I’m no expert on water bombers, but I wonder if the heavier use of helicopters has to do with the ease of getting water? As I understand it, water bombers need a pretty sizable body of water to do their thing and that’s not always available (or if it is, it could be a longer flight away).
Probably; that bomber used to fill up at Sproat Lake and then respond to fires all over Vancouver Island and the inner islands. It had amazing range, but after each dump it would have to fly all the way to a large freshwater lake with a clear central filling lane.
I remember when I was young hearing stories of someone hiking Strathcona Park and finding snorkel and flippers in an old burn, but that’s technically impossible with the Martin Mars configuration. Makes a good story though.
Hasn’t there been some research that hot weather makes people more aggressive? I wonder if that would translate to making them more likely to go through calling 911
There was an article not too long ago about an increase in accidental 911 calls due to increase in smart phone usage and wearable smart watches which can also accidentally call 911.
If you had the same question about the headline that I did:
Renewable diesel is the term given to a biomass-based fuel that is chemically equivalent to petroleum diesel. This means it can be transported directly in petroleum pipelines or sold at retail stations without any infrastructure modifications or fuel blending.
Renewable diesel can be made from vegetable oil, animal fats, used cooking oil or even algae.
I don’t feel great about this. I guess it technically counts as renewable, but aren’t we still burning and expelling carbon into the atmosphere?
The “government funded source” thing is Conservatives forgetting that Canada isn’t like America: our ‘government funded’ stuff has an arms-length position like the CRTC and the RCMP. And while the former forgets its mandate, we all (should) remember that none of them serve at the express pleasure of any particular prime minister
… even the ones who want to run the country and can’t take some hard questions from a media they don’t control.
True. And, if you believe the workmates, the real estate market is a buyer’s feeding frenzy. Get some summer houses – some are there, and some are there.
Anyone know how a 4-category scale is different than letter grades? Not saying it isn’t, it just isn’t clear in the article.
Hopefully it’s a step toward having fewer grades at all. There’s a lot of research showing how harmful extrinsic rewards are to children’s motivation to learn.
The cisgender-centred power around this story ignored the background of why this happened and the immense, traumatic impact on the trans community. I am only aware of one media organization that interviewed a person from the local trans community. And we must ask ourselves the question, would the outrage have been the same if the girl had been trans?
Unfortunately, the answer is no.
The answer is no because a lot of people feel like having transwomen in a women competition is not fair. That said, it wouldn’t matter in this case because this is 9-10 byears old sport event.
This whole article is baiting major outrage because a man decided to be an asshole. This kind of article is the reason why so many people are a less and less sympathetic to LGBTQ stuff.
Not surprising. Times are tough all around, those who had to give have less to give, and those who didn’t are in need more than ever. That said, we’ve got to help where we can, even if it’s not all that much.
Less than 1% increase in vote share for BC United (and still only 13.77%) in Vancouver Mt. Pleasant, and Mike Harris (BC Conservatives) ate their entire lunch and stole their dessert too in Langford.
BC United cannot be happy about this result, definitely not what they wanted. They now have to be very worried about individual strong conservative candidates destroying their vote share from the right.
