Is there a Spotify alternative that has no ads?

I pay for Spotify for 7 years or so now and i'm so sick of all the ads. After every update there seems to be an: oops, sorry, you have ads now. Podcasts are filled with ads. I was just listening to a podcast where they shoved in 3 ads mid-sentence. How long until musicians put ads in their songs. I'm just so sick of it.

sunbytes,

A lot of podcasters have an ad-free subscription service you can get through their patreon.

It might be worth tracking these down individually.

sunbytes,

They’re not even demanding anything.

They haven’t said “tone it down and we’ll come back” they just said “goodbye”.

How is that blackmail? There’s nothing he could do now to appease them (I guess maybe step down?)

sunbytes,

There is a part of the dog training book “Total Recall” by Pippa Mattinson that refers to this.

Pie-in-a-bush is her way of explaining the Jackpot reward training method.

Very surreal to see it realised so.

sunbytes,

“the norm” part isn’t accurate, but if it could match gaming performance/compatibility I know a lot of people who would switch. Myself included.

And seeing as how 2% isn’t a very large percentage (but I think the number of gamers who are sick of windows, or have privacy concerns is quite large), I think it would be a notable increase in the userbase.

Even an increase to 2.5% market share is a 25% boost. A lot of products would be very excited indeed to boost their market share by 25%.

It might even light a tiny, tiny fire under Microsoft that they can’t just keep being shit with no consequences.

Competition (sometimes) breeds innovation.

sunbytes,

I think I remember this exact meme from not long after the movie came out (2010).

Technically retro meme?

Reduce, re-use, recycle /s

(Not a complaint)

sunbytes,

Oh damnnm.

I was on Imgur at the time probably. I don’t think that kind of thing would have got to the top.

sunbytes,

In case they say what they want them to say.

Then they can quote them.

sunbytes,

Have you tried any Warhammer fantasy stuff (it’s not the sci-fi “40k” setting).

Vermintide is supposed to be really good!

It’s not specifically action but Total War Warhammer games are amazing.

I’ve got a lot of hours in them and I’m not usually one for this kind of strategy game.

There’s two types of gameplay in it.

First is a Civilisation-style empire management tool and army-builder.

Second is the live action battle gameplay, where you’re mashing thousands of troops and monsters against one another. That’s the half of the game that’s fast-paced and bloody as hell.

sunbytes, (edited )

PR issues won’t affect the gameplay.

It’s worth a shot, I reckon.

Because if you like it, you’ll get more for your money than any other game.

But yeah if you’re unsure on game 3, game 2 is still exceptional.

sunbytes,

Some BBs could probably smash enough of the lights in it from a distance?

Or maybe paintballs to make it green

sunbytes,

Somewhere between [insert most beautiful game ever here] and Rise of Kong would be ideal lol.

sunbytes,

Yeah.

Do you mean “programmers” by developers?

Or do you mean “the people who are involved in the development of the app”?

Because the money & marketing people are the ones who want trackers.

But they are usually such a high prio for the app that it’s put them in or get fired.

sunbytes,

For some. For others, it’s the other.

For some, both.

sunbytes,

One time the company big boss did a speech telling us how we could all learn a thing or two from his protégé, and clapped him on the shoulder.

If big boss had spent more time in the office, he’d have known that Mr Protégé spent most of his working hours playing ping-pong with Big Boss’s trophy-wife.

sunbytes,

There’s plugins that will do it for you (with the max privacy settings so you don’t have to worry about getting tricked by phrasing).

I even have one on my mobile browser.

sunbytes,

Where’s the video? I can’t see one in the article

sunbytes,

I guess that’s not working for me. I tried in a couple of browsers but no luck. Do you have the video URL?

sunbytes,

Thanks!

sunbytes,

Ahhh I bet it’s my duckduckgo filter app.

sunbytes,

How many of those jobs are able to support a whole human (rent etc)?

And how many of those jobs are being taken by people who will be doing it at the same time as another job.

