Canadian here, never heard this.

He’s a tech icon. I think this belongs here just fine.

Yes, that’s the frame in her right hand. Looks like carbon fiber.

As in assignments? Cause I’ve done all those long ago too.

I feel like I’m missing something stupid / obvious here.

Shadow,

Thanks, I think maybe cause I always swap the infected ones and have never looked that closely at them.

Pillows are pretty personal, you need to find what works for you. What really levelled up my pillow game, was a silk pillow case.

Electric blanket.

I feel like a grandparent on the couch but fuck it’s nice and cozy when I haven’t turned the heat on and I’m watching tv.

Shadow,

Why? Fire risk?

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

Interesting, I’ll see if I can feel one at a store.

Dalnet was the noob network, it was all about efnet

Shadow,

That’s how all hot water heaters work. His just uses natural gas instead of electricity.

This must be a regional thing. I’ve never heard of this. The sewers are still further down than my parents basement.

Do you have some sort of poop rated pump?

What VPN do you use and why?

If you are a pirate VPN is an essential tool. I am trying to ascertain the popularity of various VPNs in piracy community. In this excerise, I will list several Popular VPNs in the comment if you use one of them just upvote that comment and reply the reason. If you don’t find your VPN listed add a comment with just their name....

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

That’s because you’re in Canada. We don’t need to worry like Americans can. It’s not really necessary for us.

Mocking authority for me would be a red flag as it’s a sign of immaturity. The people in my life that do this are the ones that tend to be emotionally rash, and inability to control emotions is a huge red flag.

However not just submitting to authority and being confident enough to stand up to it while being respectful, that’s a green flag.

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

What do you gain from treating them with disrespect, other than escalation? Nobody likes being disrespected, regardless of whether or not they deserve / have earned that respect. By operating on a baseline of “give people the benefit of the doubt and treat them with respect by default” you open a world of constructive / logical discussion that would be closed if you were emotional.

To me, mocking someone is a person’s way of saying “I don’t have a well thought out argument against X, so I’ll just give it a nickname and talk shit about it”.

If you have to think of one person who is famous for mocking anyone / anything they don’t like, who would it be? For me, the first person that comes to mind is Trump. Is that someone who is worth modelling your behaviour after?

I hate clothes shopping so much (semi-rant)

I just hate how it’s the only retail space left that never bothers to organize things beyond men’s sections, women’s sections, and the dreaded kids’ section. I had to go shopping today to get long sleeve black shirts for my job (long story). All I needed were like 3 larges that were black. That’s it! But it took me...

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

For simple Tshirts I go for screen printing blanks. You probably know your size already and they’re $5-10 each online in a wide variety of colors.

Not sure your country but try searching for places that sell Bella+canvas. In Canada I buy from wordans.

It’s not that one, it’s a programming complexity one.

Costco

Shadow,

It’s been out like a week, do you even really know them yet?

Shadow,

Ignore the user counts you see. That’s only users on your local instance that are subbed to it, not all.

Just wanted a warning, Lemmy.World is perhaps worse than reddit at respecting their users (web.archive.org)

I just suddenly found my user over there banned. Not for getting in a fight or breaking any rules, but just for criticizing and asking questions regarding its recent vague Terms of Service. In fact, no reason, warning, or reply was given beforehand, and the admin who did it suddenly scaled to banned, with no reply or anything...

Let’s do some math together!

  • 6 lights rated at 42w each = 252w which I run for 10 hours a day, so we’re looking at 2100wh per day AKA 2.5kwh per day.
  • 2.5 kwh * 30 = 75kwh per month.
  • 75kwh * my residential rate of $0.0959 per kwh = $7.20 per month

Given they also make my office nice and bright when I’m working in here, that’s a reasonable cost in my mind.

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

Oof. Yeah I’d be seriously reevaluating my energy consumption at those prices.

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

Footage really shows how crazy close they are willing to get, that’s sketchy as fuck.

Any idea what Google are doing? Is this because I dont use Chrome (use Firefox)? I've no adblockers. (lemmy.world)

So this started coming up today. On every video. I can (so far) click the “x” and remove it to watch (still see 2 ads before the video, and one after 4 minutes - ruins music on YT), but did click the “Report issue” only for the dialogue box not to work....

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

I thought YouTube posters could choose if their video is monetized. Isn’t this kinda on the person who posted it?

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

If true, that’s kinda fucked.

VMs are good for scaling and resiliency to hardware failure, but they’re generally more expensive and with slower IO.

Hardware is the best bang for the buck if you’re not concerned about a few hours of downtime if the hardware fails.

Long term I could see us moving to container based hosting (k8s behind the scenes) like some other sites are doing.

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

Honestly, me too.

No I haven’t yet

This isn’t a setting, sounds like you might have a browser plugin doing something?

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

Try wiping all your cookies maybe.

Sounds like you’re loosing your session cookie, you can poke at it in developer console to confirm its there.

If your session token hasn’t changed and is still there but you’re logged out, may be a lemmy bug. I haven’t seen any other reports like this though.

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

Context for those of us that don’t?

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

Already done awhile ago I think. If you click on the instances link at the bottom of the page, you’ll see them at the bottom.

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

Also, “cutscene”. How out of date can they be?

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

“price firm, must have cash in hand”

Then just ignore anyone else and don’t bother replying.

GitHub - Asudox/LemmyCTTS: A program to convert Lemmy comments to a video (github.com)

I basically made this program to convert Lemmy comments to videos just like those Reddit videos on YouTube. I know that there are a few bugs here and there, I will fix them later. For now, the most obvious one is the transition effect video not showing up during transitions, only the audio does. There also might be issues when...
