My wife changed her Windows work laptop last week. Her Desktop is synced to OneDrive so really she just needs to login. Despite that she was panicking that her PDF’s were gone. They weren’t, it’s just that the new laptop has a newer version of Adobe Reader which uses an updated icon.
Some people are just tech illiterate and the slightest difference can be upsetting. My mum’s the same with her phone. Using Google Maps to navigate is an achievement for her and I’ve been telling her to use it for years. The first time she did she reached her destination literally shaking. She was also amazed with herself that she had done it.
That’s always been my argument. Updates for the OS or even apps in Google Play should be presented immediately if the user is doing a manual check for updates. Sure, continue the staged rollouts, but only for those who are updating automatically.
The check for updates button has been working fine for a few years now but as of this month my Pixel 8 is still on the November patch. My wife’s Pixel 6 is on the December patch after I did a manual check on her phone. Frustrating.
I ‘watched’ it on YouTube after it had finished. Thankfully so as I ended up skipping though the majority of it. It felt like one big advert with content in certain places where they had room between trailers.
I have got my OLED Steamdeck today and made a picture with my old one side by side. The display is a little bit bigger, the touch screen is way better (more like a smartphone).
The original got a PS5 update to 60 FPS. I think what we’re actually seeing is the remaster that will hit the PC. Same routine as the first game which saw a remaster for the PS5, then the PC and eventually the TV series. No doubt this will fall in line for season 2.
The thing is Steam has been around for a long time. I mean hell my account is 20 years old now. Steam wasn’t always a store though, however, they were first to market as a digital games store.

Not to take anything away from them but other than not being on an official YouTube channel I did think this was a brand new game given it says ‘official’. A bit deceiving.
I have no doubts it will be implemented in a way that still benefits Apple and its ecosystem. Also to help their cause to keep iMessage locked into Apple devices with that EU ruling. Still, this is great news.

The long fight to make Apple’s iMessage compatible with all devices has raged with little to show for it. The law, which goes into effect in 2024, requires...
I signed up for skiff when looking at providers to move away from Gmail but the one thing that stopped me was they didn’t have a way to export mail. I know it’s on their list but until then I can’t use it.
Their free tier is very generous too. 10GB of storage would be ample for all my saved mail.
I’m far from being privacy conscious as some in this community but just switching to Firefox and Duckduckgo from Chrome and Google has yielded amazing results for me. I no longer feel like everything I do online is being tracked.
Previously, I’d be forever using incognito to perform searches. Just to try and avoid seeing constant ads based on my searches. Since switching I no longer have to do this.
Ha. As a cyclist I hear this all the fucking time. Road tax is based on emissions. Regular tax pays for road maintenance. People also forget that the majority of cyclists are also car owners themselves.
Let’s face it. The days of having to make a decent game to get sales is dead. Now it’s churn out games with in game purchases and add-ons to maximize profit.
I love the internet, but it surely is a shit place right now. It’s now just a place to make as much revenue as possible. Going back to a 56k modem would be too painful but man the internet was just so cool back then. No ads, just the feeling of something new and everyone was in on it.
I run Plex, Jellyfin, nginx, nginx proxy manager, AdGuard, portainer, a flame startpage, nextcloud, unifi controller and Wireguard on a Pi4 4GB. I don’t really run into any CPU issues. Transcoding video on Jellyfin or Plex though is a no no though.
Pointless fact, I was walking to get lunch from work and saw Chris (the guy from explaining computers) crossing the road. Made me double take. This was a few years back when I first saw his Pi videos.
Honestly. Off the back of this debacle I switched to Firefox and duckduckgo. Previously I used to use the shit out of incognito because I hated that when I searched for something once that I then get that thing popping up everywhere else in ads etc. Since the switch I no longer get the feeling of being stalked.
I recently acquired an Intel Compute Stick during a liquidation sale. Has anyone used one of these as a home server? I currently host UmbrelOS on a RPi 4, which works great, but I can’t imagine what I would use the Compute Stick for…
Transcoding is basically a no no on the Pi. Without transcoding though it can happily do multiple streams. I’ve had three or four at once with no issues.
Being at the bottom makes more sense on today’s larger phones. I’m just so used to it being at the top it’s hard to get used to it being at the bottom of the screen.
As far as I know. We’re waiting on Apple to update iOS to locate rogue trackers. Google was holding off on the summer release until this was done. I can’t imagine Apple will rush to get this done to slow the release of a competitors product.
