Usually it’s pretty easy to see, you just have to look for the interests. Also you can look at the laws and decisions that get passed after these events. Something like a plane crash or titanic sinking is more difficult. But you can usually say that people got rich before that happened and that’s usually one of the reasons it’s happening in the first place.
A fun and informative podcast for such information is “well there’s your problem” which talks about engineering disasters and the aftermath (it’s also very funny)
But just saying: I said the greed is a factor, not the only thing causing a disaster. But usually you’ll find someone has cut corners, didn’t do maintenance, didn’t follow regulations, didn’t employ enough people…

Ach. Die Frage ist ja immer, wer legt die Kategorien fest. Und solange es viele Menschen gibt, die sich und ihre Umgebung wenig hinterfragen, wird es schwer, diese Kategorien aufzubrechen. I’m a total beginner. Studied German for a bit in High School but never really got into it. Been thinking about actually learning it, at least to be able to understand some basic stuff....
German is a complex language to learn by yourself. I highly recommend courses or classes with multiple people in them. I used to teach in these language schools. They usually work quite nicely. A private teacher is also a good idea. I don’t have much good to say about tandems or study groups but your milage may vary.
I really feared that this would be a stupid article about how Germany cannot criticise Israel or how they have an obligation to support the eradication of Palestine. But I actually agree with some of the assessment of the dangers.
Yet while artists and writers are cancelled for their alleged antisemitism, real neo-Nazism is on the rise, with the far-right party AfD, Alternative for Germany, winning local elections and mainstream politicians float the idea of doing deals with them.
This is clearly the danger about the whole Antisemitism debate
I have been reading Finnegans Wake over the course of this year, a few pages a day, along with a group over on reddit. It is one of the very few things that still keeps me visiting reddit at all....
Yes I have done something similar on a bigger scale. I’ve participated in a reading/discussion circle that spanned about 200+ people in different countries. We’ve all read a philosophical book and there were cards that had most of the chapters’ contents on them, so you didn’t necessarily need the book. We were encouraged to find a reading partner close by to discuss a chapter per week. I still meet up with my reading partner regularly even months after the project ended.
It was the only way I would have worked through the complex book. I wouldn’t have done it alone.
“the book of Mirdad” by Mikha’il Na’ima. I just wanted everyone to read it. It’s a philosophical narrative of strive, peace, perspective, growth… When I read it I gained hope for humanity.
I cannot say enough about this book. It’s opened my head and broadened my horizon.
In a similar but more practical way: “the power of now” by Eckart Tolle is something that I quote from even years after reading it. Like the title suggests, it’s a helper to find the moment, the presence in the present.
I love this description! I don’t play the game. I just think it’s such a wholesome way to live masculinity. I like to think it encapsulates my style pretty much 🤩🥳

But isn’t modding essentially already Community-driven self-government? Nobody’s getting paid for being a mod right?(?) You can be a mod. Modding isn’t a “reward”, it’s a chore. Sure, some might exploit their position. But self-government here means that the community is then in charge of either taking the power back or creating a different community page. You are not bound to the mods. They don’t have power over you that you don’t give to them

How do you want to get good content on YouTube without anyone paying for it? Can’t be mad if the content is getting worse and the sponsor messages are getting more and more.
