Yeah it’s more than just an arc in Mr. Robot, it’s an important part of pretty much the whole show

Huge Mario fan here, I unironically think the 90s movie is better.

I wasn’t even born when that movie came out so don’t “hur durr nostalgia” me

Look, I’m sorry you’re cat died dude, but just because some bad shit happened to you during E3 doesn’t mean that the escapism in video games can’t provide a healthy relief for other people. It’s also no different from books or TV in this aspect.

Honestly an incredibly narcissistic article

Knowing the difference between exclusive and inclusive OR is pretty helpful. XOR is super useful in programming and is even the basis for one of the few “perfect” encryption systems

Exclusive OR is usually just written as XOR, but if you’re dying to use a symbol: ⊕

As an engineer, I always thought they were going for that stereotype of “smart engineers mess up on the simplest social skills”, but I never really felt like Mile’s relationship mistakes were that bad at all, and they DEFINITELY didn’t call for the kinds of reactions that Keiko had.

Made the switch to KDE

I’ve been using Fedora for a couple of months now, and have been loving it. Very soon after I jumped into this community (among other Linux communities) and started laughing at all the people saying “KDE rules, GNOME drools,” and “GNOME is better, KDE is for babies.” But then I thought, “Why not give KDE a try? The...

I tried GNOME for all but three minutes until I found out that you could be scrolling along with your mouse wheel and oop, a slider suddenly appears under your cursor, steals focus, and now your mouse wheel is moving the slider before you can notice where it used to be.

What an awful default choice for UI/UX behavior.

Why is everything in consumer / American life so fucking shitty now - and companies literally just say 'oh bc profit margins' and we're now expected to swallow that and sympathize?

like I went to taco bell and they didn’t even have napkins out. they had the other stuff just no napkins, I assume because some fucking ghoul noticed people liked taking them for their cars so now we just don’t get napkins! so they can save $100 per quarter rather than provide the barest minimum quality of life features.

You’re gonna get a lot of downvotes but people really are too pacified by binge watching Survivor while scrolling through TikTok. People don’t get angry about the shit that matters, not when it’s much easier to be angrier about Star Wars not being good anymore.

I’m like you as far as being the opposite of a multitasker, except I solved things with hardware. Getting a 32:9 monitor was fantastic because I can have one 16:9 window in the center and two 8:9 windows at the sides. The center window is big enough that the side windows are barely, if at all, in my peripheral vision, so it quells my anxiety with having multiple windows open.

Nice post tho, some good info in there since I’ll be switching my daily driver to KDE soon

Other people kinda already said it, but try to find a martial art which is more focused on self-defense and that should reduce the risk of training injury.

I played American football for 4 years, then got a computer science degree and am now a professional software engineer. I definitely took some blows to the head but thankfully never any concussions. You can do it.

Have you ruled out interference? Are you near something like a WiFi router? Bluetooth uses 2.4 GHz, same as older WiFi-enabled devices.

As for comfort, I have the previous rev (WH1000MX4) and they are very comfortable, although the noise cancelling isn’t as great as my AirPods Pro

turkalino,
@turkalino@lemmy.yachts avatar

If you do find it’s interference, you can alleviate it by switching WiFi devices to the 5 GHz band if possible

How come there isn't more torrent based technology

Most of the problems in the current internet landscape is caused by the cost of centralized servers. What problems are stopping us from running the fediverse on a peer to peer torrent based network? I would assume latency, but couldn’t that be solved by larger pre caching in clients? Of course interaction and authentication...

turkalino,
@turkalino@lemmy.yachts avatar

Torrenting requires way more resources than people realize. It’s easy to look at your torrents’ download speeds and think “oh, that’s less than a normal download, like from Steam, so it must not take nearly as many resources” – it’s not all about bandwidth. The amount of encryption and hashing involved in torrenting is fairly CPU heavy (every ~4 MB piece has to be hashed and verified), especially if your CPU doesn’t have onboard encryption hardware (think mobile devices). The sheer number of connections involved even in just one torrent can also bog down a network like you wouldn’t believe – anyone who runs a home seedbox can attest.

turkalino,
@turkalino@lemmy.yachts avatar

I’d love to know if you find out anything that helps, I have a similar issue with PETG where the nozzle clogs up during 50% of filament changes. I have to completely dismantle the head to clear the blockage. It’s incredibly frustrating

This is actually related to real marksmanship technique – you don’t literally want to pull the trigger with your trigger finger, you actually want to squeeze your whole hand, which indirectly results in pulling the trigger but with your hand applying tension in all directions instead of just backwards, reducing overall movement of the weapon during your shot

Is it illegal to con people into thinking you have a perfect ability to pick football games by emailing out two lists: one picking one team, and the other picking the other team, and only sending... (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

…the next pick to the people who saw you pick the “winner”. Now half of those people see one team, the other half see you pick the other team, and whoever saw you pick the winner thinks you’ve got a 100% accuracy rate over two games. You could do that for a while and then offer to sell your pick for the Superbowl....

Do y'all have any suggestions on how to stimulate an unruly puppy?

I have a very smart 4 month old goldendoodle who loves getting into everything. She has no interest in her toys or chews. I’m at my wits end. She won’t respond to any correction or redirection.
