moreeni,

The “truly private” req really smells with “I have no threat model and don’t know what am I doing”

moreeni,

They don’t work for Kotaku anymore, Aftermath is a worker-owned website.

Who tf considers Europe a continent? Is this some American thing? I think everyone in Europe knows Europe and Asia are just parts of the world and Eurasia is the continent.

moreeni,

One of the few unpopular opinions in this thread and people are downvoting it, smh

moreeni,

What is that supposed to mean? Is it a reference to something?

moreeni,

Privacy and programming communities. I tried to stay at Windows at first, but when I was bith recommended GNU/Linux for privacy and had to use it for programming, I knew I couldn’t keep the resistance up.

Three years later and I have 0 regrets. All games I play work, except for, recently, TF2 because of a weird malloc library issue on Arch-based systems. All apps I need just work, and whenever I need something Windows-only I have a VM setup just for that. Developing and managing your system on a Unix-like system is just so much easier.

Help me choose my mobile browser

As per title, Help me choose a browser for android I have non rooted device. After all the researches I found best for me would be 1: Mull but with Some way for knowing which site have saved any data on my device (Maybe by extension or some defined page like about:config type) But as per my research I do not found any such...

moreeni,

The system (the os files to be precise) is only mutable by package manager for specific tasks like updating. It can break certain workflows if the user wants to change system files, because they can’t.

Bonuses from that are security and reproducibility. You can be sure that whatever package you have will look and behave exactly the same as on another device with the same OS. Malware won’t be able to mess around with your OS so trivially as it does on mutable distros.

moreeni,

I love all of the minimalist options here, they are so cute!

moreeni,

Excuse me? It looks OK to me, idrk what you are talking about. There is one annoying cookie pop-up that my uBlock filter didn’t catch, but that’s pretty much it

moreeni,

FF+uB FTW! But I’ve checked the website on other mobile browsers too both with adblocks and without and the experience was the same. I’m super confused what that person and the 2 orher upvoters didn’t like about the website.

moreeni,

I finished a lot of PSP games on PPSSPP with touch controls and it was absolutely decent

Signal's new version notification keeps popping up

Hey just wondering if its a problem on my end but a self update notification indicating a newer version of signal keeps popping up. I already have the latest version of the apk, 6.40.4, installed from their website, but the notification does not go away. I click it and then it states the application has been updated but after a...

moreeni,

Same on LineageOS. Force stopping the app and starting it again helps, but it will pop up again in some time. Helps if you find it annoying though.

moreeni,

It does because it’s code you have to take into account when adding new features. Basically unnecessary pain in the ass.

moreeni,

Have you even been following what images AI can generate now? Every work is original, it doesn’t just copy and paste pixels.

moreeni,

Yes, it is no longer maintained.

github.com/searx/searx

I don’t like to be the “let me google that for you” guy, but this information is searchible in under 30 seconds. There is no point in asking it as a question on a forum

moreeni,

Asking the question here allows a conversation to happen, informs others that SearXNG is a thing and provides additional context.

…and all of that is provided in the searx repo, which I linked and, which, as I have said, is easily searchable.

Note that I have never said that asking questions should not be allowed, you made that up.

Digital most of the time, physical for the special books I like

The author says that the whole even could easily be shortened but journalists have to watch everything, including useless stuff like ads, carefully not to miss anything.

Why? Because in the field, because of the hype, you have to be the first if you want to have your article read.

This resource is worker-owned and they would often write articles about issues in the game industry that corporatish editors wouldn’t usually let through. This one is an issue that most readers might not even think about.

moreeni,

Neither Matrix nor XMPP are software, those are protocols. Alsp, there is no point in specifying that XMPP is encrypted without doing the same for Matrix, since you can exchange plain text messages there too.

As for the actual question, here you go: www.privacyguides.org/…/real-time-communication/#…

The Star of David on the GrapheneOS logo made me laugh out loud. This is so cringe, dude, please get some help before it’s too late.

FOSS Firefox Dark Theme Extension?

I’ve tried using firefox’s built in dark theme but it doesn’t quite do enough. I’m looking for a dark reader that’ll invert most websites’ white background and dark text. I was wondering what privacy friendly dark readers people here would recommend, as some that I’ve seen have reports of harvesting user data and...

There are tools for viewing source code of Firefox extensions, for example this one, which is web-based:

moreeni,

It is, although it doesn’t have water spilling protection as older models do. The quality of assembling isn’t as good, some parts feel quite weak and easy to break (this hasn’t actually happened to me, though)

discuss.privacyguides.net

!privacyguides

A lot of privacy communities are interrelated and collaborate often. Usually people don’t need anything more than PrivacyGuides.

Though, other ones like The New Oil exist (note that the only forum-like community they have is Reddit). Here are their communities:

thenewoil.org/en/links/

Techlore forum is a thing as well, but I can’t talk about quality of the discussions there because I wasn’t participating in it.

discuss.techlore.tech

Personally, I would never become tired of reminding people not to jump into the rabbit hole and go full tin foil hat. Do one step at a time, engage with the community every now and then, but watch out for the moment when you become obsessed with that stuff.

moreeni,

Only privacy.com and MySudo exists atm and both of them only work for the US citizens. You can check if your bank allows creation of virtual cards (could be branded as “online shopping” card or something like that), it will give you the same functionality and that way you won’t have to trust multiple parties with your data.

Ooooh, it’s awesome! Do you mind if I link to this in the community’s sidebar?

Pkease post what you’ve discovered in the community. Any help with posting here is much, much appreciated
