PrivacyGuides recommends Brave…

Just use uBlock Origin, does the same thing but one less extension to fingerprint.

id say its more ethical to pirate adobe software than pay for it

Google emails revealing disagreements b/w Product and Advertising teams about manipulating search to drive ad revenue (gizmodo.com.au)

tl/dr: email chains used as evidence in DOJ Google antitrust case show internal arguments about drops in # of searches, and how to increase them so that people see more ads. Search team wants to create better search results to keep people coming back....

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Why not just use SearXNG? They basically do the same thing.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Just wanna say that Spotify’s DRM sucks. Plenty of scrapers out there.

I think it also shows that DRM is completely useless.

What VPN do you use and why?

If you are a pirate VPN is an essential tool. I am trying to ascertain the popularity of various VPNs in piracy community. In this excerise, I will list several Popular VPNs in the comment if you use one of them just upvote that comment and reply the reason. If you don’t find your VPN listed add a comment with just their name....

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I use Mullvad because I don’t need port forwarding. If you are using a VPN specifically for piracy I would use a seedbox, cheap ones aren’t that much more expensive.

Just some advice, Privacy Badger, NoScript, ClearURLs, and LocalCDN are all redundant nowadays. uBlock does ClearURLs and NoScripts job, Total Cookie Protection does Privacy Badgers job and LocalCDNs job.

Also you might want to consider using RFP instead of CanvasBlocker, the more people using it the better it is for everyone.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar
  • uBlock Origin
  • Mullvad Browser Extension
  • KeePassXC
eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

CanvasBlocker should be doing the same exact thing. If some images aren’t glitchy messes then CanvasBlocker isn’t working. And you can always let websites use your canvas data if you need to.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

uBlock has NoScript built in if you turn it on, and has removeparam functionality by turning on some extra lists.

As for the images thing, I’m not really sure. If a sites images break with RFP I just don’t use that site.

RED or OPS are the two best options in my opinion, and they both have interview processes.

Side note: Soulseek is good, but I’ve found that a lot of the FLACs on it are transcoded.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I don’t even have antivirus on my computer. I almost exclusively use private trackers and download music/shows/movies.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

or yknow… just get rid of car dependency

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

PT can’t get people places because of all the cars… (And the underfunding and poor engineering)

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

How are buses supposed to get anywhere when they are blocked by cars?? There’s a reason most places (that aren’t car dependent) have bus lanes. There’s places it doesn’t go because there’s not enough public transport. And there’s not enough public transport because there’s no room for it, because places are filled with cars.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I mean they tore down the country based off PT, so they can do the other way around.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Mullvad

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

this

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

if you need port forwarding i would just buy a seedbox

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

If you disagree with a comment, you have the ability to downvote it.

eya,

fair

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Ghostery is redundant with total cookie protection

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

As far as I’m aware it’s available on Android. It’s built into Enhanced Tracking Protection.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Most private trackers ban BiglyBT, hope the same doesn’t happen to QBittorrent

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Soulseek is cool but I’ve found a lot of the flacs on it to just be transcoded. (You can check with spectral analysis, frequencies dont extend all the way to 22 kHz)

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

such as Redacted or Orpheus, but life is what it is (invites are understandably hard to come by).

RED has an interview to get an invite, it’s free.

Shkshkshk, to piracy
@Shkshkshk@dice.camp avatar

Is ProtonVPN worth it?

@piracy

Got reminded of this while reading about ProtonMail. The reason I haven't gotten into proper is that I don't have a VPN for torrenting, and the reason I don't have a VPN is that I don't . So it would be nice if I got a good VPN while myself.

Will ProtonVPN rat me out to Comcast? I know some VPNs don't hide what you're downloading from your ISP, for reasons I don't fully understand.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

From what I’ve heard ProtonVPN isn’t really recommended. Use Mullvad or use AirVPN if you need port forwarding. (Mullvad removed port forwarding a few months ago).

If you are just using a VPN for pirating then I would just spend that VPN money on a seedbox.

What the heck, YouTube?

I’ve only subscribed to YouTube Premium for the past two months, and I like the ad-free experience and Music streaming bundled in one price, PHP159 or $3/month. Will this probably my last? Yesterday morning, Google automatically charged me for my YouTube Premium subscription through my e-wallet service....

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I haven’t encountered these issues with Librewolf. What kind of websites are breaking?

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yet another reason to not use Brave.

eya,

classic “protecting the children” to do something terrible excuse

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

What addons are you using that are Chromium exclusive? Also, Ungoogled Chromium exists.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

This comment is just confusing. Sure, go ahead and use whatever you want, but at least be informed about what you’re using. As for the anti-fingerprinting tech, Firefox has had that for a very long time.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Proprietary

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Firefox killed SSB, not PWA, no? As far as I’m aware it was a buggy mess, and I don’t think PWA has been standardized yet.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I made this post because people in this community were suggesting Brave as a privacy focused browser. As far as I’m aware, no other post like this exists in this community specifically.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Fair.

eya, (edited )
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It’s a well known fact that Firefox is full of telemetry that you need to turn off. There’s a reason for so many user.js files and forks existing.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I’d say that many telemetry servers counts as spyware.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Using Chromium at all is supporting Google’s dominance over the market. If you want to support a company that has taken advantage of its users, and committed actual crimes while doing so, be my guest. This post is a recommendation, not a rule.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Proprietary, controlled by the Chinese Government, spyware, Chromium.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Chromium, proprietary.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I don’t think this thread is detailed enough to be pinned, but thanks.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I hate Brave because of the reasons I listed in the post (among other things). Sure the CEO is an ass but the software also sucks.

eya,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

always use containers or something similarly named

This is built into Firefox.
