Secondly anyone who said FURI - that game is a masterpiece and the OST is so well tied into the fights it’s hard to separate them. Seriously, they gave the artists details on the bosses and their arena, fighting style and other notes and said make a song that fits

PrivateNoob,

Then there are good amounts of based people here. I’ve seen FURI 2-3 times if I’m right.

DKC2 has one of the most beautifully-melancholic soundtracks of all time imo. I was enamored by it as a child, and as a young adult, realized how influential it was for me during the time in my life I made music myself. David Wise really is something else.

Xenoblade Chronicles. 2 in particular.

Came here to say this. Not only is it a great OST, but it’s great enough that I feel no desire to mention any other game. As an OST to listen to, it’s truly top notch, and imo best of class.

I’m back with more.

  • Tunic
  • HI-FI Rush (just-playit-playit-playit)
  • Journey
  • ABZU
  • DMC 5
  • Transistor (some tracks have lyrics, but only on the second playthrough)
  • RUINER (absolute GEM of a game)
  • FURI (the whole game is just boss fights, and EVERY one has a sick ass theme)
  • Gris
  • All Homeworld games

  • Metal Gear Rising
  • That one Maze sequence in Control
  • Stellaris
  • Deus Ex: HR and MD
  • Wolfenstein: The New Order (Mick Gordon, same as Doom)
PrivateNoob,

I’ve already played with Wolfenstein, but you got me there with Katana ZERO. Thank you for the list!

I don’t know about the other games, but The Expanse: A Telltale Series released this year.

Rose,

Fixed! I think it was the only exception, though the better way to title my post would have been to say “older”. Even a 2022 game isn’t old.

EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted, in I’m playing Metroid Prime 2 and am a little stressed about the ammo. Would using an infinite ammo cheat ruin the game?

You will get ammo upgrades. Just explore when/as you can. That is how you get upgrades in metroidvania games. Explore, get new things, use new things to explore more, get more new things, rinse & repeat.

M500,

Thanks! I’ll move forward without cheats.

mojo, in I’m playing Metroid Prime 2 and am a little stressed about the ammo. Would using an infinite ammo cheat ruin the game?

This literally only matters to you. If you enable that cheat and beat the game, and it doesn’t bother you, then go for it. I know it would eat away at me so that’s why I wouldn’t do it.

aMockTie, in I’m playing Metroid Prime 2 and am a little stressed about the ammo. Would using an infinite ammo cheat ruin the game?

I feel like the ammo aspect is a big part of what makes the game challenging. Like others have said, you can always get more ammo by using the opposite beam (i.e. killing enemies with the light beam gives dark beam ammo and vice versa), and you can also use the charge beam for a free shot even with 0 ammo.

All of that put together can lead to some of the most exciting boss battles where you’re out or almost out of ammo but still have a chance to get the final blow in before they do. Infinite ammo wouldn’t necessarily ruin the game overall in my opinion, exploring would still be fun and exciting. But it would certainly rob you of those exciting moments.

M500,

Thanks, this is what I was worried about. Will there be exciting moments around ammo. If it was something that just added a grind to the game, then I would not mind using cheats.

This is what I was hoping to hear about the game. I will forego the cheats.

M500,

Thanks, I did not know that you could still charge shot while at 0 ammo. This makes a big difference for me. Part of the stress was worrying about having ammo to solve a puzzle.

Slay the Princess

What a crazy, unexpected gem. Without spoiling anything, it’s a hand-animated interactive narrative game with strong Stanley Parable influences.

scubbo,

That came across my recommendation queue the other day - despite my dislike for horror, it looks interesting enough that I might check it out!

InquisitiveApathy,

I don’t think I would classify it as a horror game really. It’s got some gritty subjects that it dives into and there are a few storylines that can be a bit gruesome, but overall it wasn’t really scary. It was more witty and philosophical at its core.

I watched a stream of someone who played through every ending because the game is just captivating and so well done.

scubbo,

Appreciate the feedback, thanks!

SMT Nocturne, it looks as if I’m about to battle with the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Old game I know, but old is great 👍

The Sims 2.

PrivateNoob,

The nostalgia, oh man. Sims 2 and 3 was something different. Sad to see that Sims 4 became a lackluster game.

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

There are lots of mods you can get to improve TS4, but you’re right, it’s missing something fundamental. Even things like genetics are so dumbed-down as to be almost pointless

PrivateNoob,

I’m mostly missing the open world aspect with live transportation, which should be a given.

DaveedMee,

Also the Sims 1 Build and Buy themes. Build mode 3 is a absolute bop!

flontlocs,

I guess the emergent chaos can stand in for the story?

LunarLoony,
@LunarLoony@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

While it’s mostly about the stories you create yourself, there is actually a storyline you can play through! Each of the three default neighbourhoods has a specific order of events. You kinda need a walkthrough to know where to start and when to switch families, but it’s all there for the playing. I didn’t even realise that until last year, and I’ve been playing TS2 since launch

Pokemon for the OSTs. Always so good, from the first games to the most recent ones.

PrivateNoob,

Hmm haven’t played Pokemon games. Which one would you recommend as a start?

SuperSpruce,

Depends on your preferred platform.

For emulators or GBA, Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald is a good choice with one of the best OSTs in all of Pokemon

Black/White is another good choice with a banger OST for emulators or DS. Also has the best story imo.

If you have a 3DS, or prefer an easier Pokemon game, OR/AS (Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire) is a really good remake of Ruby/Sapphire.

Many recommend FireRed/LeafGreen as a first pokemon game, but the OST isn’t as good imo.

Chozo, in I hate Majora’s Mask!

Majora's Mask is my favorite game. Not just favorite Zelda, but favorite game, period. It always breaks my heart to see people not being able to enjoy it the way I enjoy it, because there's so much excellent storytelling in that game. While Nintendo deconfirmed the "stages of grief" fan theory, it's still a lot more fun playing through the game with that theory in mind, because it truly fits the game so well, and adds a lot of depth to the experience.

For what it's worth, the 3DS version is far superior to the original N64 release. Lots of QoL improvements (though I'm actually not a fan of how the bosses were redesigned) and some progression elements were streamlined a bit. I feel like most people playing MM for the first time are doing themselves a disservice playing the original.

M500,

I’ll look up the quality of life changes. One random thing that I really struggled with was the music. I think it was partly due to the way it’s mapped on the switche and the “a” button is low on the music scales but high on the switch controller.

Dangdoggo,
@Dangdoggo@kbin.social avatar

Nintendo 'deconfirmed' it because that would be sad and they don't want to publically say "yes Majoras Mask is a sad." Doesn't fit the brand. That being said, Majoras Mask is about grief. The lead Dev lost his daughter right before production, whether it was intended or not the game is absolutely chock a block with this constant repeating theme and it's why the game is special.

AILDMisfits,

I don't think the 3DS is far superior at all. There's nice QoL for sure. The change to Zora swimming to use magic was a dumb decision and the deku scrub water jumps feel terrible. Not to mention the whole game is brighter compared to the N64 version, which ruins the atmosphere to me. I like both versions, but the 3DS is more accessible, not superior imo. Here's a good video about it if anyone is interested https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=653wuaP0wzs

prole,

There is a ROM hack of the 3DS version that fixes all of those issues
