A mirror array is not a backup. So therefor I would use at least one of those extra drives for a weekly backup of your data. You want some sort of not real-time backup in case you get cryptoed for example

netburnr,
@netburnr@lemmy.world avatar

If you’ve got cloud backup you’re good, keep the drives in a drawer as spares or have another use?

I’ve always wanted car to car commutation not through horns but radios or loudspeakers.

East to setup Voice driven home automation systems.

Sure we have homeseer and home automation, both good tools, and sure we have plug-ins with Alexa, but none of these tools sell their own Alexa like device so I can be cloud free.

Pretty neat. Can’t afford 400 dollars per room though.

Cool new maps, will have to check that out tonight.

DeepSouth (www.westernsydney.edu.au)

A supercomputer capable of mimicking the human brain is set to be activated in 2024. The DeepSouth system, developed by researchers at the International Centre for Neuromorphic Systems, uses spiking neural networks to efficiently emulate large networks of neurons, rivaling the rate of operations in the human brain. So it’s going to be uneducated and racist?

Maybe it can replace Fled Cruz.

what is a skill you wish you had, and why?

Ok, I might as well go first: I wish I could draw. Not at the level where I could make photorealistic portraits, but I’ve always been envious of those who are able to scetch something together in a few minutes that perfectly captures what they want to convey. Sometimes words aren’t enough to express what I want to say, and...

Don’t feel bad. Everyone gets distracted with a gun pointed at them.

netburnr,

Have you tried reading in bed? It’s not just a few minutes but it definitely helps me make the eyes tired and heavy which makes me know when I can close the book and fall asleep in a matter of minutes.

netburnr,
@netburnr@lemmy.world avatar

I have to disagree on one count, the rest I agree with. The entire show sucked, every season. Had some good visual effects, but the story was garbage, the new klingons were absolutely a joke, and the individual episode plots were all just too soap opera and not enough Star Trek.

netburnr,
@netburnr@lemmy.world avatar

I would love to see them do the same style of show again, but with writers who cared about the Star Trek universe.

I need to record over some Hi8 tapes; 5 tapes, ~2½ hours each. I can record audio and video directly. What should I put on there? (kbin.social)

I'm getting rid of an old Hi8 camcorder and figured I'd throw in the tapes with it, but I want to wipe the contents of the tapes before I do. I don't have a huge magnet or anything I can use to quickly erase the tapes, so the only option is to record over them using the camcorder. Instead of being boring and just muting it and...

netburnr,
@netburnr@lemmy.world avatar

Why not just film the wall until your tape runs out and then swap the tape to the next.

After about 2 days you won’t need a chart to know the time offset does to someone’s waking hours. Unless of course you have a learning disability.

What are some productive things to do when you wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep for a few hours?

I’m looking for suggestions that zombie-me could follow through with. The problem is I can barely bring myself to get out of bed, let alone do a useful task. It just wastes typically 2–5 hours of my life as I wait for tiredness to finally (re)take hold.

netburnr,
@netburnr@lemmy.world avatar

Yup, it tires the eyes, great for getting back to sleep

That’s why I like playing counterstrike source. The only people left at 35+

No more shit talking, just random condos between rounds on finances and stupid work things. It’s kinda nice.

Recurring issues with comments

Howdy y’all! I’m still enjoying Connect and recommending it to everyone, but I’ve been having more and more issues displaying comments, either when opening a post that clearly says “X comments” but ends up being empty, or when clicking on “View more (X)” on my profile only for it to disappear. Any idea why? I...

LG Env, I actually miss it.

Why is everything in consumer / American life so fucking shitty now - and companies literally just say 'oh bc profit margins' and we're now expected to swallow that and sympathize?

like I went to taco bell and they didn’t even have napkins out. they had the other stuff just no napkins, I assume because some fucking ghoul noticed people liked taking them for their cars so now we just don’t get napkins! so they can save $100 per quarter rather than provide the barest minimum quality of life features.

netburnr,
@netburnr@lemmy.world avatar

Same with those dollar stores. They come into poor areas and drive out the small local grocers, then you get a worse product and it’s your only choice.

Like before you even go to the bathroom. That would be super weird feeling.

You should go when you see the rolls being put in the oven, just enough time to smoke and be back before the seating happens. Don’t forget the visine before you smoke, works better that way.

I just used copilot for the first time. It made me a ton of call to action text and website page text for various service pages inwas creating for a home builder. It was surprisingly useful, of course I modified the output a bit but overall saved me a ton of time.

Just tested, went to the gallery app as expected.

Base os install ad a template in your hypervisor. Ansible playbook with a task to spin up the VM, another task to setup network and required packages. Then other playbooks for the software/services setup.

They aren’t the only game, there is also QNAP, I’ve had several of them.

Never needed aupport, I just spin them up, create the disk groups and shares, setup the offsite backup and they do their thing.

Dude you just tickled a part of my brain I haven’t thought about Ina long time. These books filled a ton of empty time at a call center job back in the day.
