My first one was a Samsung Galaxy S1 that I got in 2013 and it was a great little device that was easy to open up and repair. It had only 512MB of RAM but that was plenty for basic phone needs, web browsing and running some Android apps like AnkiDroid at the time.
I’ve got a Meizu M2 in 2015, replacing my Sony Ericsson Walkman W810 that served me well for 9 years ! The meizu was good too, until it wasn’t… one day they pushed and update that rendered it completely unusable and they took 4 month to fix. By this time I had already replaced it. Otherwise very robust despit the plastic construction, it fail off a rollercoaster once and survived without damage! I still have the phone and use it occasionally as a backup, it still works but it’s barely usable at this point because the obsolete software.
A colleague from South Korea explain to me that his daughter, 11yo, back in korea had school from 8:00 until 15:00, then had extra math class from 15:00 until 20:00 -every day- then spend 3 hours on homework. As a west-european, this sounds to me like child abuse, but ok.
I didn’t dig too deep, but it looks like the numbers they select for the calculation are not consistant from country to country. E.g: Satutory leave days/year, France officially has 30 days, but they count 36, this means they add public holidays in the count, but for Germany they give 30 days, which probably excludes public holidays (because they are different for each Bundeslands).

If you want a “setup and forget” type of experience, synology will serve you well, if you can afford it. Of you are more of a tinkerer and see yourself experimenting and upgrading in the future, then I recommend custom built. OMV is a solid OS for a novice, but any Linux distro you fancy most can do the job very well!
I’ve started my NAS journey with a very humble 1-bay synology. For the last few years I am using a custom built ARM NAS (nanopi m4v2), with 4-bays and running Armbian. All my services run on docker, I have Jellyfin, *arr, bitwarden and several other servicies running very reliably.

I bought a 1st gen Framework, making the bet they will still be around and have sell upgrades for my laptop 5+years from now when I need an upgrade. So far they are delivering on their promises and the price remains acceptable (even if high than the competition).

I find it acceptable to use a usb-c dongle for ethernet, even though I admit it’s not as good as a properly integrated port. Overall the Framework 13-inch isn’t the best if you are looking for many I/O options. I own only 4 port-modules, buy even if I had more I don’t see myself swapping them more often than twice a year.
I am super excited about case options (3D printed, or coolermaster) ! When I do need an upgrade in some years time, the old MB will definitly not go to wast !
I always found it very frustration to have some old laptop laying around, that still functions good, but there is nothing much to be done with it, or it involves a lot of tinkering and will never end up being a very elegant nor practical thing…
I feel you. I went for a pixel 7 so that I can use GrapheneOS, but this thing is a hefty-chonker, and if i am bored at work, the battery will barely make it through the day. My former CCP-branded phone was much lighter and would easily last 2 days with one charge when new.

LiDARs can absolutely detect painted lines and other painted symboles on the road. LiDAR is an active sensor technology that emits a LASER light beam and measurs the reflected echo, using the time delay between emittion and reception (time of flight) to measure distance. The painted lines will reflect the LASER with more intensity than the asphalt and the LiDAR sensor has the ability to measure that as well.
