Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Committing Fully To Netplan For Network Configuration (www.phoronix.com)

The Canonical-developed Netplan has served for Linux network configuration on Ubuntu Server and Cloud versions for years. With the recent Ubuntu 23.10 release, Netplan is now being used by default on the desktop. Canonical is committing to fully leveraging Netplan for network configuration with the upcoming Ubuntu 24.04 LTS...

Netplan makes more sense for the desktop then it does for a server because yaml is UI friendly. For the server it just adds an unnecessary level of complexity.

DS9 dabbled into politics in ways the other series never did, to the point of a culture conflict, war, genocide, oppression, occupancy, etc.

Mint never worked well for me, would regularly fail to load the data from my bank and sometimes it would even create duplicates.

I just use a spreadsheet now. Pretty much all banks have an export feature, i setup a column with category dropdowns

Another one-

When you’re at something social in a large group setting and done talking to someone you don’t have to let it linger and get all awkward.

You can just say “hey this was a nice chat! I’m going to go talk to other people now!”

It’s that simple. And that’s a totally normal way to end a conversation that people will react well to and appreciate. You can jazz it up “eg let’s do this again/how can I contact you/” but the basics don’t change.

I used to over think everything to the point of paralysis and get real awkward and anxious. Now I just communicate what I want directly but politely and it works out much better.

Probably one of the best games I ever played. I came for the visuals because I finally got an RTX card and stayed for the halflife vibes.

It’s the closest thing I’ve played to OG halflife. You get that similar feel of isolation and heroism, a lot of WTF is going on, some weird entity that is omnipresent, great gun play and action, and is almost entirely indoors. Story is more robust like HL2 evolved the genre.

Mike Johnson Said Same-Sex Marriage Would Lead to People Marrying Their Pets, Wanted to Sentence Abortion Doctors to “Hard Labor” (www.vanityfair.com)

By now you’ve likely heard that Representative Mike Johnson—the congressman Republicans finally elected as the new Speaker of the House after 22 days of chaos—played a significant role in the plot to overturn the 2020 election, a lowlight on his résumé that is obviously deeply concerning for the future of democracy. Also...

yup like this guy former Idaho Senator Larry Craig - staunch opponent of LGBTQ+ rights caught cruising for dick in a public bathroom. To be clear, the problem isn’t that he was doing gay stuff, but that he was a hypocrite about it and was clearly projecting his own insecurities into law.

“Women have unrealistic standards” is essentially the incel ethos for existence. OP is just one sentence short of calling them “Stacey”.

Album,
@Album@lemmy.ca avatar

while expecting a man who has a career, refusing to drive and expecting men to chauffeur them around, expecting men to have a variety of friends and interests while doing nothing but watching TV all day, etc.

This is the most incel thing i’ve read in a while. I don’t know a single woman like this. If you do, you’re hanging around with the wrong crowd and that’s on you. If you don’t then you’re just eating up incel bullshit to feel better about your own lackings.

Album,
@Album@lemmy.ca avatar

How are those things even remotely comparable?

Are you saying that by my identification of your general attitude towards women - generalizing them all as do-nothing, expect everything - somehow is the same as denying that people need abortions?

The problem with incels is their lack of self introspection and the assignment of all their problems to an external cause - a small percentage of society with unrealistically high standards - which is not something even specific to women.

A well adjusted person just thinks - “Gee i don’t want to associate with that type of person and I understand that it’s a small subset of the total population of women. Let me work towards finding women who have realistic expectations which is the majority while simultaneously looking at myself to understand why women with realistic expectations might still not be interested in me”

Vs the incel who gets on the internet to rage that all women are staceys and are only interested in chads. The problem isn’t me it’s everyone else!

Album,
@Album@lemmy.ca avatar

For example, women living with parents while expecting men to have their own place, women who are obese but are only interested in fit men, working part time while expecting a man who has a career, refusing to drive and expecting men to chauffeur them around, expecting men to have a variety of friends and interests while doing nothing but watching TV all day, etc.

OP’s words verbatim.

Gambling is designed to be addictive.

It’s similar to how tobacco ads are not allowed.

I used to be like this. Once you learn to let go the anxiety won’t keep you up. It’s counter intuitive in a cruel way. But that’s life the more enraged you are at the lack of control you inevitably have the farther you are from achieving your desired goals.

No Google fit connects into this. It allows apps like Fitbit, Samsung health and Google fit to all have the same data.

So I don’t have to tell my watch how much I weigh, my Fitbit scale tells the Fitbit app and that syncs with google connect so that Samsung health can then pass that to galaxy 5 watch.

I’ve lived in both US and Canada.

In Canada, my mother had cancer stayed in a private room for weeks until she died and we only paid for the phone bill for her room and parking. I didn’t get a bill from the hospital at all. No claims on insurance.

I had a baby in 2021 and again my wife had a private room while she recovered from her C section and my infant was in the NICU for a week. No bill from the hospital, no claims on insurance. Just paid for parking.

My wife who is type 1 diabetic had 100% of her needs covered through the ontario healthcare system.

I hear stories that in Ontario you have to wait for non-urgent care due to Premier Doug Ford not paying nurses enough, but I have not seen this personally.

I had work coverage that provided dental, vision, and drug coverage if needed.

In the US, I’m 100% dependent on work provided benefits AND I have to pay $4k a year for those benefits. Wife went for some routine work done and it was covered by work insurance. In ontario it would have been a no cost thing too, no dealing with insurance. We wouldn’t have waited in Ontario, we didn’t wait here either.

There seem to be waits here for specialists. Haven’t had to go to the hospital for anything yet.