Because that sounds like a bad job if so.

sunbytes,

I always forget VS Code is a different thing to VS.

Don’t scare me like that.

sunbytes,

Oh wow I had no idea haha

sunbytes,

I’m mainly just impressed that there’s an instance called startrek.website…

sunbytes,

Isn’t it just supposed to be a secure/private version of WhatsApp?

What are they doing that is bad?

sunbytes,

Ok so as soon as I saw that the book was called Hail Mary, I was said to myself “OK so there will be a main character called Grace or something”

My buddy (fairly religious guy) read the whole book without noticing that same pun. He’s usually the one who points this kind of joke out to oblivious me.

It’s such a “I started with this joke and worked backwards” kind of great name lol.

sunbytes,

The terms listed probably aren’t used as defined in whatever material they’re being used in (which is pretty normal).

In the context of most modern usage, I’d say the difference is conditional on the consent of the subject (non-manufactured consent).

Exploitation also (I believe) implies a finite resource. Or at least, it’s going to run out if it’s being monetised VS exploited. For example, overfishing the oceans.

Idea: fediverse of ecommerce. Time to dethrone amazon and ebay. What do you think?

Buying from an alternative ecommerce site usually sucks: you have to register for every website, enter your address, payment information and other information, they may leak data or store it improperly, you may not know the reputation of the website or business, you can’t easily compare products with other vendors and more....

sunbytes,

E-commerce isn’t as much of a monopoly as “reddit-style social media”.

Technically anyone has the ability to open an eshop and sell whatever they want (provided they follow the appropriate sales/tax laws etc).

It’s just that people don’t like to buy from no-name shops online, as reputations give a level of accountability.

I imagine a lot of people got their credit card details stolen when the first eshops appeared.

sunbytes,

“it’s my party and I’ll sing if I want to”

sunbytes,

Honestly this is every car chase in every high profile movie.

They somehow stay very clean and shiny the whole time.

sunbytes,

I’m not doing maths to keep it at 18 each year.

I do 1900 lol

sunbytes,

I didn’t say I was going to do maths for you either ;)

sunbytes,

“heavy metal poisoning”

“Haemorrhagic issue” (i.e. bled to death on the kerb)

sunbytes,

Oh that ok. It’s not green on this side.

sunbytes,

There’s a lite version that’s only for the ads.

It’s cheaper than the full 19.99.

While that might still be too much, I just wanted to point out that if you don’t want ads, it doesn’t cost the full 20quid.

sunbytes,

Solution: cover your hands with jelly and make a big scene of climbing over the cars to use the sidewalk, leaving jelly handprints everywhere.

If confronted about the jelly prints, just say you were eating a really big donut.

sunbytes,

Oof. That was lucky. I almost posted in it my work new channel…

Thanks for that.

sunbytes,

“We have justify-content and align-items at home”

sunbytes,

I know a guy who started a company to do exactly this (in Europe only for now).

So the battery swap idea is out there, and being acted upon.

Has anyone notice that sometimes plugins like ublock origin is not working on youtube?

I did hear the news about youtube getting rid of adblocks. The first video that I click has an ad and then I refresh again the ads still appear. I turn off and on ublock origin just to make sure it’s working and it blocks the youtube ads. It happened to my dissable youtube shorts plugins as well. Btw I am using firefox.

sunbytes,

I’ve noticed it happening in the past.

I suspect there’s a bit of an arms race between uBlock origin and large and networks like Google/YouTube.

So there will always be a short response time between anti-adblock changes made by websites, and the adblockers releasing a way to get around them.

Hopefully any change is temporary.

sunbytes,

I’m mostly worried about the tracking and deta selling.

Is the tracking turned off with the pro subscription?

sunbytes,

Ok neat. Well then I’m pretty tempted…

sunbytes,

Oh dang that’s exactly what just happened to me.

sunbytes,

The Actor sexually harassed a LOT of fans.

And so they canned him after it went public.

Honestly I’m not remembering anything in particular Alex did in the later seasons so probably it’s not a massive problem.
