eagleeyedtiger,

I actually liked Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Both main actors were objectively terrible, but I still liked the movie 🤷‍♂️

eagleeyedtiger,

Yeah that’s a good take, it’s like a modern Fifth Element.

I have seen Chronicle, but I probably need to rewatch it. Not sure if they just had bad direction or writing, but they seemed more like siblings instead of love interests.

eagleeyedtiger,

I unironically enjoyed Knowing (2009).

Also more light-hearted - Seeking A Friend for the End of the World (2012)

Not entirely disaster films, but the world ends in both.

eagleeyedtiger,

Have to agree with you there. The ending was the weakest part of it.

Genius.com usually has annotations to explain song lyrics. Usually they’re guessing the intent of the artist though. Or are you wanting differing interpretations? I’m not sure if there’s anything like that.

eagleeyedtiger,

I really liked the climbing mechanic. Sadly I had to stop after about an hour. Something about the FOV or camera was giving me intense motion sickness, but otherwise a really nice game.

eagleeyedtiger,

This article is from 2022. I received an email from YouTube yesterday for the Turkey family plan is going up to 115.99 TRY from 59.99.

eagleeyedtiger,

I’ve been trying to progress in Forza Motorsport, but the infinite loading screen bug is stopping me from playing. After almost every second race it doesn’t save my progress and I have to kill the game and lose all the progress because it refuses to save.

Also I got a new controller for PC, can anyone recommend good controller games that are on PC Gamepass?

eagleeyedtiger,

If you have a decent blender, making smoothies is an easy way. If you don’t like the taste you can just hold your nose and gulp it down.

eagleeyedtiger,

That’s a good one. I like to use tropical mix frozen fruit in summer. Usually has pineapple, mango, dragon fruit etc. in it

How many ingredients does it take to call it a salad?

My significant other ate cucumbers and onion with some ranch. I called it a cucumber onion salad. She says there aren’t enough ingredients to call it a salad, because “it takes multiple ingredients”. I pointed out she had three and asked what the minimum is. She refuses to answer so I ask Lemmy.

eagleeyedtiger,

So if I put my fries on a seperate plate it’s a salad? Good to know

eagleeyedtiger,

Potatoes come from a plants roots and should be considered a vegetable. And fries are made of potatoes. Therefore I say it’s a salad.

eagleeyedtiger,

According to Wikipedia:

The potato is a starchy food, a tuber of the plant Solanum tuberosum and is a root vegetable native to the Americas.

They are usually sold with the other vegetables in a supermarket because they are a root vegetable.

Let’s stop arguing and just enjoy fries instead

What do you think is a good required completion time for video games? What examples come to mind of games that felt just right?

I used to like open world games that would take 50+ hours to beat but I feel like as I get older these games can be intimidating to even start and I often get sidetracked with other games frequently only getting half to three quarters of the way through....

eagleeyedtiger,

I think it’s highly dependent on the player. I’m not a completionist in any sense, I mainly play games to have fun. I stop playing them when I stop having fun. I’ve put down games after a few hours and I’ve played some for hundreds of hours.

The gameplay loop in that sense is important whether it remains fun and keeps me coming back. Time is short as you get older and I guess I don’t really care about beating games.

eagleeyedtiger,

I would love a Chaos Theory remake/remaster!

eagleeyedtiger,

I recently finished Alastair Reynolds’ House of Suns, which I enjoyed. It’s actually the first of his books I’ve read. I’m looking forward to reading more of his books.

Currently I’m reading Neuromancer for the first time.

eagleeyedtiger,

What’s your favourite standalone book from him? I’m not wanting to start any series at the moment.

eagleeyedtiger,

Thanks! I’ll add them to my ‘To read’ list.

eagleeyedtiger,

I would totally watch Shrek 2: The Passion of the Christ

Favorite uses for cucumbers (beehaw.org)

Just inherited a bunch of cucumbers from a friend’s garden. I love them just on their own with some salt, and have made many a salad using them. I’m curious what kinds of fun things you all may use them for. Even if you feel like it’s basic please share as I will be eating cucumbers for the next several days straight lol....

eagleeyedtiger,

Chinese style smashed cucumber salad with chilli and sesame oil

eagleeyedtiger,

I quite like the later novels, both Surface Detail and Hydrogen Sonata are fresher in my mind. But I do remember enjoying Player of Games and Excession as well. Inversions was probably my least enjoyed Culture book.

