corsicanguppy, in Vancouver Island’s Myra Falls Mine not ‘financially viable,’ going into maintenance - BC | Globalnews.ca

Options available

  • announce closure 2 months ago and move to reduce shifts
  • announce closure 2 weeks ago and hope people didn’t replace a car or book a trip

  • blind-side everyone so only the c-level gets a parachute and the plebes get a Christmas worse than whoville.

Good job, guys. When/if the mine re-opens, this or any management, enjoy being on cash-only terms forever. That town is small enough that names will be circulated and their next companies will be on cash-only. We’ve seen how they conduct business.

Is there a shortage of rabbits?

If you think euthanizing those food-animals is bad, you should see what they do to pigs.

NotMyOldRedditName, in B.C. gang unit announces bust of major trans-Canada drug operation - BC | Globalnews.ca

I’m surprised they aren’t announcing it as they saved 550,000 lives assuming the fentynal will kill exactly 1 person per lethal dose. None of that kinda comparison in the article.

I’m still waiting for the bust that happens that manages to kill every single Canadian.

Not even a mention of street value.

Just the facts.

Did they hire the wrong person by mistake to write the article, this is, unusual.

JohnnyCanuck, in B.C. gang unit announces bust of major trans-Canada drug operation - BC | Globalnews.ca

Police also seized 1.1 kilograms of fentanyl, 3.6 kilograms of methamphetamine, 2.5 kilograms of cocaine, one kilogram of MDMA and various quantities of other drugs.

Umm… Isn’t that pretty small? (as far as “major” drug operations go…)

PPC? Buddy should’ve taken a few more humanities courses and learn about people.

villasv, in PPC Candidate lied.

I agree with the engineer, this is kinda ridiculous.

I don’t disagree with the court decision, but the whole affair is barely newsworthy.

rbesfe,

Like it or not, engineer is a regulated title in Canada and is only allowed to be used by licensed individuals. He could have just said “I have an engineering background” and been fine.

anonymoose, in PPC Candidate lied.
@anonymoose@lemmy.ca avatar

Having read through the article, “lied” seems to be a strong claim here, especially since the article does not state that either. He has an engineering degree, has the iron ring and has worked as an engineer designing morherboards.

Apparently because he is not licensed in BC, he isn’t allowed to refer to himself as an engineer. That is a civil matter that has now been settled by the court, but I don’t think that counts as lying. It’s unfortunate that politics are making us so reactive and tribal these days.

akacastor,

Although to many of us who aren’t engineers, some of the rules may not be obvious and it may look like an honest oversight - if you know any engineers, they have these rules absolutely drilled into them by the time they’ve earned a degree.

For someone with no engineering background to make a mistake like this is easy to explain. When someone with an engineering degree does it - they absolutely did know what they were doing is against professional regulations.

David Hilderman is a liar.

sbv, in $115 M funding deal could help build 40,000 homes in Vancouver over decade: Trudeau

It’d be cool if the article explained how the $2,875/home would help get them built. And how the 4,000 homes/year would affect the housing market.

SamuelRJankis, (edited )

The idea that’s being sold with the housing accelerator funds is not just specifically them building homes with it but forcing cities to adopt more development friendly policies that would allow for additional housing.

From the article and it also mentioned twice.

Fraser said of the Vancouver deal that the cash from the government’s Housing Accelerator Fund would cut barriers to building homes and “incentivize changes” at the municipal level.

It really wish people would stop being coy with what they want.

sbv,

Fraser said of the Vancouver deal that the cash from the government’s Housing Accelerator Fund would cut barriers to building homes and “incentivize changes” at the municipal level.

This reads like a press release. There’s no explanation of what the money will be used for.

What are the changes? Why will they cause extra building? What’s the likelihood that the homes will actually be built? Who will be able to afford them?

It really wish people would stop being coy with what they want.

I’m not sure what you mean. Are you asking what I want?

If so: I’d like to be able to afford a home in the near future. I’d also like my kids to be able to afford a home in a decade or two.

corsicanguppy,

I’d like to be able to afford a home in the near future.

If by ‘a home’ you include a vast and hoarded greenspace, I think you’re on track to learn about land costs.

A region that is, in places, more densely-populated than manhattan, needs to be realistic about shared greenspace.

sbv,

If by ‘a home’ you include a vast and hoarded greenspace

I don’t.

SamuelRJankis,

This reads like a press release. There’s no explanation of what the money will be used for.

The article is about a press release. If you actually read the article you’re grossly misinterpreting what is being conveyed.

Asking this to get what you want is like asking a doctor how a good night of sleep next Tuesday effects your overall health for the year. There’s no reason for anyone to spend time trying quantify a singular activity when the results will clearly be determined by much larger aggregate of them.

Considering bridges are multimillion dollar that fine is nothing. Stop hiring people who can’t fucking drive

corsicanguppy,

… and/or working them to exhaustion so a simple checklist is too hard to get right.

Pyr_Pressure,

75% of issues on the highway that I see are caused by dump trucks. I fucking hate those things. They’re also responsible for 80% of the chips I get in my windshield. No dump truck driver seems to know how to drive, and no one on the road knows how to drive around dump trucks. I see people cut in front of them all the time and then slam on their brakes for some reason or another.
