Why is it that Americans refer to 24 hour time as military time? I understand that the military uses the 24hr format but I don’t understand why the general public would refer to it like that?...
That sucks, I would have loved to see Asylum come to the surface. Sadly as it's been so many years I don't think it's going to get around to much that it's no longer happening or was happening in the first place.
@Nougat Yeah the only real time I go onto Reddit is via searching something on Google to find the answer to something that someone most likely answered like 5+ years ago.
One of the main things I seem to notice on the Fediverse is that we don't have enough active users when it comes to answering questions as well as commenting.
Starting next week, Youtube will begin playing five minute unskippable ads that are just a video of their CEO telling you why you're a bad person and that he hates you.
@Irelephant PeerTube could if most instances didn't have such a grip on ~5GB limits. I'd love to see something like PeerTube be able to take a bigger hold in the Fediverse Video Section.
I think they forgot why we loved Streaming Services in the first place... well guess I'll continue to not pay for the subscription and watch my shows I enjoy anyway.
God, stayed up all night and now just released how much I have to do today, Do I tempt a 20 minute nap and risk feeling worse or just stay up and know I'm going to be slow today?
It's sort of sad that Mac players won't be able to experience CS2, I have a friend who refuses to get a PC and only have a Mac and I'd love to try them out on CS2.
Like, If they are planning on getting into the Console Market not really, If they are planning on taking EA improving on it and keeping Insomniac doing the spider-man / marvel based games I'm all in, it would be nice to see some really good Disney based games (I don't play star wars jedi but I can see it's a really good game).
@Razzazzika Maybe it would make them take it a little more seriously, as at the moment they seem to just sell the rights to EA and other companies. Simpsons Tapped Out (That has been with EA for a few years now) is filled with Micro Translations as it's a mobile game created by EA but if Disney buys EA maybe they will create Simpsons: Hit and Run Remastered as that's one game that people have been crying out for, for years now.
I feel like the point of 3D printers was "you don't need amazon you just print it in your home!!!" not "buy 3D printed stuff on amazon sold without disclosure it's 3D printed (and certainly off-brand)"
@SirTapTap Pretty much, It seems most people get 3d printers these days to sell the 'creations' they make (downloaded the file off some website) and sell it for a cheap amount to the point they end up with a profit after they have sold 1k units.
Recently purchased Deadpool on Xbox 360, Glad I got it just got to find time between trying out the BETA of Call of Duty, The Edit that I've been sitting on for the past 3+ months as well as Marvel's Spider-Man 2 releasing in less than 10 days.
I've been using a cloud hosting provider under sync.com, great for actively syncing my files between machines I might be using as well if I wished to have any employees's later on as I was paying close to £30 a month I decided that it was best to self-host my files even if it was just by 10TB Hard Drives that only cost £200...
@WeirdGoesPro Yeah it's one of the reasons I hope to self-host, I'd rather know what my data is being used for but also it will be cheaper in the long run. I will have to look into the drive things you where saying about as I don't know how to self-host on a NAS and really would love to move to a NAS in the future.
@Reborn2966 I'm not using Rsync, I'm just using Sync a program/site under sync.com it was alright but the price does not justify what I was using it for and I'd much rather just pay for USB Hard Drives and maybe even build a NAS in the future.
@WeirdGoesPro Thanks, yeah I'm a video editor so I go through a lot of media files and will always need to call back to previous work this is why I need such large Drives as the average joe doesn't really use more than 1TB as I can easily fill that up with only a few Projects. I have an old PC that I put Ubuntu on a year or so back to try out Linux, Personally have to use Windows due to using the Adobe Suite but if I can have my files stored on there and move/access them from my other PC that would be amazing.
Luckily I will be able to test the theory of this out shortly as I will have access to my home office soon with it almost finished being decorated, can't wait to see what I can do and will probably put some updates on this Community.
@Molecular0079 I'll keep that in mind, I hope to more use them for Cold Storage Purposes for my old Video Edits. I hope to create a NAS in the future what I will most likely pay out for these more Pricy drives that are made for 24/7 use.
@Reborn2966 I think so from the 3 seconds I looked at it, I just don't really want to use a Syncing method for anything as it complicates things as well as commonly does charge and I don't really have spare cash for it..
@Molecular0079 I will probably use SSDs for my working storage (As it helps to have speed) but when it comes to Cold Storage / Long Term Storage due to the price of an SSD compared to an HDD I think it would be easier HDD as well as there's some statistic I saw before about how HDDs last longer than SSDs, this might have changed in recent years but unless SSDs get cheaper per TB than HDDs I'll have to probably use a mix for speed and size.
@PM_ME_UR_PCAPS I didn't realize it did but I know most PeerTube Instances have a very low storage limit, So don't think that would be a great option unless I work out how to run my own instance.
@peter From what I can see yes but I'm more thinking of an Interface / Instance to be able to able to access that sort of media. As RTSP seems to just be a Protocol.
@CoffeeDev I would hope it does in the future but as of the moment it seems like Owncast want's to be it's own platform just using bits of the Fediverse as apart of it.
@realcaseyrollins I feel as if people are only sticking with the platform because of a few reasons.
They want to go where the majority of people are
The Brands & people they like to interact with haven't jumped ship either
They are unaware of alternatives such as Kbin or Mastodon (as well as any other that I can't think of atm)
They are Elon fans and hate to think otherwise.
They are super right wing and don't want to join a 'Woke' platform
They don't think a Decentralised system would work
There's probably more other reasons and would love to know your thoughts about what I feel is some of the reasons people don't want to leave X or Twitter, What ever you want to call it.
@JelloBrains Yes you are right, mastodon doesn't have the 'normal' feed they are used to. I like the explanation that it's like a Garden, you have to pick the weeds but the things you grow are much sweeter in the end.
@astrionic I did actually make this point in point number 2. The Brands & people they like to interact with haven't jumped ship either.
This is where Threads is a good example of why it needs to federalize as it actually does have a lot of Brands & people on there and if it did, it would be able to interact with Mastodon as well as the rest of the Fediverse. As well as in my point number 1. They want to go where the majority of people are.
Some people are like sheep and go with the flock, if a big company or influencer moved over to Mastodon or any part of the Fediverse they might actually move across themselves, even if they crosspost it's a good start allowing people to move away from TwitterX if they wish to. But yes the Fediverse has fewer people & brands of the moment but in due time people will mostly get fed-up with being toyed around by these centralized platforms.
@cheerjoy I think in the long-run of the Fediverse it would be better if we can fully export all of our data to a new instance sure maybe still have a redirect account on the original instance you where using but it would be good for not only people that want to move instance to another popular instance but also if someone creates there own allowing you to try out the Fediverse before spending the time running your own instance as apart of it.
@Khouzzeth_Froststone Then if the Fediverse is the best option for people to move to (What it does look like it), They will slowly crash and full if their user experience keeps slowly becoming worse.
I have been looking around the Fediverse to find the right platform for me as I didn't really use Social media before I found the Fediverse, So as the question asks, What makes Kbin better than other Fediverse Instances such as Lemmy and Mastodon?
@novamdomum Yeah Kbin is a great alternative as well as connects with Lemmy an other parts of ActivityPub / The Fediverse so no need to move around to much if you like what you have. I'm personally just waiting for the API to release so I can hopefully get a Mobile Version so I don't always have to login on my phone or browser through the my PC.
@venusenvy47 You are using Lemmy as your main way of accessing Kbin content, I personally use kbin.social as my way to access data from the Fediverse. Currently, there is no app for Kbin as there API hasn't been completed yet. But in the future we hope to be able to login to an app to be able to access Kbin
