The Insider’s Simon Ostrovsky gets to the bottom of what Russia’s deteriorating relationship with Israel could mean for the war in Ukraine as well as its position in the Middle East.
Epic already have itch.io, Spotify, Discord and more on their store. Each has its own payments system. Microsoft also distributes the Epic launcher via its store.
Huge win for Epic Games in their court case against Google. The court decided that Google’s Play app store operated as an illegal monopoly and the case also challenged the transaction fees of up to 30% that Google imposes on Android app developers....
Upgrading to DirectX 11 and 64-bit is a valid reason. The Linux version would probably require a rewrite for the 0.3%. Compare this to Valve making Steam unavailable on Windows 7 despite it being used by 0.75% of their users.
In the post I linked, they talk about issuing refunds and that the game is played well via Proton, so I wouldn’t classify that as telling the users to get effed. And again, it’s not unheard of for games and software to no longer support specific operating systems after a while. If you’re a Windows 7 user, your whole Steam library would become unavailable unless you switch. Sure, you can upgrade, but a Linux player of Rocket League can also switch to the Proton/Wine version, which is even less drastic.

AOSP keyboard also supports swipe typing when the right library is in place, but I don’t think you can get it without flashing a new ROM or via root access.
Perhaps like many here, I haven’t played enough 2023 games to make a confident choice in every category of the Steam Awards, so I looked for games from the prior years, released in 2023 on Steam.
While I don’t agree with the idea of a 2019 game being named the game of the year in 2024, the choice is there and we might as well use it and remind Valve that their system is flawed.
You’re lying to yourself. They pay a fixed amount for the giveaway and it doesn’t matter if the games are claimed. If anything, you owning a game on Epic means you’re more likely to mention it to your friends and possibly get them to use the platform and spend on it.
I’m pretty sure the prices are based on the projected sales using industry knowledge and tools like SteamSpy, created by Epic’s head of the publishing strategy at the time. It’s not common that a publisher participating in a giveaway would get to use their own figures from a prior giveaway to change the price offered by Epic, while the others’ figures are available only for the games in those leaks. In other words, claiming many copies in the present is extremely unlikely to have any effect on the future buyout prices.
I have no idea why this is newsworthy. Epic’s own 2019 documents and testimony in the Apple trial showed that the company did not expect the store to be profitable until 2024 or even 2027. The strategy of heavy investment and operating at a loss to turn a profit later worked for Spotify, Netflix, Microsoft, and many others. Even this week, there are headlines like “Elon Musk Says SpaceX’s Starlink Achieves Breakeven Cash Flow”.
The claim specifically mentions Epic and quotes a Valve employee who made statements to the effect of it being prohibited, irrespective of whether a Steam key is involved. Read from page 47 and pay attention to the last paragraphs of page 55.
You can’t deny that Epic taking 12% revolutionized the industry, with Microsoft following suit and even Valve making some small changes. As Gabe himself said on the competition, “it keeps [them] honest”. That’s a win for game creators.
For the gamers, we got many free games and I think the Epic freebies inspired Microsoft to offer similar deals with Game Pass, Amazon with Prime, and even GOG recently gave away a pretty notable game, Blacksad, which was uncharacteristic in relation to their past giveaways.
The US political system is clearly not about the parties being consistent but about them opposing just for the sake of it. When Obama was all friendly with Putin, he was opposed by McCain and Romney who spoke out against Putin’s invasion of Georgia, with McCain regularly meeting the Russian opposition, including his friend Boris Nemtsov who would end up murdered by the Kremlin at Putin’s order.
I’ve played through so many that it’s hard to remember, but of the recent ones I really like Control. Its combat was great and the approach to physics felt revolutionary, while I also liked the idea of an extremely powerful woman as its protagonist.
Gameloft was intending this game to be F2P on release, but they’ve backtracked on the decision and decided to keep it a paid game. Note that the game still has microtransactions.
It was established a while back. Multiple sources question the existence of the Legion as a real military force, which would mean that the only standalone group of Russians fighting for Ukraine was the neo-Nazi RVC. It’s natural that some wanted there to be an alternative.
ChatGPT is worse than Duolingo. The former will study and likely store how you talk, what you ask about and so forth. On Duolingo, unless you speak in the mic, you never have to reveal anything.

Not at all. He literally invested in keeping same-sex marriage outlawed, so to him it’s clearly important to be able to control people’s private lives.
Russia is already actively blocking VPNs both by restricting access to the servers and by blocking the UDP ports used by the VPNs. There is no solution except to choose the ports that are untouched yet or by using a VPS as a proxy. Going the TCP route cripples the maximum speed, so the ban is effective in forcing Russians to give up and connect directly.
The visuals are really good but there are times when the game leaves no apparent clues as to where to go next. The path forward may be on a different floor, even if already visited and fully explored.
There’s also a point near the end when you see the door, but the interface to open it is hidden on the big location, again with no hints to where it is. In the original, the areas are comparably minimalistic, making it easier to notice.
It’s defensible only from the perspective that it’s safer to flag many innocent apps than to miss something harmful. That said, it heavily punishes many legitimate developers and creators, as documented here. I was personally affected on many occasions and there hasn’t been a single one where Microsoft wouldn’t admit to false-flagging upon a manual review.
