I have a vague idea to create a wiki for politics-related data. Basically, I’m annoyed with how low-effort, entirely un-researched content dominates modern politics. I think a big part of the problem is that modern political figures use social media platforms that are hostile to context and citing sources....
Moderating is a bitch. Moderating anything is bad. Just the other day a non-nsfw pic of a gaping vagina and a half-excreted shit got onto the 2nd page of hot. And this is just lemmy.
Political wiki is asking for the worst dregs – online policy wonks – to notice you.
I’m not saying don’t do it. Just be ready to wade into the worst sewage humanity has to offer.
So I made a passing comment of “it’s almost like private car ownership is a really inefficient use of space and resources” the other day, which I didn’t really pay much mind to. But all the replies were either explaining the concept of public transportation as if I don’t know that’s the solution to private car...
There’s like 7 billion more people now than when cats were invented.
I don’t know what other comments you’re talking about, but this seems like an application of the toddler rule. I can’t find it, but there was a great tumblr thread about this. You’ll never be able to prevent nay-sayers and people second guessing what you post by covering all those bases in your post or comment.
Some toddler is still going to point out that your comments about the grass being green doesn’t account for bark being brown.
You just gotta pat them on the head and be kind. Eventually they’ll grow up.
There’s only a few recorders who actually check title, called Torrens, when you record something in the US. 99% of them work under abstract where literally anyone can record anything as long as they pay the county recorder and meet the basic requirements like have a notary stamp.
There’s a good chance if you’re in the US that I could just record a deed giving me ownership of your house or apartment complex. I’d have to fraudulently sign your name as grantor, but the county isn’t going to stop me. You’ll have to stop me.
There’s a whole huge industry around recording and verifying deeds for sales to deal with that type of nonsense. First, they won’t want to get dismantled. Fidelity is huge for example. Sort of like how TurboTax inserts themselves between you and paying taxes. Fidelity inserts themselves between you buying and selling a house.
A verified Blockchain would essentially turn everything into torrens instead of abstract title. I think that’s a good thing and I’d rather pay the government to verify the transaction than done for profit company that’s going to review title as quickly and cheaply as possible.
Nevermind having to deal with a title insurance industry – like all insurance – that’s inherently be incentivised to reduce costs by not paying claims.
I sometimes do and I did just a few minutes ago as I’m typing this. I decided 5 out of 7, whether or not I was going to go to a chinese buffet today. The coin decided 5-3, that I will. Then I wanted the coin to decide if I’m going thrifting today and with a landslide of 0-5, it didn’t want me to....
Post flip clarity is real for me. If the flip doesn’t go the way I wanted I’ll just recognize that emotion and do whichever thing I actually wanted more.
I consistently hear people on YouTube complain that the subscribe button doesn’t do anything for viewers, now that channel notifications are controlled by the bell. But it does do something: it puts the videos from that channel in your subscription feed, which is readily accessible on all versions of YouTube. So why do people...
I’ve heard that the subscription feed doesn’t always show you uploads from the creators you’re subscribed to.
I must not be subscribed to enough people for that to happen.
Otherwise, I don’t let a non-subscription video live in my history unless liked it, and I generously block channels for the slightest click bait bullshit, so my home feed is pretty consistent as well.
Why think there’s somethin to be said, something worthwhile, in the comments. It’s almost never true. OP is almost always the one doing the work to make something or make a statement. Keep the votes, but lose the people trying to score points in the comments.
Don’t take this the wrong way, but this is the content of a typical comment. If you had researched and posted how the nyt removed comments on their articles and then there was a study how reader satisfying went down, that might’ve added something to the conversation.
The controversy around Jason Aldean’s “Try that in a Small Town” got me thinking. What are some things that you wish you could do in a small town that you just can’t?...
Walked into a small town restaurant the other day. Literally everyone looked up from their plates to clock who it was. Beat them all with the game. Caught a few Peter gazing as a consequence.
I mean, come on, they don’t even give you enough currency from the pass to buy the next one. Rocket League does it, CoD does it, Red Dead Redemption did it and neither those companies suffered damage to their bottom line....
I contextualize seasons with expansions. LoD was like 30 bucks? That was two new classes. The runes and charms. Another act, so like 4 more tilesets. It was a good xpack.
Hearts are kind of like the runes. So that’s one out of the three. Guess we’ll see in 3 seasons if the cost/value is there or not. If we don’t have at least one more class I’ll be disappointed.
The wardrobe team is very excited about outfit farming and targeting. We do have plans for season 2 to target farm a deep v or other clothing aspects they’re looking for.
Curious to see how they address community feedback. My money is on them ignoring it nearly completely and focusing solely on the Season 1 launch, reminiscent of the classic “do you not have phones?” fiasco.
Many players are reporting that they can’t move to World Tiers 3 and 4 after completing the Capstone dungeon. Instead there seem to be level requirements implemented. This is only the case on new characters created after the patch. Apparently, these come in at level 50 for the WT2 to WT3 transition, and at level 70 for WT3 to...
I have played the campaign of Diablo 4 - I did not have much expectation but I got bored fairly early in the game. With each new game, franchises are supposed to get better, but I am not sure that is the case with Diablo....
Entertainment isn’t usually functionally useful. Same goes for criticism which usually comes down to taste.
That being said, there are some options that are better than others. D1 is not better than D4. D4 isn’t excessively good compared to it’s contemporaries either. If lost ark wasn’t such a predatory pos is still be playing it over D4, for example.
The Buckingham Palace looks pretty mid tbh
They could’ve done better.

Is it dumb to create a wiki in this day and age?

Rant: So apparently some people think because I don't support private car ownership, I also don't support public transit and still support urban sprawl?
