PC/Linux/Steam Noob here. I just got a game from GOG and I’m seeing tutorials mention Heroic, Lutris, and Wine via ProtonUp-QT as methods to get non-Steam games installed and running on Deck. Which method would you consider the easiest and most reliable for content from GOG, Ubisoft, Epic, etc…
With Meta beginning to test federation, there's a lot of discussion as to whether we should preemptively defederate with Threads. I made a post about the question, and it seems that opinions differ a lot among people on Kbin. There were a lot of arguments for and against regarding ads, privacy, and content quality, but I don't...
I’m not worried about dependency on content from threads. I’m primarily concerned with facebook’s data harvesting. I have a Facebook account, but I only touch it when I have to. All other aspects of my social life are pretty much divorced from Facebook. I fear that with federating, my activity will populate on their servers and they will feel completely entitled to all of it to train their AI and create advertising profiles without any consent. All of our activity will be free use for their profit.
I’d actually feel better if the process of federating required an EULA or something where the instance seeking federation must deny any right to use community content without explicit, signed permission from individual users.
Remote play in the house is excellent with Chiaki. I know it works across the web as well, but I can’t figure it out. It just doesn’t work and I have no idea if it’s the way I set up chiaki, the way I set up port forwarding, the way my router handles port forwarding, or simply the internet connection from which I’m attempting to connect. I wonder if the Portal has these issues, because not having to deal with any of that is actually a pretty solid selling point.

A few days ago I downvoted someone's comment, and the next day I happened to notice every single comment I've ever made had at least one downvote. I don’t know if this applies to your specific issue, but I’ve encountered situations on other hardware where the system recognizes the change of input device, but the emulators themselves do not. Try going into the emulator’s control settings to see if something needs to be configured there.
Been playing RDR Online with a friend, but had to make a new account because the email to my 10 year old account tied to my PlayStation is old and deleted, and rockstar support seems to be breaking the record for hottest garbage I’ve encountered so far.
I had my first Chiaki4deck streaming session from my OLED and was blown away by how unnoticeable the latency and clear the image was. It literally felt like I was playing the game native to steam deck. Getting HDR support as well is going to be a real treat.
I completely understand why Valve decided that the touchpad haptics were good enough, the deck is heavy as it is already. I’d still love to have the option of adding some proper rumble on the deck for the games that deserve it.
This is based off a tutorial I made for Mupen64 Plus on an Android based handheld, but since I got a steam deck, I wanted to get it working in Retroarch as well....
So, my personal experience of the installation is been a bit complicated by the tutorials i’ve find on YT. Basically I was stuck in the part where after the installation you need to change the directory (or add a new shortcut) for the launcher. Many video didn’t explain that or use a previous version of the OS with slightly...
Installing a launcher like this seems complicated enough that Ubisoft will have to offer a bigger carrot than just AC Syndicate to get me to jump through those hoops.
You're 100% correct, but I think this issue has a time limit. Fediverse already can pretty much do everything reddit and twitter does, but still has loads of potential to innovate in areas that those services won't/can't.
Just curious. Why do you think young men turn to violence when they feel like they’ve lost control of a situation? Do you think they do it because it’s just in their nature, or because many might have found themselves in situations where discussion gets ignored, pleading makes things worse, running inspires pursuit, and aggression made it all stop?
I’m not saying this to diminish the problem of domestic violence against women, or as an attempt to argue against any of the statistics. I just think angrily blaming men for violence rather than attempting to understand how such a problem manifests in the first place will not make anything safer for anyone.
(I hope I don’t regret jumping in on this discussion.)
If a family plans a trip that involves an international flight, accommodation and preparation, a €6 is not going to change a thing. This seems more like an easy, state-sponsored money grab than a legitimate effort to better manage over-tourism.
For older games that are difficult to install or run by modern means., I think remakes and remasters are completely justified. Upgrades for older games to support newer technologies is nice, but something like TLoU Part 1 getting two remasters on a platform that has no issue running the first remaster already seems more exploitative and a waste of resources than conservational. If it sells like hotcakes, though, who am I to judge?
I've had playstations for multiple console generations, but I just ordered an OLED Deck as my first ever "gaming PC". Forgive the naivety, but could non-supported titles potentially get Dualsense features modded in?
512 OLED ordered roughly an hour after it became available online in the EU. "Out for delivery" as of noon today, (Netherlands don't mess around) but it's nearly 7pm now and I'm wondering if the DHL delivery man is actually going to bother showing up today.
Edit: to this rant because I think they deserve it. I’m guessing they did have a ton out bot orders that they cancelled because they are back in stock and my order went through....
I just bought a 512 OLED here in Europe and it was unreal how easy it was to buy. I logged in an hour after sales went live, put in my information and clicked buy. That’s it. Estimated delivery in 3-5 business days, and I honestly don’t know if I actually trust that.
Edit: It arrived last night! They actually pulled it off!
Honestly, I think the anti-glare might have been fine. I got the 512 because it was cheaper and I had heard some of the concerns about the vibrancy of the anti-glare. In retrospect, I doubt I would have cared that much. Plus the extra storage and dual case would are a pretty compelling value proposition as well.
For me personally, trams are right up there. Taxes are stupid complicated. I imagine it’s perfectly possible that this guy just didn’t know he was supposed to do something with taxes when doing charity. I’d wait for the investigation to wrap up before jumping to conclusions on this.

While Take-Two is riding high on their announcement that a GTA 6 trailer is coming, its CEO has some…interesting ideas on how much video games could cost, part of a contingent of executives that believe games are underpriced, given their cost, length or some combination of the two.
While I’m not entirely inclined to disagree, I doubt his idea of how much an hour of gaming should cost your average player aligns very well with mine.
