Inspired by the ongoing Resurgence giveaway, I thought it might be fun to discuss some of our favourite Trek games. Underappreciated gems are particularly welcome!
I really enjoyed Star Trek: Klingon, on PC back in the day. It was officer cultural sensitivity holodeck training for the officer exchange program. You had to make decisions appropriate to Klingon social customs. It was bundled with a Klingon language learning program with speech recognition tech. Very cool stuff for 1996 CD-ROM games.
I’ve never bothered to check, because I self host to serve 1-5 users, and I’ve never generated enough traffic for any ISP to notice. I would need to pay them more for a static IP address, but we have dynamic DNS services for that. My ISP doesn’t put any actual obstacles in place beyond dynamic IP.
If you do not teach proprietary software un schools, you will hobble your students’ job hunting potential. We should ALSO teach open source alternatives, and teach the idea that there are functional alternatives, but a student who has never used the major apps isn’t getting their resume even looked at by a human.

The problem with using YT videos is that they are transitory. Also, you’re then subjecting your reader to somebody else’s advertisements for their gain.

I run BicBucStrim on my NAS, and I access it through the web browser of any PC or tablet, my Kobo eReader, or Mobiscribe eReader. You can download a book to the device to read it, though. It basically just generates a nice web layout to access your Calibre library.
The Pill became available right as the first wave of Boomers came of age. They were the first generation to have it available when they were at that college/marriage age. The Pill didn’t end Boomers. The Pill is why there are so many fewer Gen Xers; because Boomers used The Pill. There was slower uptake among the parents.
Every generation before Gen X was conceived without The Pill being available. The fact that it did not exist has nothing to do with why there were more Boomers than there were Greatest Generation or Silent Generation.

If you have a poor quality, low density (often mass produced), ceramic plate, there are tiny air bubbles inside it. These vibrate when the microwave runs, heating the plate faster/more than the food. This is the same reason why some mug handles get hot enough for 2nd or 3rd degree burns in the microwave while others never get the “microwave handle of death”. Better made ceramics will have far fewer (or none) of these bubbles. This is why usually hand made pottery will not heat up like this, while factory stuff that was quickly poured into molds often will.
I know two, plus one other who only reviews when it is very bad. Just always look at middle and low end reviews, and be very extremely choosy about sellers, and roll the dice.
Youtube let the other shoe drop in their end-stage enshittification this week. Last month, they required you to turn on Youtube History to view the feed of youtube videos recommendations. That seems reasonable, so I did it. But I delete my history every 1 week instead of every 3 months. So they don’t get much from my choices....
Recall that YouTube is Google. Since they are scraping massive amounts of data about users from browser and phone apps, I feel like they should be paying me, really. Google profits off of the content we create for them, and then profits off of tracking us both online and offline, and then they have the gall to charge us money for it and show us ever more obnoxious advertisements. They’ve trained their AI products off of every gmail ever written and every Google Voice call every made, every YouTube video ever uploaded, and I absolutely refuse to feel any sympathy for them trying to bleed more money from the public.
I have seen many people in this community either talking about switching to Brave, or people who are actively using Brave. I would like to remind people that Brave browser (and by extension their search engine) is not privacy-centric whatsoever....
Call them on the telephone, and tell a human you would like to make a reservation. Telephone voice calls still work at every restaurant in my region. Also, get this, you can place take out orders that way at most places! It’s an amazing technology!
I also get a button along with those to continue in my browser (on mobile). I just tap to continue on Firefox, and it works (at least on any subs that are not NSFW).
I’m not sure when it was written, but I ran across this list of the best science fiction and fantasy books this century, and I resonated with the ones I’ve read, so I thought I’d see what others thought of it. Have you read many of them?
Oh, yes, the world was pretty, but the characters were all so shallow and undeveloped that I didn’t care what happened to them. Even the intelligent semi divine dragons were just flat powerful placeholders with no character. It was also transparent to see plot points, such as they were, from a mile away.
If you like lots of customization options out of the box, then Samsung. If you like using a pen to write (or convert handwriting to text) or draw, then Samsung. If you want barebones Google and don’t want extra features or customizations, then Pixel. It depends what you like.
Nicotine still has negative health effects, even without tar. It is not harmless. We’ve also had multiple waves of badly manufactured carts with lead contamination, chemicals known to cause lung damage, etc. It harms everyone who vapes. And everyone whose face they blow vape into. But, it at least far less obnoxious than actual cigarettes.
Without getting a signed legal consent document in advance, how do you as a young person prove that any sex act was consensual? You can’t, usually. This can breed crippling fear of real life encounters.
The political/sociological climate tends to affect these things. Combine that with the super easy access to porn and other online options, along with financial strain, and it begins to look like a compelling set of sociological pressures. Do not use their router. You are not required to. I have xfinity, and I use my own modem and my own router. No monthly rental fee. Just takes a little research before purchase.
It saves me $10 per month, and that $120 per year is more than worth it. Plus, my home network is none of their business, and using your own equipment is your only means of privacy and control within your own network. I understand that not everyone cares, but consumers should be educated.

Chocolate oatmeal. Grab a box of rolled oats, a bag of sugar, and a thing of cocoa powder from Aldi. Put half a cup of oats, a couple of teaspoons of sugar, and about half a teaspoon of cocoa powder in a bowl. Add enough water or milk to cover the oats. Stir, and microwave a minute at a time, watching g the bowl to make sure it doesn’t boil over. When the oats are soft, enjoy!

Carbonated anything is bad for your bones and teeth, long term. That’s not avoidable by drinking diet soda. Artificial sweeteners have been shown to still cause simular effects in the body to actual sugar in some cases, and other health issues over time.
Coffee drinks as typically ordered at Starbucks are also filled with unhealthy additions and should be treats, not daily staples. Plain drip coffee taken black is healthier, but rather gross, yet I know people who drink it
I’m team tea, myself. Definitely the superior drink. Actually strengthens your teeth (stains them yet makes them stronger) if you dont add sugar. Just don’t carbonate it or add too much other stuff to it if you’re after health.

You’re a primitive human in the wild. You’re hunting, tracking the prey for a long time. You get distracted and start doing something else. You die. Perhaps even your entire family may starve. This is why it’s a disorder across very different environments. It can affect the person’s ability to cope across extremely different environments.
Likewise, if you have impulse control problems with your ADHD, you might not be able to prevent yourself from making a noise or movement at the wrong time, scaring off the prey or getting the attention of a predator (like a lion). Well, there goes your survival once again.
Since changing the world in that way (suggested by Izzy) is impossible, it is trolling everyone to suggest that the problem isn’t real because if the environment were changed it wouldn’t be a problem. It’s a hypothetical fantasy and should have been stated as such. It’s a shallow excuse to argue to invalidate the experiences of others. An attempt to lessen how seriously this disorder is seen. It is so precisely written and constructed to do this, that it seems quite impossible to have been an accident. Basic composition classes in college struggle to teach people to do this on purpose so clearly and succinctly.

Being able to recognize poison ivy. Growing up in a forest, it was one of many basic automatic skills learned in childhood, and I see and avoid it without much thought. I’ve had to prevent many friends from other regions or countries from causing themselves serious harm by ignorance of poison ivy, though.
