Japan’s population is aging, which is true of all developed countries. Pretty much every other developed country solves this with immigration, something Japan has avoided.
If you overhaul society so that it doesn’t end up being just the uberwealthy earning even more profits while even less entry level jobs are available to most of the population.
For the immigrants it has some pretty obvious advantages.
For Japanese society you’re taking out a human who draws wages from a corporation and then spends those wages all over the place with a robot who doesn’t. It’s just another way of concentrating wealth inequality.
There’s no phonetic reason, the double oo and single o make the exact same sound in most dialects and there’s no reason the s should sound like a z in lose.
China are kinda dicks. They abuse the countries around them, genocide minorities, and violently oppress dissent.
Like, I’m not gonna pretend that most other superpowers either did that in the past or are currently doing it now, but China is just a little bit extra.
Tbf if Linux is already installed and running on the computer you really don’t need to use the CLI at all now. And if Windows isn’t installed on the computer your average user couldn’t figure out either. This is more a matter of Windows usually coming pre-installed and configured.
Probably init before that then. I don’t think the kernel cares unless explicitly told to care, I’ve seen some embedded Linux with interesting permissions.
Lemmy really feels like early Reddit right now. I mean that in a good way. And not to flex but I’m saying that as someone with a 16 year old Reddit account haha.
This is why I don’t understand why anyone tech savvy isn’t using Firefox. There’s literally no cost. From a user standpoint they’re basically the same thing. The one that isn’t made by an evil monopoly is just the obvious choice.
Also you can’t really use Apple TV properly without an Apple device. Same with iCloud. Actually really any service they make only works properly with their full stack.
That was me, I live in the tropics near the mountains where you can go from 42⁰ at crazy humidity near sea level to 15⁰ up around 2000m in about an hour’s drive. I lived near sea level and when we were kids we’d meet halfway with friends who lived in the mountains. They’d be running around in just swimsuits and I’d be sitting on the side wearing 3 layers.
In a surprising move, Apple has announced today that it will adopt the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging standard. The feature will launch via a software update “later next year” and bring a wide range of iMessage-style features to messaging between iPhone and Android users....
AFAIK Apple has said they are only going to use official RCS spec with no extensions and will work on adding encryption to the spec. Google has announced that they will work with Apple and the GSMA to implement official RCS encryption.
Heya folks, some people online told me I was doing partitions wrong, but I’ve been doing it this way for years. Since I’ve been doing it for years, I could be doing it in an outdated way, so I thought I should ask....
This is how I feel about a lot of shows in this vein, The Office, Parks and Rec, Sienfeld etc. They have really funny and quotable/refrenceable bits but actually watching whole episodes or seasons can get oddly depressing.
The problem is libertarian groups themselves don’t stand up against anarchists joining them. I remember Gary Johnson getting booed at an official libertarian party gathering for saying he believes in driver’s licences.
Also we already know how libertarianism ends, with robber barons controlling everything and people living in company towns. It’s a terrible political ideal.
Oh most anarchists I know are nice people, they just completely fail to understand that not everyone else is. They don’t want to oppress, steal, rape, or murder, and so systems to prevent those things aren’t necessary.
I was homeschooled and it was fine, I did great on standardized tests, had friends, am not a fundamentalist nutjob, etc… I’d like to say to these people please stay, I know it’s hard for them but what they’re doing is desperately needed. Lots of those people are decent people who live in an echo chamber of conservative insanity, they need patient loving people like you to show up and let them see there’s more to life than their bubble.
I think you’re vastly overestimating how often those things happen in homeschool. Most of them are awesome people that just happen to be stuck in a terrible media bubble.
And if there were no homeschool the crazy fundie portion of homeschoolers would just send their kids to a crazy fundie private school or move to a small town where everyone in the public school were all crazy fundies also.
Perfect is the enemy of good. I’d rather have a 95% renewable grid than not even try. We can at the very least minimize fossil fuel use. It’s kinda silly to be doubling down on it in this day and age.
Dear Lemmy, **why** Star Trek??
Every single large server in this federation has at least one Star Trek community. There is even an entire server dedicated to Star Trek....

No cinnamon, or overly spicy, chocolate drinks (did I just rule out everything?) :/
Speakers of non-English languages, what common mistakes do native speakers make that drive you crazy?
For example, English speakers commonly mix up your/you’re or there/their/they’re. I’m curious about similar mistakes in other languages.
