the current president of the United states is _____” fill in the blank. It would compare the prompt to its database of text and return Joe Biden with a 95% probability, Donald Trump with 4%, and some other random stuff for the remaining 1. It doesn’t actually KNOW what the prompt is and it doesn’t reason the answer. It’s only comparing what is in its database vs what’s been given to it.

This is why the larger the database it has the better answers it can return. True AI would be able to give you responses to anything having only been fed the contents of the dictionary. It could then reason what each word means and creatively form them into legible responses.

If you are interested in a very cool semi-interactive explanation of how generative systems work check out this website. I found it very fascinating.

ImpossibilityBox,

I’m an extrovert with a spinal injury. I’ve only left the house for doctors visits a half dozen or so times in the last 7 months.

It sucks.

ImpossibilityBox,

I love the vibe of this. Super cool.

ImpossibilityBox,

I’m not sure I have a favorite composer because it really depends on what mood I’m in.

That being said, Requiem Lacrimosa by Mozart is the greatest piece of music in history.

ImpossibilityBox,

Oh hell yeah. I came into the comments specifically to find this one.

ImpossibilityBox,

My literal thought upon seeing the thumbnail was “If it’s less than 2 hours long I’m not bothering.”

ImpossibilityBox,

I’ve got an Axolotl. Not sure where that falls on the spectrum of exotic pets.

They are pretty easy to get ahold of and apart from a chiller to keep the water at an appropriately cool temperature they are easy to take care of. That being said, every person that has come over to our place reacts with something along the lines of “WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING!”.

All I really need to do for it is top off the water every day or two and once a month or so replace 20% of the water with fresh water. It’s not even that critical to do that much water maintenance I just like to go for as clear water as possible.

Feeding is easy as well. Optimal feeding is once every 2-3 days but they can survive MUCH longer without food. Studies have shown up to 3 weeks is doable. This means if we are going to go on vacation for a week or a bit longer I just feed him once before we leave and then don’t worry about it.

ImpossibilityBox,

Dune gave me an erection for the rest of the day because of the sound.

ImpossibilityBox,

How is earth NOT a finite system?

ImpossibilityBox,

I had just sold a car and was flush with cash so before going to buy my new one I bought every single pillow I could find in every home goods store near me and several from online. I then spent the next month studiously comparing pillows to find the right one for me.

The final two came down to a $15 pillow and a $190 pillow.

After deciding all the other pillows got returned and then went and got my new car.

In things as subjective as a pillow high quality is rather Nebulous.

For something like a woodworking tool high quality often matters far more.

The worst life pro tip I’ve ever received? Listen to the experts, they have made it their job to know the best things and you can’t go wrong with what they say.

ImpossibilityBox,

I sold my 1985 Mercedes 500 SEL AMG and bought a 2007 Toyota Yaris Hatchback.

ImpossibilityBox,

In a similar vein, Tweezerman tweezers. There is absolutely none better than those. Razor fine edge that I’m convinced could pluck an electron off an atom.

ImpossibilityBox,

I ditched UBP for a Spigen case. It’s the only case I’ve found that has a low profile built in lens cover/shutter.

ImpossibilityBox,

Finally someone speaks the truth. Top 6 and top 12 is where it’s at right now.

ImpossibilityBox,

And the second that it is economically viable the companies will be dumping their bricklayers/carpenters down the drain and replacing them with computer controlled construction methods.

ImpossibilityBox,

Man, I miss r/cronch

ImpossibilityBox,

Oooo man, you almost ALMOST have tempted me back to reddit with that one. I somehow missed that subreddit and I feel a bit sadder for that.

ImpossibilityBox,

Or 85 posts a day by 3 different bots with one and only one commenter.

ImpossibilityBox,

Oh I’m absolutely certain they have gotten worse over time. We have had the same setup for YEARS with no changes and it’s been getting worse.

We would say “Alexa, praise the sun” which is our phase for all lights, maximum brightness and at the beginning it worked one hundred percent of the time.

Now it’s a 3 way roll of the dice whether it works, gives us a description of what the sun is, or plays a song called “Raise The Son”.

ImpossibilityBox,

Ooh, what kind of fish? I used to be deep in the world of aquarium fish before life had its way with me.

ImpossibilityBox,

Ahh man I love me some Cory’s.

We used to have an Orinoco basin themed tank, Corydoras Delphax, Otto’s, Cardinal tetras, Farlowella acus (twig catfish) and a couple of huge Altum Angelfish.

We had some luck with the Cory’s but just like you the Otto’s proved stubborn.

ImpossibilityBox,

I left reddit for all the obvious reasons but yeah… Lemmy is significantly lacking in the niche community engagement. Reddit was great for that and getting a REAL answer to something you were googling.

Aquariums, miniature painting, hell even on LemmyNSFW 90% of the posts are all posted by the same three bots that somehow always end up on the “Everything - Top/Active” page.

ImpossibilityBox,

You found that outfit and you didn’t immediately put it on astarion? I didn’t know it was possible to play BG3 incorrectly.

/s

This scene cracked me up as well. Such a dumb look on their faces. I love watching the characters in the background during cutscenes. They are either perfectly matching your expressions exactly at the exact time or just completely brain dead thousand yard stare into the distance.

ImpossibilityBox,

Pro tip. If you whisper your request to Alexa it will whisper back to you which will greatly decrease your chances of getting caught setting this up.

ImpossibilityBox,

The logo in the bottom corner is for Bad Dragon and Flint is one of the names of their dragon dick dildos. XL being the size.

ImpossibilityBox,

I apologize.

ImpossibilityBox,

I know that was a joke but I’m now trying to figure out how a governing body would define a “plank” in this instance.

ImpossibilityBox,

I love the cloak. Really cool paint scheme.

ImpossibilityBox,

I would say that you did.

ImpossibilityBox,

Man this one and the two part video with the cellist Giovanni Sollima were on repeat back in the day.

ImpossibilityBox,

I took the first step on the road to recovery by putting most my domains up for sale. At $5000 they are very reasonably priced and someone is going to pick them up very soon… Right?

ImpossibilityBox,

Reverse image searching this for… reasons, shows an original post date of a Facebook screenshot 2 years ago. Image generators were absolutely in their infancy and you would be lucky if you got a single finger with the correct amount on knuckles let alone the amount of hands here with the correct amount of fingers.

ImpossibilityBox,

It’s really bad compression. It’s a screenshot of a screenshot of a screenshot from 2 years ago. The original as far as I can tell is from Facebook. https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/1733875b-4aa3-4c02-a575-ee62a4e3be7a.jpeg

ImpossibilityBox,

It’s slightly over 2 years old, definitely not a generated image.

ImpossibilityBox,

I’ll offer him $10. As a measurement of a percentage of my personal wealth I am offering double what Elon is offering.

ImpossibilityBox,
ImpossibilityBox,

Thank you for making it easy to know who to block. I hope one day you are willing to have open communication with people you disagree with.

ImpossibilityBox,

It feels like goalpost moving has become a national past time for most places.

The thing I currently struggle with, but haven’t found an answer to, is deciding where the balance lies between affordable services and content creators earning an appropriate living.

I absolutely love Spotify. My current job has me listening to music for nearly 11 hours a day not including what gets played at home. Leaving aside the issue of discoverability, if I had to buy all the different albums I listen to from all the different artists I listen to my music budget would be a significant percentage of my yearly income.

I am keenly aware that Spotify does not pay the musicians well. The current compromise that I have is I buy albums or merch from the artists that I listen to the most or up and comings I want to support. Not perfect but it works right now.
