Michal,

I’d like to see a game of cat and mouse until Apple fucks up and breaks their own imessage app

Michal,

It’s incorrect. I would comparing to fuel consumption in a car based on how many times you turned. If you make more turns on your way, it would seem your car is more efficient, when in reality there’s very little relation between turns and fuel usage, just like there is little relation between number of blocks mined and transactions.

Michal,

False. Mining is what uses electricity (and water) in bitcoin, not transactions. Adding more transactions does not add to the cost. Calculating consumption per transaction is misleading as the two are not related.

What does add to the cost is complexity, and complexity is calculated based on number of miners in the network in order to achieve the sweet spot of 1 block every 10 mins (if i remember correctly). If there’s a lot of competition, each miner will have to use more electricity to win.

Michal,

But does it account for manufacturing of the plastic cards, delivering it to the user, and the added expense of the extra weight when carrying it around? /s

Michal,

Nokia n95 is a smartphone, not a dumb phone. It has Symbian OS, you can install apps, copy/paste, browse internet. I used to have the 8gb one, it has more capabilities than the first iPhone.

Michal,

Nokia N75 us a smartphone with Symbian OS.

Michal,

Probably Siemens C65 as my first smartphone was Siemens SXG75.

But later I got a Sony Ericsson K800 which is a feature phone, then I got a more mainstream smartphone Nokia N95 8Gb.

Michal,

Blackberry pearl is a smartphone, at least according to Wikipedia. I’ve never used it, but I’d say all blackberries were smartphones.

Michal,

N93 definitely a smartphone en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_N93?wprov=sfla1

Michal,

Smartphones used to have a different purpose than they do now. Just because it doesn’t have a querty keyboard, doesn’t mean it’s not a smartphone. Just look at the first iPhone, it’s just as useless, it didn’t even have the ability to install apps (imo it’s a must for smartphones) , yet hardly anyone will dispute whether it was a smartphone.

Michal, (edited )

I never used N75, but i had n95, and they’re both running Symbian OS so I assume they were similar at least in software. I had full website browsing (made faster thanks to opera mini), email, file manager. I also had third party apps like Skype, Google maps (doesn’t matter whether you have gps), Gmail. If that’s not a smartphone then I don’t know what is.

Even the wiki you linked to clearly defines it as a smartphone. Why would you argue with that?

Michal,

That may be your opinion, but if you follow my Wikipedia link, it says it’s a smartphone, so I’m not even going to argue. Wikipedia has a widely accepted definition of a smartphone.

Apple announces that RCS support is coming to iPhone next year (9to5mac.com)

In a surprising move, Apple has announced today that it will adopt the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging standard. The feature will launch via a software update “later next year” and bring a wide range of iMessage-style features to messaging between iPhone and Android users....

Michal,

And they will act like they invented it

Michal,

It would be very dangerous, yes. I would not count it as “attempted murder” dangerous as yes, there are ways to restart the engines mid flight by windmilling. Depending on altitude the pilots will have time to restart the engines, or glide into an emergency landing.

Michal,

He hasn’t been sentenced yet, only charged.

Michal,

On the other hand the vaccine was free. What’s their target market, the antivaxers?

Michal,

He looks tired of weight lifting

Michal,

Don’t confuse store credit with a refund. You’re not getting your cash back. You can only spend it on Amazon which is a dick move, not the right move.

Michal,

Can you still access them with VPN?

Michal,

Not a refund, a gift credit.

Michal,

What do you mean almost as good? You can spend your refund money anywhere. Gift card is only accepted by the store issuing it.

If you’re only shopping with Amazon then for you it may be, but it’s not true for everyone.

Michal,

If you couldn’t afford monthly payments it’s probably due to current interest rates rather than prices.

Michal,

Just because they send out the password does not mean it’s not hashed. They could send the email before hashing.

Michal,

I was hoping the silver lining of climate change would be hotter weather here in Ireland. Shit.

Michal,

Only? That’s 29x more. Needs context.

Michal,

I meant to say 7$ doesn’t mean much. It’s like saying company share price went up by 7$, that’s why stock market changes are expressed in % not in $.

Michal,

I only have 1 (youtube) but on occasion i will subscribe to a service if there’s a tv show i want to watch.

Currently watching pottery throw down on channel 4 but i can’t purchase a subscription without a British card, so I’m watching with ads…

Michal,

But the one that hasn’t paid does not have the same amount of external insulation. See the thickness of “paint”, it’s not just paint, it’s insulation layer commonly used to improve thermal efficiency of a building.

Still, he’ll benefit from heat raising from the apartment below, it’s those above him that are worse off because the heat will escape through his walls.

Michal,

How us bicycle more dangerous than cars?

Sure cars have all the safety features for people on the inside, but on a bike you’re exposed to much slower speeds and better field of view. Bike accidents have much smaller fatality rate than car accidents.

Unless of course you mean cycling among cars is less safe, but that argument just confirms that cars are unsafe, not bikes. Bikes are not dangerous. Cars are.

Michal,

Nay, with long enough cable you’ll get consistently good performance. With wifi it’s a hit and miss due to interference and walls.

Michal,

So they’re not going to support invalids then?

Michal,

Id say cars are even greater polluter per km per passenger.

Michal,

Thanks, I stand corrected, however it does not apply for short haul flights (154g)

If travelling domestically, driving – even if it’s alone – is usually better than flying;

However on the other hand, most popular European airline boasts much lower numbers. I wonder how they achieved this figure.

Ryanair already has the lowest CO2 emissions per passenger/km of any major airline in Europe (66g) and by switching to Ryanair, passengers can now further reduce their CO2 emissions.

Michal,

What if while you sleep over it your laptop gets stolen or damaged? I’d rather push every small change than sit on it.

Michal,

On one occasion i had to take over a task from a colleague while he was on his day off. He did not push his changes. I am sure he had backups but when i asked him to push his changes he had to drive home to do it.

I’d rather company IP stays on its git server.

Michal,

Why not? Do you push directly to master?

Michal,

Sqlite is nice and fast. I think the only disadvantage is you can’t connect to it from multiple processes or machines, so scalability goes out the window.

Michal,

It will help cool the router, so yes, it will probably work 👍

Michal,

The electric infrastructure is the whole grid. I’d argue apartment complex are better prepared for the increased power use than a gas station and is more convenient a location than gas station.

What are you going to do while waiting for your car to charge? At least at home you can go… home. Shopping centres are a close second. You can do your shopping while you’re charging. Parking spaces and grid are already there.

Michal,

Does anyone read ebooks from pdf? I tried loading this book into my Kindle Paperwhite, but the text is just too small.

Michal,

That’s awesome, thank you!

Michal,

So, one could theoretically upgrade the case alone and keep the same earbuds?
