Bipta,

Can you elaborate a bit? Amazon reviews make it sound more academic and less actionable.

Bipta,

I'm on kbin and never see spam, ever...

Bipta,

I want my notification light back so badly!

Bipta,

It's definitely also not having children.

Bipta,

It's modified, but surprisingly close.

Bipta,

There are zero downvotes...

There is a ton of, "COVID is mild now" propaganda which is not supported by the science. More evidence points to increased immunity than a reduction in the lethality of the virus itself.

Omicron is less severe than Delta, but that's really misleading because Delta was the most dangerous variant.

Bipta,

I get where you’re coming from, but without actual evidence showing a clear organizational bias for a certain narrative

You mean like how they and others keep publishing articles saying, or intimating, that COVID is less severe now even though there's really no evidence for that?

It's the fact they keep doing it that makes it propaganda.

Bipta,

Speaking of that terrible idea: https://www.cnbc.com/2023/09/15/trump-bemoans-high-interest-rates-and-indicates-he-might-pressure-fed-to-lower.html

He's done it before and he promises to do it again. The absolute genius /s

Is there a way to convert radiation from atomic decay into energy directly, the same way we do sunlight with a solar cell? (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

Couldn’t we have a lead box lined with these radiation to electricity converters with a small amount of radioactive material in the center, and have an energy generating device that would last for thousands or even millions of years? Imagine putting the sun in a box lined with solar cells, but on a much smaller scale....

Bipta,

To add to your answer, the reason they're not used on Earth, besides the radioactivity dangers, is that they just can't produce very much power.

Bipta,

There's a minimum install limit before the fee kicks in. But since Unity can just make more retroactive rules, this strategy can implode at any moment.

Bipta,

You should maybe care about people even if you don't like their games...

Bipta,

That was always allowed..

New Vaccine Can Completely Reverse Autoimmune Diseases Like Multiple Sclerosis, Type 1 Diabetes, and Crohn’s Disease (scitechdaily.com)

Researchers from Pritzker Molecular Engineering, under the guidance of Prof. Jeffrey Hubbell, demonstrated that their compound can eliminate the autoimmune response linked to multiple sclerosis. Researchers at the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) have developed

Bipta,

I love these people that act like it's 1812 and great leaps in medicine are impossible.

Unity ...It Just Keeps Get Worse (youtu.be)

To say it’s been a bad week for Unity is the understatement of 2023. First they announced a terrible new Pricing scheme, then their customers revolted, as the week goes on though, it gets worse and worse for Unity, from threats from an employee shutting down their offices, to more studios threatening to leave, to scummy secret...

Bipta,

I assumed the threat was from a developer whose life's work is ruined by these terms. I wonder what the employee's motive was.

Bipta,

This is conclusive. Time of death 11:41, September 15.

Bipta,

Ukraine used cruise missiles to attack a Russian submarine today. Russia has been putting tires on their aircraft to protect them from drone strikes.

Bipta,

This meme is really only true for things like Slack where the app is just the webpage in an app, and even then it's not quite true because Electron is a lot heavier than a webpage because it has to now run the webpage and the app - which I think is terrible.

But then also, Electron enables actual apps to be developed using web standards - which I think is great.

TLDR: Use Electron to make apps, not glorified webpages.

Bipta,

It took a wrong turn in the 90s. There's been no real feasible way to fix it without breaking the web for many decades now. Some things are just forever despite their problems, like QWERTY.

Bipta,

I don't get the last panel.

Bipta,

Sorry for your loss; it's always difficult. I hope you're doing alright.

Signal is Flawed, Why XMPP is Amazing! (new animated video) (monero.town)

Some will curse me out for discussing decentralization and freedom. I am NOT saying the average person should be concerned with CIA spying. What I’m saying is that one should promote decentralized internet infrastructures that empower the individual over corrupt institutions, even though this threat model likely does not apply...

Bipta,

You derailed your entire post with this single line scare tactic:

So you’re trusting CIA military contractors.

Bipta,

They just believe anyone who isn't with them is against them. It's a common human failing.

Bipta,

Fetal Sex Organ Reveal Party just doesn't have the same vibe.

Bipta,

Nixon did a lot for improving environmental protections while also believing himself to be above the law in a way verging towards, "I am the state."

Bipta,

This is the core thesis of the article:

It's true that sometimes you have to write non-trivial types to convince the compiler that your data is correct.

That's okay. Creating maintainable code with high quality often requires putting in the hard work.

There's no real substantiation of the claim; just the claim itself.

Yes TypeScript is onerous but that's just alright.

Maybe it's true but it's a weak argument.

Bipta,

My sense is that this argument primarily holds for teams without thorough code reviews. For individuals or teams with good reviews, TypeScript adds little except for complex code or massive rewrites. I'm not saying it adds little in absolute terms, but that it adds little once you account for the overhead of using it.

Bipta,

That doesn't seem a fair assessment at all. In strongly typed languages the types are part of the base syntax and usually not onerous, but rather straightforward to write. In TypeScript they're tacked on in a way that makes quite a lot of work for developers while also making the code difficult to read and reason about (although good syntax highlighting certainly helps.)

Bipta,

You're taking away my ability to stop them from doing what they want!

Bipta,

Do you think you're smart labeling self defense an act of war?

Next time you see somebody getting bullied be sure to step in and tell them to stop engaging in bullying.

Bipta,

And they all feed and destabilize each other further throwing off our estimates.

Bipta,

This was a lot more appealing before COVID.

Bipta,

Google is also about to force on Enhanced Safe Browsing which will report every URL you visit to them with no opt out.

It's finally really time to change browsers.

Bipta,

I'm not happy with Vivaldi coming from Chrome. Are there any other good options out there?

Bipta,

YouTube says I can't save this video for later because it's made for kids? What kind of dumb fucking shit?

Bipta,

There's no update for older iPhones or Macs yet.

Bipta,

This guy couldn't even avoid blaming the Clintons in his confirmation hearing. I have zero confidence in him and neither should you.

Bipta,

No doubt but he seemed to have genuine concern for his own troops at least, which makes him a more honorable monster than Putin, but a monster just the same.

Bipta,

The Russian pilot who defected to Ukraine is poised to get a hefty reward from his home country's sworn enemy.

Sworn enemy? Two years ago the Russians were telling us we couldn't begin to understand the depth of their bond with Ukrainians.

Bipta,

Actually they delayed a similar change back in 2011 under Obama and that delay ended up adding 4 years, and then we got Trump the next year.

So clearly this is sound reasoning and we should just keep breathing toxic air. /s

Bipta,

can’t choose what utility companies run into your home,

This is the most farcical complaint. I guess sometimes you can pay a lot to get a new utility option to your owned home, but that's usually not an option.

Bipta,

30 ISPs? You're outside of the United States, I guess?

Do younger people go home earlier now? Or go out less? Is it since COVID?

Someone asked a question about how frequently young people have time to socialize and it made me think about what people do with their evenings. I recently asked my son to go to a concert (free ticket to see a band i know he likes) and he declined because it was an hour away on a weeknight. If we invite our kids or niece/nephew...

Bipta,

And not even a 24 hour Walmart.

Bipta,

Maybe near you... A hundred or more in some places.

Bipta,

It helped me but people shouldn't expect miracles.

Bipta,

That's what I thought at first but it's been almost two years and the low energy levels never passed. It also got notably worse on day three. Hoping the best for you.
