These days it’s Baldurs Gate 3 but before that, it’s Grimdawn for ARPG itch or Stardew valley if I just want to turn a game on and afk alot. (Sometimes that’s Grimdawn too)

OK Microsoft... trying to log into Teams while work lapop updates to Windows 11. No longer works in any iPhone browser, including Edge. The app will not authenticate my work login. (lemmy.world)

Update…Per Microsoft’s instructions, disabled all tracking protections in Safari and requested desktop mode and it works. Their instructions say turn protections back on after using teams… 😐...

You know what’s great about Microsoft Teams compared to other chat apps? It’s super on point with updating your colleague’s status. There’ve been times I thought my colleague was MIA for hours, but turns out, it was just a glitch. A quick restart with the app and boom, we’re back in sync! 🤪

Was originally an Opera user (before they switched away from Presto), then switched to Firefox afterwards.

Firefox was my pick because it was good enough and extremely customizable.

Base on my experience, lower end phones (especially ones that does not have the latest android versions) struggles with Firefox.

They have these sorts of issues such as webpages refreshing when switching tabs or applications and etc.

As for me, I am in the same boat as you. No issues and pretty snappy imo.

Nope but I aint lying that there are communities that are not here that I do miss (since they never left Reddit).

Even if it isn’t, this is going to be one, I’ll put this as my “Windows is better than Linux copypasta”

ComeHereOrIHookYou,

Linux is great for some stuff, but unless there’s massive upgrades to where you can just hit “install” and something installs and works without fucking around in terminal

i.imgur.com/JFbxr3a.mp4

Wait what!? I just mark file as executable, run as program, and click nex then install.

Also on a more serious note, how easy is it to find apps on the software store too (yes, because most linux distros offer a software store now)

I remember encountering this issue before I switxhed to a more powerful one that can run multiple apps in parralel (split screen)

I didnt think it still existed now, but following the bug tracker, did you do the dom.ipc.processPrelaunch.lowmem_mb modification? I am quite curious

You need to delve deeper; from what I can see, there are people worshipping not only Google and Microsoft but even Meta!

Brands that don't buy enough Twitter ads will lose verification (www.theverge.com)

Starting August 7th, advertisers that haven’t reached certain spending thresholds will lose their official brand account verification. According to emails obtained by the WSJ, brands need to have spent at least $1,000 on ads within the prior 30 days or $6,000 in the previous 180 days to retain the gold checkmark identifying...

That’s the scummy thing, because Ubisoft is trying to blur the lines between owning a license and renting one.

Fucking scumbags.

ComeHereOrIHookYou,
@ComeHereOrIHookYou@lemmy.world avatar

I only knew about this via that website which got the news from twitter. I hope this gains huge enough traction for Ubisoft to change the policy from the backlash.

Although tbh, I am not expecting much, considering Ubisoft is trying to be the next EA these days.

GPU Sharing Between VMs and a Host

This seems like the final technology in containing and categorizing different PC uses into different virtual machines, while still having good feel even in contained things. If set up right you can have a seamless experience tabbing between a host system and virtual system, and you can do whatever you can normally do in either...

ComeHereOrIHookYou,
@ComeHereOrIHookYou@lemmy.world avatar

That would be awesome if we have seamless passthrough, let alone making a GPU be sharable across two or more VMs accessible to mainstream.

For now though its only available for enterprises, type 1 hypervisor and only for a limited set of hardware iirc.

Just this week or was it last week, I made a comment on some post that putting privacy aside, we should still be encouraging people to use Firefox instead of any chromium browsers to break control. It is good to see that right now I am just given a very good example why Chromium being a monopoly allows Google to control the spec (even if other companies are on board)

github.com/…/7cd99782c90bab4104725e821d11b18bc210…

This PR nails it

ComeHereOrIHookYou,
@ComeHereOrIHookYou@lemmy.world avatar

Well what do you expect when all of a sudden they started making their own browser over contributing to Firefox.

The entire reason why Chrome was created was for Google to push the web forward at their own pace. Away from the previous iteration that heavily relied on browser helper objects (plugins).

