Before I left Reddit, I searched for alternatives and saw that people recommended Lemmy or Kbin. But I didn’t know what those things were. I assumed they were just Reddit clones hosted by someone else. I didn’t know that I could create an account on Kbin and interact with other posts in the Fediverse. I didn’t even know what the Fediverse was. So I was stuck with this decision of “do I try Lemmy or Kbin first?”
When I decided to try Lemmy, the first thing you need to do is sign up on an instance. People recommended beehaw.org, but that required filling out an application to join. That seems weird, since I never had to apply to read Reddit. I decided to try another instance (sh.itjust.works) but was worried that I was missing out on what people had recommended about other instances. Maybe I chose the wrong one? Maybe I should make an account on Lemmy.world instead?
It took me a little while to grasp the concept of federation and realize that it made no difference as an end user which instance I chose. I stuck with it, as did everyone reading this, but I think it’s fair to say that the average person has similar barriers to entry. We’ve overcome them, but many, many people will not.

I’ve been recently been thinking about Arkane Studio’s Prey which is a immersive sim, with a pretty good rogue like dlc, that probably has one of the strongest hooks of any game I’ve played. If you liked Halflife, System Shock, or Deus Ex it’s definitely worth a play....
I was mildly a Borderlands fan, but then I played Tales from the Borderlands and fell in love. It’s such a great game with amazing writing and music that I’m always surprised to hear that most people, including fans of the main Borderlands games, have never heard of it.
I just finished listening to Duma Key by Stephen King. For some reason, the narrator thought it was a good idea to lower the volume of their voice and nearly whisper the really dramatic parts. It’d be like “**Her father was a **^smdfprhfjs”
I had to rewind so many times that I was ready to quit. Fantastic book otherwise, but having an option to jump to text real quick would’ve been a life saver.
I know that Diablo isn’t a Capcom game, but if industry leaders are looking at $90 games with battle passes and in game purchases for $20 horse armor is “too low”, then we are truly fucked.
Obviously not looking for hyperaccurate answers, just in general, how many people tend to unsubscribe from promotional emails and how many tick the option “I never signed up for this”?
Not an answer to your question, but yesterday I was annoyed that I unsubscribed to an email list and there wasn’t an option to select that I never signed up for it. My email address has my first initial in it - and my user name does not stand for JulieBalls, seeing that my name isn’t Julie. However, that doesn’t stop Julie for signing me up for all sorts of shitty emails like “Hi Julie, Rand Paul needs your support to fight Facist Fauci”, “Julie, this is Reverend Fuck Knuckles and I need you to pray for Trump”, etc.
When I unsubscribe from these lists they usually make me select an option like “I’m no longer interested in this content.” I’m like “bitch, I was never interested in your trash-ass content!”
Your mom and Julie are probably best friends, cause that’s exactly what’s happening with my email account. It’s like every 6 months, she signs up for something new. I’m guessing she must be confused when she never gets the communication she signed up for? But she probably has a very loose understanding of how email actually works.
My lady has signed up for Care.com to be a nanny, and I frequently get inquiries from families looking to hire her. But yeah, I have no way of actually getting this info to her, since I don’t know her real address. I considered doing a password reset to make her have to get another account, but I wasn’t sure about the ethics and legalities of that.
It won’t matter to his supporters. Trump pardoned Steve Bannon for fraud charges where he was stealing people’s donations to “build the wall”. They still don’t care.
A judge on Tuesday ruled that Donald Trump and his company are liable for fraud by misstating the true values of multiple real estate properties for years and thus grossly overstating the former president’s net worth by billions of dollars....
Not sure what this prompt was, since I didn’t make this one. I linked the site I used above, and they’re pretty simple to do but need a few tries to get a good one.
Findings showed the virtual nose allowed people using the Tuscany villa simulation to play an average of 94.2 seconds longer without feeling sick, while those playing the roller coaster game played an average of 2.2 seconds longer.
Yeah instead of throwing up immediately, you won’t throw up until 2.2 seconds in. Problem solved!
Yeah getting a new headset for the Oculus with a battery in the back is a comfort game changer. It’s not the weight of the headset that’s a problem, it’s that it’s all front loaded.
I’ve been getting data limit alerts for a few months now for a device that isn’t on my account. I couldn’t find a way to tell T-Mobile about it, unless I wait on hold for a phone call. Fuck that.
