Are you saying “some republican voters are good people” or “some republican politicians are good people”?
For the first one, that’s probably true but irrelevant. I think most republican voters are trying to do good with their vote, but they’ve got so caught up in Republican fascism that they honestly think voting red is good.
For the second one, I highly doubt it. They don’t have the cult behavior excuse, so at best, they’re completely selfish, enough to put their job security over the lives of others.
Makes me wonder why they’re actually doing it. How much revenue do they think they’ll gain from blocking ad blockers? Are they doing this for that revenue, or are they trying to tell advertisers that Google ads are a safer investment?
As a programmer, I will very mildly defend VW here. Not at all defending the payment structure (that’s shit and has no excuse other than rent seeking), but the person who had to tell the police they needed to pay likely didn’t have an override button. Something like this just isn’t an edge case that you often think of in development, so not having the option of getting that data out for free is reasonable if this is the first incident.
Not true, there’s a lot of differences between a car and a ute/suv. The high, square bonnet of a ute both makes it harder to see pedestrians and makes it much worse when they do hit. Cars are designed to hit people on the lower legs and toss them onto the bonnet, while utes hit people on the upper body and knock them over so they end up underneath a moving vehicle.
Cars aren’t great, but they’re so much better than utes and suvs.
I’ve been thinking about something and want to check an assumption I have. I only hear directly from other people in the USA, and interract with the global community through memes. How are the gun regulations/laws different from yours in terms of strictness, and do you wish there was more or less where you live?...
Gun laws are fairly strict here. To own a gun at all, you need to get a firearms license ( ![…govt.nz/…/you-apply-firearms-licence](if you’re curious) ). You can get one once you’re 16, and it includes a test of gun safety knowledge and someone coming to check your gun storage. It also only lets you get basic guns: bolt action rifles and shotguns, no handguns or semi auto. To own other guns, you need an endorsement, which has a vetting process similar to what cops go through.
We are sufficiently deadly that in order for something to pose a credible threat to us, we have to make it up and give it powers that don’t exist in reality. And even then, most of the time, we still win.
This is false. We already pose a very real, credible threat to us.
Lemmy is a community hosted system, and a lot of the user base came here after leaving other platforms (mostly reddit) because of the owners making it worse and worse trying to copy other platforms like tiktok.
And you’re wondering why everyone here has problems with capitalism.
That’s not even mentioning the other huge problems with capitalism.
I fail to see how that equates to “communism good” though.
The problem is that very few people make the decisions that impact everyone on the platform, which ends up meaning “capitalism bad”. Fixing that problem with a system that’s basically owned by users is sort of like making the system communist.
surely most people on here live and benefit from capitalist societies.
Sure, they live in capitalist societies, but do they honestly benefit from it being capitalist more than they would from it being communist or socialist? Are they really better off in a system that inherently increases inequality rather than decreasing it?
Still domes. One reason for domes is that it helps with holding pressure, which wouldn’t be a problem on an ideal planet. The other reason is that domes have low surface area, which means there’s less weight to bring to the planet from earth.
Metatron has done a video on this ( youtu.be/-Mx6TtkgugU?si=7SS7s9JpMupmmpKl ). I don’t think he’s religious, but he knows his stuff when it comes to classical history. I haven’t watched this video in a while, but I think it’s more about the demons in the Bible that are close to modern pop culture demons (horns, big bat wings, etc), rather than the sorts of demons that actually possess people.
If you’re asking what Christians think demonic possession is like today, it’s far more subtle than it is in the Bible. The goal of any demon is to lead people away from God, so openly showing themselves to a secular culture that believes they’re fake is unhelpful. All of the stories I’ve heard of demonic activity have been where three demons imitate actual medical conditions like asthma, migranes, or epilepsy. The way to tell between purely medical conditions and demonic activity is with prayer and God helping you discern what it is. The only tell apart from this would be doctors doing everything they can and the problem only getting worse.
If you want to know more about demons, I recommend the Screwtape letters by C.S. Lewis.
Can someone please tell me why so many reports are still done manually? Even developing a report in excel would take only a day if you know what you’re doing, and much less if you’re using software made for reporting.
One of the two greatest sources of programming knowledge. Every programmer has learnt most of what they know from stackoverflow questions and tutorials from Indian guys on YouTube.
Definitely fallen order for me, not quite as much survivor. There was something terrifying about “oh shit Vader is here? And he just casually tossed Cere? And now we’re fighting him? Wait, where’s his health bar?” And then you just get crushed.
This would save young Americans from going into crippling debt, but it would also make a university degree completely unaffordable for most. However, in the age of the Internet, that doesn’t mean they couldn’t get an education....
A. That would only be true in a culture where employers don’t think you need a degree for basic jobs. From what I’ve seen, the US isn’t like that.
B. Even if people are practically able to turn down uni, all the universities will most likely agree to keep prices high, similar to what landlords do. If all of them keep their prices high, then all of them get more money.
