Not counting games that were unfun because of bugs, what’s the most unfun video game that you’ve played and what made it unfun?

Most of the video games I’ve played were pretty good. The only one I can think of that I didn’t like was MySims Kingdom for the Nintendo DS. Dropped that pretty quickly. It was a long while ago, but I’ll guess it was because there were too many fetch quests and annoying controls.

newtraditionalists,

This is so true. I bought the anniversary collection years ago. When I went to play SF1 I was flabbergasted. It’s legitimately terrible. Even by standards back then. Though, as someone who is a bit obsessed currently, I am so glad they kept up with it.

Favorite uses for cucumbers (beehaw.org)

Just inherited a bunch of cucumbers from a friend’s garden. I love them just on their own with some salt, and have made many a salad using them. I’m curious what kinds of fun things you all may use them for. Even if you feel like it’s basic please share as I will be eating cucumbers for the next several days straight lol....

newtraditionalists,

Never encountered finadene, thanks so much for sharing! Looking forward to trying :)

newtraditionalists,

Most of what I have read has said that our need for protein is incredibly overstated, and most Americans eat way too much. From what I understand, it’s fiber that we need to eat more. I guess it goes without saying, but the takeaway is that nutrition is very complex and needs can vary greatly from person to person.

newtraditionalists,

Eternal Champions. Such a cool concept, a great cast of characters, and great graphics for the time. Spent so many hours playing it with my brothers growing up. Xavier was the fucking best.

newtraditionalists, (edited )

Stay defederated. On top of all the great points already made, I don’t understand people demanding instances behave a certain way. If you don’t like the way this instance is handled go find another one.

newtraditionalists,

Am I the only one who thinks it’s rude to just ask someone for a hit off a joint like that? Been to lots of festivals and shows, and been offered plenty of things, but never once thought to go ask someone for a piece of whatever they are enjoying. Seems pretty presumptuous to me? Maybe it’s more common in other parts of the world though.

newtraditionalists,

My health. I am so unbelievably fortunate to have a baseline of good health. Both physical and mental.

newtraditionalists,

Going camping for a friend’s bday Thursday through Saturday in Malibu Creek State Park! Verrrrry excited as I’ve been wanting to go camping so bad, it’s been a few years since I’ve gone and it’s such a crucial reset for me. I think it has to do with growing up and camping a lot. Lots of memories to rekindle, lots of moments for reflection and processing. Anyways, hope you all have a great weekend!

newtraditionalists,

I enjoyed squabblr at first but the dev has already made terrible choices so I’m not into it. The community is good though, so that’s a bummer. Raddle is insane. They are leftist fascists. I’m super left, but a bunch of teenagers pining for anarchy is absurd. Its so clear that most of them don’t know what they are talking about in the slightest. I noped out of there quickly.

At which level within the hierarchy of the US office do individuals aspiring to be part of it tend to be perceived as driven by a strong desire for power?

A lot of people would describe people who want to be the president as people who shouldn’t be president, but I’ve never heard someone describe someone who would describe someone who wants to be mayor as that. When does the office reach a level of influence that it begins to attract individuals driven by a craving for power?

newtraditionalists,

I’m honestly shocked you’ve never heard a candidate for mayor called power hungry. If you spend more time in political spaces you will definitely hear it. I’ve heard people sling the claim of power hungry at people going for schoolboard, many times. I think the perception at a national level translates to when people engage at the local level, when and if they ever do. So, like, immediately I guess?

What the U.S. could learn from Japan about making healthy living easier (www.npr.org)

The emphasis on fresh high-quality food made me wonder if that sort of food is more satisfying (and filling) than what the author sees in American food. Does eating poor quality food leave you hungry? (Also, consider people living in “grocery deserts” who subsist on large amounts of fast food. Their obesity rates are very...

newtraditionalists,

I liked the article a lot and it made many great points. Especially about school lunch and public transportation allowing for a more active, therefore healthy, society. However, when I visited I noticed vegetables are not incredibly common, and those you find are not diverse. Dishes are rice heavy, and the vegetables are mostly varieties of cucumbers and seaweed. A friend of mine, who lived in Tokyo for a few years, confirmed my observation and mentioned it’s thought to be a cause of persistent dental issues in Japan. Don’t have a source or anything for that, but thought it might be interesting to mention. I think it greatly depends on where you live. In California, I have access to a huge variety of vegetables and many farmer’s markets throughout the week I can attend. I imagine that i am an outlier though, and many areas have access to very few vegetable varieties. Food deserts are a very real thing and a very real problem. I’m mostly just musing, but I think I’m mentioning this because there is a trend in spaces like this to idolize Japan, and reality is much more nuanced than “Japan is perfect.”

newtraditionalists,

Yes, maize is subsidized, and yes, the majority is turned into corn syrup. Culturally, there has been a shift away from corn syrup so lots of products popping up using sugar instead (cuz, ya know, that’s so much better). But the products with corn syrup are right next to them, and people usually can’t afford the newer “less processed” alternatives.

