I live in northern Mexico, so my culture is heavily influenced by both American and Mexican culture of course!!! But if I ever visit the United States, specifically the southern states. Would I feel different in those states? Thank you.
If you’re in a city in Texas, you’ll easily find people to connect with and will have little/no issues. In rural areas, you’re likely to find people who are less accepting of different lifestyles.
I love bridges. If I see a cool looking bridge, I want to cross it, especially if it goes somewhere that I’m not familiar with. Same with stairs outdoors. They feel like an adventure to me.
I used one note for work for a few years and it was good, but then i had a problem with it not always syncing correctly. Have you had that happen at all? I switched to Google drive but I’m wondering if i should go back to one Note.
American - in my life i think I’ve heard two people talk about gun collections. One is an idiot. The other one just mentioned it because she was telling me a story about moving her father-in-law’s things and getting stopped at a federal checkpoint with guns in her car.
In my setting, I’m exposed to a lot of people day by day, and sometimes I meet people who are celebrating things I’ve never heard of before. It sometimes feels like a Spongebob episode, I’m talking to them and they might say something like “we’re observing national hat day today” or “we’re celebrating Hiawatha...
Not holidays, but i had a new kid who wore a cultural head covering and the other little kids voted for him for crazy hat day and he won an ice cream sandwich. They were 6 year olds who didn’t understand and we didn’t know what to do, so we gave him the ice cream.
He was happy because he got ice cream and kids told him, “I like your hat.” This was the second day of summer school and his first day so they’d never seen it before. Luckily it turned out ok.
We love darts. If you find a good dart bar you can have a couple of hours of fun for the price of a soda. During covid we hung our board on our backyard fence so we could have friends over for game night.
I love her, blew my mind she used to be a top GOP operative in the sense that she seems so fair if very assertive and excellent at keeping things on track
I dunno…distractions, too much commitment, feels indulgent,… ? Just got a book for my birthday and read the first 100 pages aloud in the car because my husband and son wanted to hear it. Now it’s been on my coffee table for two weeks and I’m struggling to pick it back up.
I have a friend who teaches high school history and has traveled a lot. She’s great at this! I feel like i can talk to her about almost anything and she never makes me feel stupid.
When i was younger (before kids) i read a lot - mostly Stephen King and classics and it’s still what i really like. Kids are grown, but i have a hard time saying, “I’m going to sit here for an hour and read.” There’s always something to do…bills, husband, animals, house, yard, etc. and when i veg I mostly turn to mindlessly browsing my phone because it’s 2 minute chunks that you can put down anytime. After 15 years of working at the same job i just found out that my lunch break is 60 minutes instead of 30 - maybe I’ll bring a book and try to use that time to read.
Even if they did, won’t they get a lot of false positives because of a large amount of it being sprayed hemp buds that are legal as hemp? Also, I know a lot of dispensaries get their stock like vape pens and such delivered this way already. How does that all work?
It’s totally normal in the US. I get a monthly subscription delivered along with other occasional orders. Former president cheeto signed the 2018 farm bill essentially making it federally legal. A few states have banned it, but most places it’s fine.
I didn’t realize there was a time limit on the non-payout. That’s good to know. Friend of a friend just took his life and I’ve been worried about the kids. Hopefully they will be taken care of.
10 years ago, I’d have put my ability to visualise at 0 out of 10. Practice and occasional halucinogen use has got me to 2 out of 10. It causes no end of problems in day to day life, so I’m interested to hear if anyone has tips or just experiences to share so it doesn’t feel such a lonely frustrating issue....
It’s pretty wild how we never think about other people having different methods of thought. When i learned that some people can hear in their heads i googled a bit and found some interesting articles about thinking in words, pictures, and patterns. There’s a Temple Grandin book about it - haven’t read it yet.
I lost my mom recently and it makes me sad that i can’t see her in my head. I ‘meet’ the same people repeatedly. I’m worried that i won’t recognize my family one day.
Oh, with a song. I dunno, i just think of the words and try to get the verses right and feel like i want to sing it. What’s it like when you get a song stuck?
I can think words or practice a speech in my head, but i don’t see or hear anything. Like how when you’re counting things, you don’t see or hear numbers in your head, you just count. I don’t know. I just learned in the last few weeks that some people do see and hear stuff.
Is that how you write songs - by hearing then in your head first? I’ve wondered how musicians, artists, etc. produce art. I’ve started asking people if they have voice or images and most have the same reaction of shock that other people do or don’t.
Some Spanish and a little Italian, but I don’t use it enough, so I still normally still think in English and then translate. I don’t really know how to describe what that feels like but I don’t think it’s auditory. Maybe there is a flash of a visual memory of the written words? Brains are so weird! This all started for me a few weeks ago when a co-worker was talking about something and said, “… your inner voice.” I got irritated because I thought she had just told me to use my indoor voice and the conversation went on around our office about who does and doesn’t have an inner voice. Since then I’ve been asking everyone if they hear a voice or see pictures. It’s really interesting how some people have one or the other or none or both. I think the 3 to 5% no-image thing is very under reported.
if I visited Texas or California, would there be a huge culture shock??

Do life insurance rules that deny payment after suicide discriminate against those with mental health issues? If those rules didn't exist would suicide rate increase?
Is the discrimination worth it as a deterrent? Or is it just to save the instance companies $$$?
