I’m reworking my computer setup, and I’m currently debating with myself over whether I want to pick up a second monitor, or sell my current one and replace it with an ultrawide. I figured I’d seek out anecdotes to see which setup people tend to prefer....
Well, I’m not Beeple, but I’ll try to answer the question anyway.
Honestly I’ve done it all — 4 monitors in a 2x2 grid, four side by side, two side by side, two side by side and one vertical. Honestly, what I took away from the experience is that monitor space is like the size of a bowl for goldfish. You’ll pretty much always stretch out and figure out how to use screen real estate
When I simplified things down, I found I was happiest with one UWD, and a small second monitor off to the right. It’s well suited for graphic design work, cus I can keep a document or Slack open on a small monitor and have a full UWD to handle all my toolbars and stuff.
The death penalty is not widely supported among Jewish communities — doubly so for the reform population in my old neighborhood in Pittsburgh. I agree with you that this feels right, but I can’t help but feel like this is justice delivered for people other than the affected. I miss Squirrel Hill every day, and I am not sure that the wound that this asshole created will ever heal. I think about the lost every day.
I’ve already gotten an update to the app since I installed it this morning. A promising development pace. I paid for the year license cus you gotta spread the love on the Fedi.
Yeah once I tweaked list view to use large fonts, I was much happier. I don’t really have any major issues with it yet, except that I can’t assign a shortcut to go to the comments from a gesture. It’s just a habit from a previous Reddit app that’s tough to break.
things are in fact going extremely badly but we’ll see if they pick up starting tomorrow night for reasons that will preclude me being here for about a week (seeing my SO)
Hang in there chief. The insurance lapse will be merely a blip in the future, so, try to stay focused on number one. Breathe, and make sure you take time to care for your damn self. Nobody can benefit from your awesomeness if you worry yourself to death.
I have nothing to report other than that I have the day off from work today, I am high, and having a great day. Hope things clear up for everyone soon, I’m keeping yall in my thoughts.
Just dropping in to mention that Sync for Lemmy is available for Android. It’s pretty good. Early (you can’t submit stuff yet), but it’s getting updated every day. Just FYI in case anyone was as excited as I was, haha.
Yep. It’s possible to just pick your hardware, software, and other devices according to your needs. It always bums me out to see people limit themselves by stratifying along ideological lines.
Sometimes it’s enough that it’s fun to go on the computer, y’know?
Mmm, people only get so many bites at the “vociferously defending pedorasty’” apple before you’re written off in my eyes. He is far beyond that point, even after decades of having to listen to people make appeals to authority.
It’s a great idea, but I don’t feel like it’s realistic to how tech companies generate value to angel investors. Unfortunately, the ActivityPub team is a bit aggressive towards larger companies adopting it, and investors are not often keen on working with bodies they don’t control.
It would be so cool to see what the Fedi could do with sheer volume.
Honestly, I think it would cause the same style of dustup as Meta joining. Lots of preemptive defederation, and a lot of struggle over how to integrate communities who are federating.
Me personally, I would love that. To me, the single best value prop for the Fedi is that you can basically choose your own adventure and form a lens of browsing ActivityPub for the kinds of content you’re interested in only.
So being able to, say, subscribe to /r/simpsonsshitposting on my Mastodon account would be killer. In fact it would be amazing to just interface with Reddit’s image content like I would Mastodon, instead of thread by thread.
So I guess TLDR is, I would predict that the Fedi will continue to be reactionary in nature, but it would overall be a very positive thing for the Fedi (as long as ActivityPub is not captured by corporate interests the way that XMPP was).
looks like rendering adblockers extensions obsolete with manifest-v3 was not enough so now they try to implement DRM into the browser giving the ability to any website to refuse traffic to you if you don’t run a complaint browser ( cough…firefox )...
Right now, I am really enjoying Mario & Luigi on GBA. This one somehow missed me, perhaps because I was expecting something closer to Paper Mario at the time.
hello Beehaw, it’s a sleepy morning–and i did not get very much sleep. luckily i have no social priorities so this is not a big deal. currently reading a number of books after completely crashing out of doing that for the entire month of June. i think i can get about 3 in before the end of the month, we’ll see
Sigh, I’m okay. Work is really stressful lately. I went through an acquisition, and really got demoted in both rank and importance. Defeating, but, I’m also still glad to have a job where I can work from where my cats live.
Here is my controversial take: if it is true that a cat needs to be let outdoors unsupervised in order to live a happy life full of enrichment, then we should not have pet cats at all....
Cats might not look like much, but they are some of the most successful and prolific hunters on planet earth. And they also kill entirely to keep their skills sharp.
So as you can imagine, combine an instinctual need to kill for sport with an insatiable desire to explore, you’ve got extremely efficient bird death machines that operate in mile-wide radiuses.
Keeping cats from going outdoors just helps to limit needless disruption to a clade of animals that is already extremely sensitive to deforestation and other external factors.
You can explain to a kid not to play in the street, and punish them if they disobey. You can ask your spouse not to engage in risky behavior with the car. You really can’t explain shit to a cat.
To be honest I like the idea of being able to move my account from a server which is offline to a different one. We should have it with ActivityPub too.

Beeple who have tried both a dual-monitor setup and a single ultrawide setup: which did you prefer?