I think you can really jump in any where as they’re all mostly seperate stories.

eagleeyedtiger,

I agree with that. I meant I didn’t really like it as much as the rest of the Culture books. I read them in published order, so I was familiar by the time I got to Inversions.

eagleeyedtiger,

“Falling Outside The Normal Moral Constraints” is another in that vein I liked

eagleeyedtiger,

Just cast Terry Crews as all of them, Eddie Murphy style

eagleeyedtiger,

You shouldn’t trust anything uploaded there by IGGGames. They’ve been caught before adding miners to their files. I downloaded the rune release somewhere else seeing as they were the uploader on 1337x. I only really use 1337x for fitgirl repacks.

eagleeyedtiger,

I mean I do grab the torrent link from the fitgirl site, but I find the torrent faster to download than the direct download links.

eagleeyedtiger,

I still remember all the online chatter about Heath Ledger getting cast as the Joker. The guy from Brokeback Mountain and A Knight’s Tale?

Then he gives us the most iconic live action Joker potrayal which hasn’t really been been surpassed in 15 years.

eagleeyedtiger,

I enjoy the jokes, but has anyone given an explanation of what it likely is?

eagleeyedtiger,

I wanted to guess gravitational lensing, but couldn’t see how that would make a question mark… it’s still pretty cool!

What are you Reading? (August 2023) (lemmy.world)

I’ve put together a collage of some books from last months What are you Reading? post. It’s mostly random, but the more discussion something gets the more it stands out to me. Going forward I’m going to make a new post every month to talk about what people are reading....

eagleeyedtiger,

I just finished The Deep Sky by Yume Kitasei. It was a decent page-turner that kept me wanting to read the next chapter.

Still haven’t decided what to read next. Are there any good newish cyberpunk books?

eagleeyedtiger,

Bachelor Chow, now with flavor!

eagleeyedtiger,

Cats do not abide by the laws of nature. They can flatten themselves out and go right through a seam in your wall

eagleeyedtiger,

I once watched my dad watch a whole movie on his TV with the play bar up. I was waiting to see how long it would take him to notice and move it. Nope he watched the whole damn movie with it there.

eagleeyedtiger,

Oh god, that r/ffffuuuu or whatever subreddit lasted way too long

eagleeyedtiger,

There cannot be people who still find those entertaining in 2023 can there? I don’t want to go on reddit to check

eagleeyedtiger,

The straight pulverize build can still work without uniques. I switched mid 60’s from trampleslide to pulverize. You have to alter it slightly for the spirit issues, but most of the power comes from the paragon boards I feel. I’ve only found one vasily’s and that was around 79/80… Truthfully I’m kind of bored of it too, I usually run a couple of NMD’s or helltide then get bored. Really just waiting for the season to start so I can roll a new class.

eagleeyedtiger,

I have 37 rapid fire/flurry rogue which is actually pretty fun and seems to not run out of resource easily. I don’t know if I’m going to spend any more time on it though with S1 being so close.

I really want to make a fire sorcerer, but unless they balance it so there’s more viability outside of ice builds, I’m worried it’ll suck once you get to the 70-80’s.

Also tempted to try a thorns barb. I’m going to have to try the bone spear necro at some point too I guess!

eagleeyedtiger,

Nice! I’m level 83 and still no tempest roar… I want to try a different build but I keep getting hunters zenith or frostburn gloves or penitent greaves :(

eagleeyedtiger,

Oh yeah, I’m definitely not running a Druid for S1. I’ve not seen a Crone either. I know it’s rng but I don’t get why we keep getting the same ones over and over or if there just aren’t enough uniques.