newtraditionalists,

Nice read and very happy for Galante! He is clearly a fan of gaming who made something awesome for fans of gaming. It’s not exactly a game I got addicted to (played maybe 10 or 15 hours total?) but it truly is such a refreshing treat. If you haven’t tried it, give it a go. It’s super nostalgic and super easy to pick up immediately. Mostly, I’m excited to see what other things Galante and his team can do! But as long as they are happy continuing to make Vampire Survivors as good as they can, I’m happy for them.

newtraditionalists,

I say no to bots. I see the utility in some of them, but beehaw is only one instance, and I’d love to keep it an instance that I know is full of actual people. Makes me want to engage in conversation much more. Besides, if you want a bot filled experience you can engage in one of the instances that allow bots. If bots are allowed, I want them to be very clearly labeled. I want to know in one glance if I’m speaking to a bot.

newtraditionalists,

Literally made some last night. Made some flat bread (flour, baking powder, yogurt, olive oil), browned the halloumi, smeared some store bought mango chutney and a dollop of yogurt on the bread, topped with the halloumi and fresh fresno chilis. So delicious. A riff off a Jamie Oliver recipe. Not the healthiest (apparently fiber is the enemy) but very filling and feels quite special for a quick easy meal!

newtraditionalists,

Read the article folks. This is very different from covid, and they had a similar outbreak in 2019. Sounds like it’s something to do with their food sanitation practices?

newtraditionalists,

HA! Your edit just floored me, I didn’t even catch that. Lowest common denominator and all that jazz lol.

What are your favorite video games that force you to pull out the pen and paper?

Ever since the language puzzle in Tunic that got me to fill up 6 pocket sized pages of notes over multiple days while trying to puzzle it out as I tried to and, eventually, succeeded at translating the in-game “paper” manual, I’ve had a craving for games that force you to pull out a notebook and take notes/puzzle things...

newtraditionalists,

Myst. Surprised this wasn’t mentioned yet.

newtraditionalists,

Straight up revenge porn. Tells you all you need to know about the quality of human we are dealing with here.

newtraditionalists,

This is a fun read, thanks for sharing. My partner and I are not big on kitchen gadgets. We don’t own a microwave or instantpot or anything else like that. We do, however, have a crockpot. But it’s true, I have friends who are not cooks at all that own the instantpot. And it sits dutifully on their counter never being used. I think the point is if you enjoy cooking you will cook. And if you don’t enjoy it, no gadget will change that, no matter how great it works.

newtraditionalists,

Going to see Tori Amos this weekend so I will be giddy all week. Saw her once before 18 years ago, so it’s been a long time coming. Can’t wait!!

newtraditionalists,

Nice read, thanks for sharing! The NES will always be the epicenter of my lifelong love for gaming. I will always remember receiving Megaman 2 for my bday. We had other games, but as the youngest of three boys, it was the first game that was truly mine. And I will never forget the weird ass cover art it had lol.

newtraditionalists,

When people ask for source, it’s usually in response to a fringe claim that is not well documented. This is not that. It has been well documented and discussed in the last 5 to 10 years and there are plenty of sources available with a little bit of searching. I have a hard time believing you are asking in good faith.

newtraditionalists,

As a massive Destiny fan, I was around for all of that as it happened. So so so glad to hear this is how it turned out. These kind of people need to be made examples of, and I hope he has a miserable time trying to recover.

newtraditionalists,

Gonna make a tomato and tarragon salad tonight. Looking to try some of Jamie Oliver’s five ingredient recipes too, not sure which though.

newtraditionalists,

Street Fighter 6 has become a bit of an obsession.

newtraditionalists,

You’re much better than me lol. Currently stuck in silver 5 with my main, lily. I’ll get it eventually. I hope. Good luck breaking into diamond!

newtraditionalists,

Been using the fediverse since the 1st of June, don’t miss reddit at all. As a matter of fact, it’s made me realize just how plagued reddit had become with bots and ads and just terrible communities of hate and perversion. I was on reddit for like 13 or 14 years and since it was a slow process I didn’t realize how awful a lot of the site had become. So glad to have left.

newtraditionalists,

Looks delicious! Care to share a quick recipe? No need for a ton of detail, just never had a goan curry before and would love to try.

newtraditionalists,

Conker's Bad Fur Day is available too for those that want to relive that amazingness!

newtraditionalists,

So much Street Fighter 6. I've played fighting games my whole life, but I'm enjoying taking this one a little more seriously. I still suck in online but am slowly improving! Also playing Back 4 Blood with some friends, which is always fun!

newtraditionalists,

Patience is the least we can offer for all you 4 have done to provide such a great space to be online. Welcome fellow newbies!

newtraditionalists,

This is what I'm after, something that seems so obvious but for whatever reason I had a blind spot to. Looking forward to playing with this basic idea. Thanks!

newtraditionalists,

Wow. This is so macabre. Crazy to be following this story. Thanks for sharing these details.

newtraditionalists,

Agreed! And I wouldn’t mind purchasing one :)
