I get the feeling that you don’t understand that you don’t need to sign up at the other instance to subscribe to the community. You can just click the link and subscribe from your current account, and everything will be as it was.

petition: Defederate any instances that federates with threads proactivly , add threads.net on blocklists everywhere.

I really want to nip threads in the bud. Besides blocking threads.net itself, defederate from any instances that do not. This is blatantly an EEE strategy and a united front is the only way to save what have been accomplished. Here is how Indivudals can do it on mastodont as an example to follow....

This is getting ridiculous. Every thread about this is just people parroting “embrace, extend, extinguish” and “enshittification” ad nauseam. No one is actually saying how they could accomplish that. Even if they’re technically federated (which I doubt will happen, Meta will probably just want to federate with a couple of the biggest Mastodon servers) we will barely interact with them at all, think of how rarely Mastodon posts show up here. This is a grounded article on what’s going on: blog.joinmastodon.org/…/what-to-know-about-thread…

Not that I’m a fan of either of them, but the idea that moderation=censorship is so braindead.

Also pebbleyeet is a nazi.

No kidding. I’ve found I’ve got increasingly more impatient with slow talkers since I started messing with the playback speed. I used to watch videos at 1.25-1.5x, now its up to 2.5-3x

SilentStorms,
@SilentStorms@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

Yeah, I would rather not get abusive DMs from some loser demanding to know why I downvoted them. At least don’t show lemmy users’ votes. Kbin users can agree to opt-in to that by using the service, we can’t.

SilentStorms,
@SilentStorms@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

I don’t think Google is that stupid. A very significant portion of users never log in, more than Twitter. They’d lose so much ad revenue.

SilentStorms,
@SilentStorms@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

Probably not a good idea, unless you could somehow set up an onion instance. Dread is already a thing for that anyway.

SilentStorms,
@SilentStorms@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

Maybe a community around how to get set up with tor, and basics of opsec and that sort of thing would be ok. I think talkinging about markets themselves and the products you get there is playing with fire, set them up to get to Dread, and have them take it from there.

Its surprisingly impressive for a web app, when installed its hardly noticable that its not native.

There’s an “Install” button in Firefox in the menu.

“I was about to turn 30 next year [under the traditional Korean age system], but now I have some more time earned, and I love it,” Choi Hyun-ji, a 27-year-old office worker in Seoul, told the Reuters News agency.

I actually don’t get how this works, and I lived in South Korea for a year. I get that your age increases on New Year’s Day, but how can you be any more than a year older than your “international age”?

SilentStorms,
@SilentStorms@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

I heard about it last year when I was getting into Mastodon during all the Twitter drama. When I visited, it was a ghost town. Glad it took off now though, I’ve been looking for an excuse to jump off reddit for years.

The Yotaphone was released and had a successor, they were just rare because they needed to be imported from Russia. Such a cool concept, I wish they’d bring them back.

There’s some Chinese companies making eink smartphones now, the tech has advanced a lot in the past decade; the resolution and refresh rate are pretty impressive.

Jerboa for now. The other ones I’ve tried were not information dense, only showing 3 or 4 posts on screen at a time, or had other issues. Looking forward to trying Artemis and Sync.

That’s assuming that employers follow the law, which for restaurants is rarely the case.

I’ve loved Technology Connections ever since I saw his riveting hour long video on dishwashing detergent. I don’t even have a dishwasher.

I can’t read comments over there anymore, they’ve become some of the biggest bootlickers on the site. Moving to Lemmy was a very effective way to filter out all the dipshits.

Seconding this, I really like the Absinthe theme from this set.

I just updated Jerboa and now it won't let me login due to us not being on 0.18.0 :( Not the end of the world if its just gonna be a couple of days, the (buggy) web version exists. But damn, was so used to Jerboa.

A police officer who was fired for cheating on her husband with multiple different coworkers while on the job. She got a disproportionate amount of hate compared to the other officers involved.