Here we are though, Google having a huge influence over the spec. Mainly because the competition weeded out to only Firefox remaining.

Sure, Edge might be considered competition for Google, but at the end of the day, Edge, Opera (unfortunately), Vivaldi, Brave, and similar browsers are essentially Chrome reskins.

PS: I am considering Edge as a competition for Google as Microsoft is well known for being EEE (Extend, embrace, extinguish). But more importantly, they have the man power to maintain their own fork if things do get out of hand.

ComeHereOrIHookYou,
@ComeHereOrIHookYou@lemmy.world avatar

The only thing I find Firefox inferior over Chrome is Webgl support. Specifically browser-based games.

Although they are playable on Firefox, they play much more smoother on Webkit and it’s sister, Chromium.

Like let us say you get 90fps on Webkit or Chromium, in Firefox you get around 50-60fps. That kind of difference which to gamers, may find off putting.

ComeHereOrIHookYou,
@ComeHereOrIHookYou@lemmy.world avatar

I was originally an Opera user (back when it was using Presto) back in the day, but I switched to Firefox during the last moments of the Presto engine. When Presto died, I worried a bit about the state of other browser engines, but I didn’t worry about it too much because I never thought Microsoft would use Chromium with their Edge browser. Yet, here we are.

Putting privacy concerns aside, we should encourage the use of Firefox because it helps promote browser engine diversity. The more diverse browser engines we have, the better it is for us, especially when it comes to innovation. I mean, it may be a bit different than the era of Internet Explorer, but since Google is leading the Chromium project, who knows what could happen.

They might remove a particular feature that was once very useful for whatever reason, and we could end up just accepting it because we can’t do anything about it.

If you are using Firefox, there is an addon that allows you to install websites as apps with isolated settings, cache, cookies and everything with the default Firefox profile (So even if you decide to clear browsing history, your apps will not get affected)

With their new upcoming UI that breaks existing Outlook addins (and sucks too btw) and this one. I can’t wait for people to do away with Outlook. I’m the only one at work that even uses Thunderbird (with Owl for exchange addon). Was laughing my ass last time that Outlook had a zero day and our IT was telling us to not use the Outlook app until the zero day is fixed.

Btw this is what the new Outlook looks like

It looks like the web version, breaks addons and alot of features that the current one has are missing.

What video game have you played the most, that you think is garbage and no one else should ever play?

I have played Eve Online so many hours, and it’s a bad game. Don’t do it. you will spend hundreds of hours dreaming about the cool thing you’ll do later, but for 99% of players the cool thing will never happen. You will be part of the one percent’s cool thing....

Drakensang Online. Originally started fine until Bigpoint sold it to the chinese and started doing crazy p2w shit called The Dark Legacy.

That update ruined builds, made veteran accounts look squishy and made long time players disappointed

Agreed, I use email alias services (Simplelogin, duck) whenever I sign up to a new service. Easier to control spam messages just by turning off the alias instead of having to manually add them to spam filters.

Then as a bonus, if a service the alias under in gets hacked. I just need to change passwords plus the virtual credit and debit cards. Ease of mind

YSK about corporations' strategies to kill open source protocols (ploum.net)

I saw this in another thread on /c/Showerthoughts. I think it's important for this to be circulated widely so that the broader Fediverse community is aligned. We don't want admins second-guessing their decisions when users start infighting. We should be united in our thinking and ready to protect our platform.

A digital speedpainting. A giant reaper with a golden chain around their neck with the logo of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and a headband with the meta logo. The giant silhouette surprise a tiny group in comparison; a warm scene of small cute characters gathered around a Fediverse glowing logo. This is my feelings in reference to the discussions about Meta joining the Fediverse...

I use to use Pidgin then move to Kopete. It even baffled me at one point how Kopete could connect to Facebook messenger and chat with my friends from Kopete and customize the chat interface to my liking. Good times good times.

I originally did but the maintenance burden was killing me. Then last year Proton unified their subscription with VPN and Mail (also upgrading my Proton VPN only subscription to Proton plus) and from there I decided to just go all in on Proton mail. I integrated my domain to Proton mail and never looked back.