I’m loving this and have contributed a bunch already, but one problem I’m noticing is people labeling things “reviews” on videos that are definitely not reviews, like impressions videos or unboxings.

I love Lemmy, but I feel like people are overestimating the ability of the platform. Stability and usability issues aside, there's the question of why would John Oliver come here? We don't have any history of celebrity AMAs, and highest estimates of our userbase puts us at maybe 1% of reddit, or 1 million users. For comparison's sake Ashens has 1.5 million subscribers on YouTube, do you think he could suddenly decide to do interviews and have the pull to get someone like John Oliver?

I think reaching out to Christian Selig or Louis Rossmann as other commenters suggested is more realistic, and would probably be a better experience for everyone involved.

@SilentStorms@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

I find sorting by “new comments” is better for now. Hot seems broken

So much irony especially coming from a piracy sub. You'd think pirates would support decentralized communities. It's also just another example of reddit's complete inability to understand how protests work; they're supposed to be an inconvenience, that's literally the point.

Oh well, I'm kinda glad a lot of them are staying there, there's a noticable lack of toxicity here vs. reddit. I just hope the decent ones will make their way over.

Anna’s Archive is great. Finding this was a silver lining to the Zlib shutdown. I have it installed to the home screen on my android eink reader and its pretty seamless.

SilentStorms,

Anna's Archive is, in my opinion, superior to Z-lib.

I miss the innovation of early 2010s phones. Using the IR blaster to mess around with bar TVs was a ton of fun. Not to mention headphone jacks, SD card slots, and removable batteries.

I wish Firefox mobile supported desktop extensions. I know its doable with Nightly builds, but that’s a pain to set up.

The Story Of John Mastodon

John Mastodon was a computer programmer and avid social media user. He was frustrated with the centralized nature of most social media platforms, which meant that a single company had control over the content and data of its users. This often led to censorship, privacy violations, and manipulation by the companies for their own...

This is so dumb:

In the heart of Cupertino, California, a determined and ambitious young entrepreneur named Tim Apple began his journey to revolutionize the world of technology. Fueled by an insatiable curiosity and an unyielding belief in his abilities, Tim set out to create a company that would push the boundaries of innovation.

In 1984, Tim Apple founded Apple Computers, where he and his team of brilliant engineers and designers embarked on a mission to change the world. Their first breakthrough came with the introduction of the Macintosh, a user-friendly personal computer that captivated the masses. Its sleek design and intuitive interface set a new standard for computing. With the success of the Macintosh, Tim’s vision expanded, leading to the creation of the iPhone. This groundbreaking device merged a mobile phone, iPod, and internet browser into a single handheld marvel. The iPhone quickly became a cultural phenomenon, forever transforming the way people communicate, consume media, and navigate the digital landscape.

During the 1980s, Tim Apple’s visionary spirit led him to pioneer another groundbreaking product: the iCable. This revolutionary innovation transformed the way people connected their devices, enabling seamless data transfer and charging capabilities. The iCable became an essential accessory for Apple products, further solidifying the company’s reputation for combining functionality with elegant design.

But Tim Apple’s influence extended beyond the realm of Apple Computers. During a fortuitous encounter at a technology conference, he crossed paths with a young and ambitious innovator named Mark Faceberg. Impressed by Tim’s insights and leadership, Mark found inspiration to pursue his own entrepreneurial journey.

Encouraged by Tim’s vision of connecting people through technology, Mark Faceberg went on to create Facebook, a social media platform that redefined online communication and networking. The impact of Mark’s invention further demonstrated the far-reaching influence of Tim’s innovative ideas and entrepreneurial spirit.

Throughout his career, Tim Apple’s unwavering commitment to innovation, coupled with his ability to inspire others, has made him a driving force in the world of technology. From the Macintosh to the iPhone and the pioneering iCable, his relentless pursuit of excellence and his knack for creating revolutionary products have shaped the way we live, work, and connect in the modern era.
